Sunset Opals

We visited nearly all opal shops in town. By far this shop and owner was reasonable and interested in looking after us. Approachable, knowledgeable, good range and great prices. Must visit for anyone.

To the negative reviewers, behaviour determines behaviour, and ask the person before you whip out your camera to take a pic. Common courtesy

After reading the reviews, I thought this is somewhere we need to go, just to see how bad it really is. My wife and mum went in and absolutely enjoyed the experience. The lady was very helpful and compassionate.
My guess if you had trouble there, You might be only telling part of the story.
There is always 2 side's.

We visited Sunset Opals this week and were greeted warmly by the owner. She was knowledgeable and gracious in her dealings with us and was a pleasure to speak with. We certainly plan to visit Sunset Opals in Lightning Ridge again on our next trip.

This is the exactly type of shop you MUST see if you go to Lightning Ridge. The owner is a pioneer of the industry and has been in the opal industry for over 50 years! The extensive variety for all budgets is just one of the things that makes this shop awesome.💍

Walked into the shop (before reading the reviews!) because we were keen to visit all of the shops in Lightning Ridge. We stood for at least 5-10 minutes (it's a very small shop) waiting to request what we were looking for with no acknowledgement.

During that time, she was ranting to another customer about the problem with people, how there are no good opals anymore, how these 'people' are relying on the government to give them money... and by the time she got to talking about how fat they were that she couldn't understand how they could fit into clothing, I headed for the door.

I grabbed a coffee across the street and my ever-patient daughter said I should still see her opals even if she's a mean person. Okay, point taken.

I headed back and tried the door and the shopkeeper yelled at me that she was doing business and had locked the door. And that I didn't need to come in. Okay, cool.

Maybe she's your speed. Maybe she's just the right sort of wack-a-doodle that has amazing opals and is exactly the 'Lightning Ridge spirit'. I didn't get to find out what she had, alas.

The lady who owns this shop is poison. I entered the shop and admired her display with the full intention of a purchase. She was walking in and out of the shop whilst on speaker phone to her bank. The display was so vast and beautiful I pulled my phone out to take a photo - she YELLED at me, accusing me of stealing her designs (I was intended to take a photo of the pure opals only). When I attempted to apologise and protest her attitude, she started yelling at me to get out like a common dog. I have never experienced anything like this in all my life. There are absolutely no signs to request no photos - this is a very simple remedy if she feels so strongly. If she had actually been attending to me at all I would have asked to take a photo, but I was being ignored. Absolutely vile woman. Please patron the other local opal shops - they are lovely people who also report this woman is also a horrible person within the community too. Please consider who you support in this little community.

I wasn't interested in purchasing but entered the store to take a look.
When greeted by the woman out back I made my intentions clear and she proceeded to pull out her "discounted opals" just to show me.
After she attempted to pressure me to buy one, I again mentioned that I wasn't looking to purchase, but was just looking, and that she had some beautiful opals.
As I was leaving the store, she yelled at at me "you couldn't afford them anyway"

OMG - WHAT A NUTTER!!! Wish I could give a zero star rating. Customer service is not in the owners vocabulary. Walk into a dark & dingy shop with all the lights off. The owner came out from the back & turned the lights on. She then proceeded to talk to us like we were idiots. She was having a bad day because a previous customer upset her by saying "nothing grabs me" - this is apparently insulting and derogatory to both the owner and her work. I received a text message and I checked my phone- you would think I slapped her in the face. I proceeded to wish her a lovely day and left the shop. I have never in my life been treated so poorly by a business owner. I have a few opal purchases I wish to make before I leave Lightning Ridge and my money will certainly NOT be spent in this shop.

Very rude woman, she didn't like being asked for a certificate of authenticity which is pretty standard for precious gem jewellery. She carried on as if I accused her of passing off substandard jewellery and put the item back in the cabinet. I did buy it in the end but have doubts about it as the description she told me wasn't one that would bear inspection.

Very rude shop owner. I walk in with my friends and family and the lady who owns the shop turns on the lights for us. My friend pulls out her phone to quickly check the time and the lady tells her to put her phone away. My friend quickly puts away her phone and apologised. The shop keeper then accused my friend of spying and my friend is only 14. The lady then goes on saying that her mother (who was in the room), had raised her with no manners and we decided to leave.

Saw an opal animal I liked and asked how much, she told me it wasn't for sale. I asked if I could take a pic. She started abusing me calling me all the names under the sun, madly tapping my phone and trying to get it off me. All of this in front of my kids. Kept yelling "get out of my shop" etc. Completely unnecessary treat people like that, especially since I started putting my phone away when she said no. If you don't want people to take photos, put a sign up. If you have gemstones not for sale, put them in a separate cabinet away from sale ones. Never treat people like that ESPECIALLY in front of children. Absolutely disgusting

I wish I saw these reviews prior to entering this store. Rude lady. My husband asked a question and she belittled him. Very unpleasant.
We purchased amazing opals elsewhere.

An absolute disgrace this woman, I agree totally with all of the negarive reviews. So appaulingly rude to customers. Shut up shop and watch daytime TV and save us paying customers the pain.

Don't waste your time with this shop. The owner is so rude. My daughter and grandsons went in to look and received a mouth full of abuse. I then went in and ask why she told me to leave with lots of swear words. RUDE RUDE
