Mao Sapa Trekking and Homestay

I absolutely couldn't recommend this highly enough. A truly unforgettable experience. Mama Mao and the whole family are incredibly welcoming, set in stunning landscapes with breathtaking walks. Our guide Su was so fantastic. The people you meet, the food you eat, the 'Happy Water' (Rice Wine) you drink - it's all brilliant.

Gorgeous surroundings and amazing hospitality! Booked 2 nights with Mama Mao and felt like it was the best choice for trekking in Sapa. Mama Mao's family are really nice (and very eager to share their happy water - beware!) and the food cooked was excellent. They were very accomodation of dietary needs, and were always happy to help! We had the absolute best time staying here. Our guide Mu was so sweet and took great care of us trekking for three days. Mao was the best host and we had so much fun with her and her family. From cooking us a nice dinner to teaching us happy water drinking games, we truly had the best time. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. Highly recommend staying two nights or longer. Already looking forward to going back again :)))

An amazing experience. Our guide was Do (pronounced “Zo”), Mama Mao’s daughter in law. She was incredibly funny, outgoing, and knowledgeable and her energy brought the whole group together. The rooms are private and clean and the house has good showers. The food they cook you is excellent and they are generous with the happy water (rice wine). The family is of the black Hmong people and they will happily share about their culture. The views and landscapes are breathtaking. It’s a precious opportunity to get a glimpse at how people live in this corner of the world. Definitely go (and tread lightly as the locals in this quiet village are just trying to live their lives). The highlight of my Vietnam trip so far!

We stayed here after a day of trekking the Sa Pa countryside with the daughter in law, Do. She was a really excellent guide and host. She was really humorous and told us so much about the Hmong people and their way of life. The homestay was spacious and clean and the food served was great. Lots of happy water also on offer whether you liked it or no!(iykyk) highly recommend staying here and getting the tour!

Mama Mao is one of the best persons I've ever met. She is funny, always with a smile on the face, talking and laughing and answering every single question you might ask, now matter how controversial it can be. Pretty smart as she can repit every word you say in your hometown language and learn it.
Big and comfortable house, with loads of rooms. The whole family is helping to make you feel one more of the group. Highly recommended!!!!

One of the most authentic experiences in Vietnam. This cosy place is located near sapa town surrounded by rice fields. Rooms are clean and nice. People there are super friendly and the level of their hospitality is absolutely above you can expect. Everything they serve is from their own land. Absolutely amazing food! Just don’t forget ask for happy water 😂

Mama Mao and her family are amazing. The most incredibly friendly and fun people. They made the trekking so much fun. Special thanks to Zo for being the best trekking guide.

I stayed with Mama Mao in the winter of 2017 and I remember it fondly! Back then she was building this new house do I'm very excited to see that this has all worked out for her and her family. I cannot vouch for this place unfortunately but I can only recommend staying with Mao! Her good mood and happiness is contagious! She was a great host to me and she knows the area like the back of her hand. If you want your stay in Sa Pa to have a real impact, do not look any further.

The homestay here was excellent. The host was very friendly and helpful. They accommodation was cosy and the bathrooms were in excellent condition. Food was good and we even had a little karaoke session in the night. Overall very good place to stay at.

This homestay among farms and the mountains give an authentic Vietnamese homestay.
Most meals are cooked from local produce some gathered during treks in the day and other food provided from the home garden.
Plenty of hot water good water pressure in showers and well set up to cater for many guests at once.
Family are around throughout the day and treks are as hard or easy as you like with guides who have grown up in the village, they seem to know every blade of grass.

Oh my the love we felt in this place was amazing! Beautiful homestay in the middle of the mountains. But the company made this stay one of the best in Vietnams. Mama Mao and her family is so sweet and generous. Great food, great rice wine ;), great hiking tour and guide. If you’re in Vietnam, go see them.

I loved everything about my stay here. Everyone was very kind and they prepared amazing food for us. There are three bathrooms and two showers with heating. If you are a raw traveller like myself, you would consider this more of a hotel than a homestay, as I would have expected to sleep on a mattress on the floor in a massive room. Instead here they have proper and very comfy beds.
Chinh, our guide, was amazing. Can only recommend this stay and would totally be going back

Waking up in the middle of paddy fields by roosters is fantastic. Mao family is exceptionally warm...clean rooms and bathrooms..dinner and breakfast is simple, yummy and sufficient

Amazing homestay with lovely people. They hospotality realy exceeded my expectations. They also made for us delicious breakfast pancakes and big tasty dinner. I highly recommend this place

The homestay was unique and very traditional m. All the ladies who work us a tour guide and run the house, they do a fabulous job. There food was a lot but very homemade delicious food, ohh and I’ll never forget the “happy water and happy tea”.

It’s an excellent experience to stay with the locals. With breathtaking view and nice people! Feeling refreshing after hoursss of trekking. However, plastics are being used a lot, hopefully there will a solution for reducing the use of plastics in the nature.

The people here are so nice and happy, always making jokes, welcoming and sweet. The food is delicious. The bedrooms are authentic, clean and really ok for Westerners. The landscape is breathtaking. I lived my stay here.

Mama Mao and mama Lynh are warm, funny and welcoming, the rest of the stuff at the homestay are absolutely amazing. We had a great experience.
