BC's Bakery

This bakery is a good-old-fashioned one, serving everything I remember from my childhood. The Chocolate Log is my go to treat.
The service is always polite and the place is always clean.

I have been to BC's bakery quite a few times now. Yet it still leaves me in shock on how good the apple tea cake tastes. It is the best on the gold coast by far. Tastes like home. I will be sure to come here for years to come.

BC's is a delightful little family bakery outside a pretty shabby shopping centre in Ashmore on Cotlew. The staff are always friendly and make excellent pastries and cakes. It is nice to see them open again after fire damage from an adjoining tenancy. I was beginning to have withdrawals being restricted from their custard tarts.

They make the most exceptional custard and apple tarts in a small, chocolate lined, shell with a dollop of stewed apple under a generous mound of custard. The unique thing about them is, they don't use the typical packet mix sloppy set, tasteless, mush custard that pollutes most custard tarts from lazy unimaginative bakers. This one is a little bit creamy, with body and flavour.
Most bakers pour it into a shell where it barely equals level to the side. This filling is piped in and towers above the sides like a Great Pyramid. They are made with pride and intention to look amazing (and make you fat). They are placed in the window to be the first thing you see walking in, where they sit, fresh and begging you to buy.

I would always recommend two. The first one for consumption's sake so you can feel the volume and texture as it travels down your throat. A second for the connoisseur's sake so you can nibble the pastry to reveal the subtle chocolate lining that seals the shell so it doesn't become soggy from the apple, and slowly mouth away the tower of filling. Or if you are blessed with self control, be the connoisseur and just have one, but eat slowly to enjoy, if you can.

They are not oversized, nothing is overpriced, and you will notice their service with a big smile, especially from the shorter lady 🤭😁.

A great establishment that does amazing pies and pastries. Try the bee-sting if they haven't already flown off the shelf, you won't regret it.

Lovely local bakery, so few of them left that I really appreciate it. Thanks for all your hard work, there's always something for everyone.

Exceptional apple and custard bun. Best I've ever tasted. Tried to find an equivalent in nsw, but to no avail. Can't wait to visit Queensland and my daughter again and BC's bakery again.

Easily among the best sausage rolls in the Gold Coast. Must be one of the local best kept secrets. Flaky fresh pastry, melt in mouth goodness. We weren’t intending to buy anything we just couldn’t resist the aroma. Lovely service too.

Don’t be deceived by the innocuous appearance of this hidden gem of a bakery, certainly not if you love sausage rolls as I do. I almost walked right by but was lured in as if by Jedi mind-trick to try them out. The quality and flakiness of the pastry was second to none and the filling was also excellent. I have no doubt the rest of their selection is equally good, and I will happily be going out of my way to satisfy an out-of-the-blue sausage roll craving.

Best cream buns ever. REAL CREAM and Jam with fresh bun. Cannot drive past without stropping in. Asparagus Quiche is good also. Long time local business. been going there for over 20 years. YUM!

I consider myself a bakery aficionado. Many moons ago I was a field engineer and to offset the boredom of fixing endoscope re-processors I would seek out bakeries across Australia - alas, I was only acquainted with this one recently.

There are two key tests I would judge a baker on; How well do they do a standard white bread roll and caramel slice. When I saw the size of the slice it felt like Christmas all over again. A whopper! Firm base, not cheap chocolate icing, near perfect ratio of base:caramel:icing (~30%:65%:5%) that was well weighted in the palm. I usually don't struggle to get through these but this one was big (huge), and the richness of it...

If it was legal to marry a slice I'd be waiting in a tux at the alter.

Great to see the traditional cakes on the front table too. I swear the Madeira cake was eyeing me off - likely jealous I'm not willing to have an affair so soon after my marriage, yet.
