Established in 2007, The Gelateria Coffee Company stands as a fixture of South Grand. There is a neighborhood camaraderie feel in this spot.

This is a coffee spot, a snack spot and a gelato spot. Psssttt. The salted caramel crunch! You’re welcome!

The Gelateria sees everyone – be it a work meeting, a study group, a before work coffee, or, like me, just stopping in for my gelato dessert.

The Gelateria proved to be a bit of a pleasant surprise to me when I moved to the neighborhood. Read the other reviews for talk about ambiance or coffee or pastries or whatever. I'm here to talk sandwiches. I'm an insufferable sandwich snob and was pretty taken aback when someone in the industry told me that this place right down the road from me had the best breakfast sandwich in STL. Then someone else told me their lunch sandwiches were just as good.

Sidebar: Can I can make a plea to this local treasure? Tell people you sell sandwiches! Yes, I know you post them on your Instagram sometimes, but your website says literally *nothing* about sandwiches. Let the entire internet know!

Anyway, it's true, the breakfast sandwich is legitimately very good. I'm not sure I'd go literal best in the city, but worth your time and money for sure. Add bacon and spinach. The lunch sandwiches I actually like even more -- they're served on an excellent crusty focaccia and manage to be interesting while also being simple and elegant. For example, the roast beef combines medium-rare roast beef, two sauces (salsas rossa and verde), and arugala -- that's it. Really, really good without needing gimmicks. The menu seems to shift periodically and, again, you can't check their sandwich menu online, so you'll just need to read the board when you walk in. Lots of non-meat options.

Some sandwich caveats: They come out a bit slow, which is fine, but makes dropping in for a quick takeaway sandwich a 10-20 minute errand depending on the line. (No online ordering, unfortunately.) They're also not budget sammies -- the lunch offerings are $13+tax, plus a couple bucks if you want chips. I think they're worth it, but if you're hunting for a utilitarian and cost-efficient sandwich, you are barking up the wrong tree.

Overall, a worthy addition to my list of my very favorite sandwich places in town. Worth a trip, especially if you have the time to sit inside with your meal and enjoy the slow-paced coffee shop vibes.

I loved this place! Service is really good, everyone is kind and eager to take your order. I got a cortado and as an exigent coffee lover I must say it was quite good. The ambient was cozy and relaxed, definetely will be back. Great prices too.

They have awesome Gelato. And great place to work remotely or read or study. They have a beautiful backyard courtyard with a fountain and gorgeous plants and foliage and blue mosaic tables. And there is additional quiet workspace upstairs, lots of nooks. And the first floor has cool bookshelves and working spaces. They also have snacks.

Absolutely fantastic coffee shop, my favorite in the local area. Gelato options are varied, but not so many that it's hard to choose. While the coffee is great, the staff there are impeccable. I've really enjoyed talking to them while they do their craft.

I would not stop if I was in a major rush as they can get pretty backed up, but if I'm in the area I try to make time.

The affogato is particularly worth it!

Hot, dirty chai was a real treat on the rare not-so-hot August morning. It was full-bodied and spicy. Not sweet, which was perfect to jump start the day and not feel sluggish (so ask for/add some honey if you’re into a sweet drink). Great atmosphere where neighbors, business-folk and even brand-new babies gather and enjoy.

Great, cozy atmosphere. I’m very picky when it comes to espresso, but theirs was very very good! Awesome ice cream flavors too!!! Love it

Under new ownership since 2022. The house-roasted espresso was fantastic as an affogato (poured over gingerbread gelato), and I'm very picky about coffee.

They have some single origin pour overs that I haven't tried.

They also serve a few simple cocktails. The vermouth and soda was great.

Relaxed atmosphere with moderate volume bluesy music and lots of space, including upstairs. It's warm even on cold days.

Love this place! The moment you open the door, the amazing smell of coffee greats you. The atmosphere is also very cozy and calming. Their gelato is amazing. I love that they have non dairy oat milk options for gelato. I especially loved the chia flavor I had once, I have never had the chance to find it again. My go-to is an affogato. I wish they had more locations, specifically in West County. I'd definitely be a daily customer if they did.

First time trying this place out after scoping it for a while, and I was not disappointed! Got an iced lavender latte which was nothing short of AMAZING, as well as a pistachio roll equally as tasty. The fresh baked, fluffy texture of the roll was perfect. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, with an upstairs study area, lower level commons, and a beautiful botanical patio out back. I was helped by Ian who was also very friendly and pleasant to chat with! Will definitely be back here

I’ve been coming here since it was known as Gelateria Del Leone. This place and Clementines are the two best places for a frozen sweet treat in the whole city. The staff couldn’t be more friendly and helpful. My personal favorite flavor is the dairy version of London Fog, not to be confused with the oat milk version. The dairy variety is far superb. It’s inspired by the tea drink of the same name which is an Earl Grey latte. The bergamot note pairs absolutely splendiferously with the creamy gelato.

One of my top places on Grand -- and in the city. The gelato is luscious, the baked good sublime, and the coffee (my coffee-drinking friends tell me) is primo too. The decor is so very warm and inviting and the service is good. Draws a hip crowd in the South Grand tradition.

I visited this place tonight after having driven past it many times. I stopped tonight and was glad I did. They have two cases of gelato. One had gelato ice creams in it and the other had fruity flavors similar to sherbet. You can sample the flavors that you'd like to try as well. The gelato cups come in small, medium, large and an extra large size. They also sell various kinds of coffees and teas. I'm not a big coffee fan, but they had flavors that had me questioning if I would try some at some point. There was ample seating from the front to the back of the store. There were even built in book cases with books and games throughout the establishment. There was a small section to get free glasses of water which was nice. The prices weren't too high considering the great tasting gelato. I had a vanilla gelato topped with dark chocolate and it was very tasty. It tasted so fresh and light. I loved it. Entering the establishment there is one step up to enter the doors. I was told that there was a back door where customers could enter that was also wheelchair accessible. I didn't go look, but please call the establishment before going if you're wanting confirmation of this place being wheelchair accessible. Their was soulful music playing across the speakers. Overall, this was an awesome place to enjoy some fresh tasting gelato. Definitely check it out if you can. You won't be disappointed.

I just finished my last bite of the salad here, consisting of farro, beet, apple, tricolore lettuce, fennel, gorgonzola vinaigrette and hazelnuts. I think this was the best salad I've ever had. The ingredients are fresh and delicious and it was premixed perfectly before getting piled into my bowl. So delicious!!

Delicious coffee and baked goods. The workers here are kind and the atmosphere on the back patio can't be beat. I always have a great time here.
