Blackwood Camp

Was there on a Sunday night, pretty much had the place to myself, toilets well maintained, and pleasant walks if you feel the need for exercise.

Brilliant camping spot. Toilet facilities with running water available too. The camping spots are set out brilliantly, some have neighbouring spots ideal for groups and others are secluded, great if you want privacy.

I remember when i was a kid i used to go to Blackwood camp with the school i enjoy it so much i miss it alot.

Our family had intended to stay for three nights, but we only stayed for two. Some of the campgrounds are spacious enough to provide privacy. It just takes a few minutes to walk to the lake, where there are crabs and fish.There were a lot of mosquitoes around the lake, also inlake we bitten by something .No shops around ,No drinking water ,there are fire pits

The campsites are great but don’t look directly into the river (20m of trees separate you most places). The ground is very hard if you’re setting up a tent. Great bathrooms available everywhere. There are about 100 numbered sites. Pay for your camping before you go because there’s no internet on most of the camps.

Great site set up with most having screening to neighbouring, and some arranged for larger groups.

Plenty of room to to reverse the camper.

In ground fire pit at each site, with post holes in surrounding concrete plinth. Some have the post and cook plate still there. The pits are cleared regularly by ranger!

Three seperate toilet blocks serve Blackwood so the kids don’t have to walk very far when in a rush. Typically alright, but given its so close and convenient to Melbourne, you may experience the consequences of people who are not familiar with basic camp ground etiquette and hygiene.

Sites on creek side of main circuit road can have their own private entry to the creek, whilst the road side (west) sites can cop the dust when vehicles rush through Murrindindi Rd.

Limited mobile reception. You will get some at the front information hut for the Scenic Reserve where the large toilet block is.

Creek is beautiful just to sit in, water will come up waist deep, and let it rush by.

The campground fills up quickly over the weekend. If it’s a long weekend people will come earlier in the week to ‘reserve’ spaces. Rangers try to police this and will collect what they think appears to the unwanted camp gear and put it one side 🙂

Yea is in reasonably close proximity and can dash up there to have dinner if you don’t want to cook dinner or get fresh supplies.

If full, quick driving south to the other series of camp grounds.

What else do we need if there is clean toilets with flush and running water at a camping spot!

Good spot for camping, small nightly fees that can be paid when you arrive (cash only) seems like a good spot for families, plenty of spots to camp with their own fire pits. Well maintained flushable toilets. Pleanty of wildlife although look out for snakes.
