Exploring the Hue Historic Citadel was an unforgettable journey back in time. The sprawling complex, with its majestic palaces, grand temples, and imposing walls, offers a vivid glimpse into Vietnam's royal past. The intricate details and the serene gardens within the citadel provided a peaceful respite from the bustling city. It's a testament to the cultural richness and architectural prowess of the Nguyen Dynasty. A visit here is essential for anyone looking to immerse themselves in Vietnam's history and heritage.

Loved this place. Highly recommend.

You could spend hours exploring all the different monuments and buildings. Was a great place for our kids as they loved exploring all the different buildings and nooks and crannies.

Amazingly well kept gardens that were very picturesque. There are so many places here to take amazing photos!

Very extensive set of well restored temples and royal government buildings. Good interpretive panels in Vietnamese, French, and English. Pretty remarkable given the damage incurred during the French & American wars!

Beautiful palace. They really fixed it up nice comparing when I was here ten years ago. A lot of walking so bring your walking shoes. You can buy a day pass or buy one with combinations with three tombs. A must see when visiting Hue.

I really enjoyed the Royal lake and the gardens. Lots of wonderful bonsai here as well. I spent a little over 2 hours here on a Monday afternoon - was very peaceful and serene walking around, especially near the back away from the main entrance.

Stunningly quiet, large ancient palace. Great easy walks around the grounds and visits to several temples dedicated to the nine dynastic emperors. Evidence of the Vietnam war is fairly minimal and the beauty of the gardens is complemented by the bonsai garden

I had the pleasure of visiting the Citadel of Hue recently and was utterly amazed at what I found. The vast grounds provide plenty to explore, from ancient ruins to lush gardens. Not only is it a great way to spend a couple of hours but also provides beautiful photo motifs for those looking for that perfect shot. It's easy to get lost in all the history within its walls; whether you want peace and tranquility or an adventure, this is definitely one destination worth seeing! All in all, I highly recommend visiting this amazing site - you won't be disappointed!

Beautiful place. Plan to explore this place atleast for two hours. The views were extremely beautiful as it was December and we could green around the buildings.

Do take the map at the ticket counter, or you might as well have goggle moaa to navigate yourself inside the citadel.

The open timings says open till 5pm in winter. This is the closing time so ensure to be out of the citadel by this time

Plenty of parking vehicles once you cross over the bridge. Came here only inside the court yard and didn't buy a ticket. You can see lots of people taking pictures outside. Lots of freelance cameramen also willing to take pictures of you and provide prints or send it through phone for a fee, make sure you dont settle with the first person as prices may vary. They also seem to stand around their own area. Great place to take pictures inside the courtyard.

110% recommend that you visit the Citadel whilst in Vietnam. Worth a detour. For 200,000 VD (£6.50) you get a 3 hour experience of superb Vietnamese history. Huge site 2km x 2km. NOTE this pin is not in the centre of the Citadel - entry via pin at Meridian Gate. Also see pin Dai Noi.
Emperors, palaces, beautiful Indochinese architecture and gardens, plus modern warfare history. It literally ticks all the boxes. The admission fee goes towards ongoing restoration works and is absolutely worth it!
Take the audio tour or just use the many QR codes around the site to avoid having to join one of the standard tours. Look out for the bullet holes in the walls!
3 blocks of toilets over the site and a couple of places for a tasty beverage and snack.

It is the place you should be visiting if you are ever in Hue! I have been here twice, once when I was 8, and now. Lots of things to explore and learn about inside the palace.
The ticket was 420k total ( if I'm not wrong) for the Palace and Two Tombs.

We had a group tour from Da Nang to her ( 870.000 Vietnam Dong). It took almost 2 hours to arrive. It is a nice place where you can get an idea about the history of Vietnam.Very nice gardens. Most of the buildings have been destroyed during the war. The restoration process is going on.

The Hue Citadel is a must-see for anyone visiting Hue, Vietnam. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important historical landmarks in the country. The citadel is a sprawling complex of palaces, temples, gardens, and other structures, all surrounded by a massive wall.

I was particularly impressed by the scale and grandeur of the citadel. It is clear that the Nguyen Dynasty, which ruled Vietnam at that time, invested a great deal of time and resources into building and maintaining this impressive complex.

Some of the highlights of the citadel include:

- The Ngo Mon Gate, also known as the Meridian Gate, is the main entrance to the citadel. It is a massive gate with five arches, each of which represents a different social class.
- The Thai Hoa Palace was the throne room of the Nguyen emperors. It is a large and impressive building with a golden roof and intricate carvings.
- The Imperial Garden is a beautiful garden with a variety of flowers, trees, and ponds. It is a great place to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

Tips for visiting:

1. The citadel is a large complex, so it is best to wear comfortable shoes and clothing.
Bring a hat and sunscreen, as it can get quite hot in the sun.
2. There are several restaurants and cafes inside the citadel, but it is also a good idea to bring your own snacks and drinks.
3. There are English-speaking tour guides available, which can be helpful for learning more about the history of the citadel.
4. Allow at least 3-4 hours to visit the entire citadel.

Nice place to walk around get lost and discover old historical buildings. Renovations are still going on so the buildings are in different conditions, some slightly falling apart while others busting with color. Food options inside are very limited and extremely overpriced. We had banana bread for 95000 and ramen noodles from a pot, so better come well fed.

This place is massive, and I suggest you leave around 2-3 hours for it. We bought a Citadel + two tombs package for 420,000 VND. The guide cost 150,000 VND at the entrance, if you decided to get one. We opted for an audio guide, which was 100,000 VND. It came with a map with 3 different routes, with lengths ranging from 120 minutes to a full day. We did the full day route (orange colour), but we didn’t listen to or read through everything, and it took us around 3 hours to go through the Citadel. In hindsight, I think it may have been better to get an actual guide. I would recommend the Citadel to anyone visiting Hue, but just make sure not to go on a super hot or rainy day.

A good 3-4 hours walk around a fortress, what's not to love?
Some amazing photography opportunities. And some little places people dont really go to see, theyre the best bits.
Theres audio tours, and also some combo packages that include visiting the tombs.
