Had a lovely experience today with David. Bought a beautiful pair of earrings and a necklace for my daughter. Couldn't fault the service or shop in any way.

David is terrific, very helpful and as others have said, gives you space to look at his pieces without the hard sell like some other dealers. Very fair prices, from a great guy. We will be back. Thanks David, we enjoyed our chat today and look forward to working with the great rough parcels we came away with.

Regularly visit and purchase from this shop when in town. Don't feel pressured. Friendly staff. Easy to look at stuff. David is a nice bloke. One of the good shops in town. Make sure you take a look.

Fantastic service from David. Very helpful & nothing i asked or wanted to see was any trouble. Purchased stunning Cooper Pedy opal earrings as well as a couple of other pieces. Great gifts & souvenirs as well which made it easy to buy all my family something. Thankyou again David. Highly recommend to pop in 🙂👍

Friendly service and beautiful opals, especially the raw opals. They also have art supplies and other useful knick knacks such as fly nets for your hat (I purchased two)!

I cannot recommend Star Opal highly enough - all the staff were pleasant, polite and helpful, not at all pushy and more than happy to assist even if it didn't result in a sale. The item my wife loved didn't have the same effect when she tried it on - it was no problem, David accepted the decision. The knowledge and enthusiasm was also brilliant - we did end up purchasing a couple of items and thoroughly enjoyed the conversation with David too. The prices are very competitive and we felt we got a good deal.

The owner was very friendly and allowed me to look at many different opal pieces even outside of the shop. I would highly recommend this place, honest prices and good craftsmanship. Unlike some other places in the town, here you can have a look at the jewelry without the feeling of being judged or rushed.

An absolute must to go in to this shop.David is great and is more than happy to stand back and let you look in peace.We walked into quite a few shops but just felt like I was being pushed and watched with my every move.We walked into David’s shop and was so calm by being able to just look.Questions we’re answered and if we wanted to see things a bit closer it was no problem.Such a lovely man with a heart of gold.Bought a beautiful ring and a pair of earrings.Was an absolute pleasure to visit this shop highly recommended from us for sure.

Found a ring a loved but it was too small, only in town overnight, David got the ring resized for me within the hour 😊 . Really appreciated it. Great prices and great quality opals.

Edit* opal fell out of the ring around a month after I bought it…No real follow up or customer service post..very disappointed.

I would strongly recommend not to buy from this disreputable vendor. Opals imperfection could be hidden and no official tax receipt to get back Australian tax. a. Boulder opal we bought looked great and had a very small crack. When my wife washed it - two big white cracks appeared. We brought it to an expert and it looks like the cracks have been hidden using mineral oil. b. Owner/ salesman David despite assuring us that his receipt is an official tax receipt lied. It was the only receipt rejected by Australian Customs (TSR). Overall Coober Peddy is a great place to buy Opals but should stay away from Star Opals.
