Safeway

Safeway carries fine and fresh ingredients to help put together top notch meals from breakfast to dinner and in between and is one of my go to shopping for all things fresh. All shopping no matter where can be stressful today but these stores continue to try and make the shopping experience better though no place is completely perfect.

This store is huge! What an amazing selection of everything you need, for a great an affordable price.

So many options for dietary restrictions - you can find excellent alternatives to dairy, gluten and vegan preferences. I was shocked at how many types of cauliflower and cassava root chips they have available for healthier snacking options.

Excellent variety of meat raised with no antibodies. You can find a hundred types of eggs, if you prefer cage-free, vegetarian fed, or if you don’t give a damn about where your eggs come from. There are so many choices.

Large in-house bakery and bulk food section. They also have an in-house pharmacy.

Easy to see from the street.

One of the two largest Safeway's in the county. They have everything you'd expect from a large chain grocer and a huge middle section of the store with everything from gift wrap to books to office and school supplies. Huge magazine selection, 3-5 times larger than most stores.

My cashier Catherine on feb 5th, 2024! Was amazing and helpful! She helped us check out quickly and was very nice!

I just want to give a shout-out to the bakery department at the Capitola Safeway on 41st Ave. Many times I would get bagels there, but every once in a while I'd get a moldy taste from the sesame seed bagels. (Never had that with any of the others.) I guessed it was coming from the sesame seeds themselves, rather than the dough. So I wrote them and brought up the issue. They took action immediately: they wrote back and told me they dumped out the sesame seeds and refreshed their stock. Then the manager gave me a fresh batch of sesame seed bagels on the house. Yep... they were fresh-tasting and yummy!

So I just wanted to say thanks for the great customer service. I also want to complement the bakery department: I love their French baguettes and sourdoughs. They make a pretty mean croissant and apple turnover too. And yep, the bagels are great: just the right balance of crunchiness and chewiness -- like a fine French bread but a little more "muscular". It's a neat trick to turn out a good bagel, and these guys know how to do it. Kudos!

Use this Safeway the most of all stores. It is the larger store, over the Morrissey store. Much better selections.

This Safeway is one of the chains newer larger stores, has inside flower & plants, greeting cards, butcher shop, deli, bakery, Safeway Pharmacy, small version Starbucks and public restrooms.

The center has a Safeway Gas Station ⛽.

Most of the time, there is plenty of parking, to include Handicap blue zone spaces. As of late, during peak shopping 🛒 times, it has become issue finding close parking.

Added note for Starbucks fans, if your not a fan of the small version Starbucks, the complex has a full size Starbucks just on the other side of the parking lot from Safeway.

This particular Safeway is not the closest to my home, but I prefer it to the nearer one. Why? 1: clean. There are folks going around actively sanitizing and dusting all the time. 2: Efficient. Although large, it is well laid out for efficiency. Very well stocked, so you dont need to stop somewhere else to get that odd item.

I want to compliment and thank the produce department based on the incredible quality. For example, over the last couple months I have been getting perfect bags of grapes that are crisp and sweet without a single bad grape in the bag. It is kind of astonishing to me.... not a single bad grape in months now. Great job girls and guys!

Since the remodel several years ago this is one of the largest stores that has all the products Safeway offers. They recently redid their self check out so there's many more registers.

Safeway is a Wonderfully clean and beautiful store. The selves are always stocked and have a great variety of cans and light packages. Lots of fruits and vegetables. Both dairy and fruit juices nicely bottled. Very helpful store service people. A treat to visit when home supplies are low. No need to go anywhere else. I am a happy customer. Thank you. Safeway.

Let me start by saying this Safeway is one of the biggest in town. It has a huge selection of tons of food items, and it has a small food-court style area where you can get Jamba Juice and Starbucks. They have a seating area for when you are finished with your checkout, in case you want to snack on what you just bought or if you're just in the mood to look out the window and sit down. There is a great selection of food, I have not been disappointed yet. The staff here are very nice, they have frequently started conversations with me and they are always helpful when you can't find something. The food is always fresh and the cashiers are usually very nice and quick. Overall a great place to shop for food.

First of all, I'd just like to say that ALL employees working during this pandemic are going above and beyond just by being there.
But today I'd like to acknowledge the excellent customer service of a particular employee. I regret not having caught his name. He's of short stature and probably aged 40-50 years of age. He was doing cleanup work in the cold beverage aisle at around 11:30 am today (April 29, 2020). He helped me find lip balm. He was incredibly kind, conscientious and had the warmest, sweetest demeanor. I hope management of this store sees this and passes on my deepest gratitude. Outstanding professionalism!

This is a very good safeway as far as Safeways go. It's big and they have everything. They also have a bakery with fresh donuts and other stuff and in the corner they have a section where they put the day old bread and cakes which are often sold just on the expiration date and still very good at half price. They also have a gas station with good gas prices so overall it's a darn good Safeway.

This Safeway is far more better then Westside Safeway .. has so much more choices, very clean, wide isles and better parking...

Large variety of products, fresh and high-quality produce, great bargains with Safeway card. Only complaint is that the sandwich counter is often slow, typically because the person making the sandwiches is inexperienced. Other than that, it's my primary grocery store and has the best prices in the area.

The 41st Avenue Safeway is our favorite grocery store in the Santa Cruz area. While it tends to be pricey, it almost always has the items we're looking for. I have not had good experiences with the pharmacy at this store, but that was a few years ago, so maybe that department has improved. (The pharmacy at the Aptos Safeway is outstanding, though.)

It has almost everything you need. The staff is friendly and informative. Plus they help maintain your bike even after purchase. Check them out! They are amazing! They have electric bikes to.

It's a very clean store, the restrooms 🚻 are very well stocked and clean, the store is very well stocked, and all the employees are nice and answer your questions when asked or if you need help they're help you find what you can't find.
