I was accused of shoplifting today at Deb and Co in the Jasper mall today by a woman named Windy, who clearly got her daddy to follow me out of the store. Then “it appears”her daddy started telling mall workers about it.
My kids and I went in because I was looking for a sweater for myself. I was let into the locked dressing room by another employee (who made no effort to check the dressing room before letting me in) to try on a sweater, it didn’t fit correctly so I put it back where I found it. After putting it back, I stayed in the store for a bit longer looking at the Christmas decorations the store has marked down. In fact, I picked one up and a few others fell, causing a loud sound and me awkwardly trying to put stuff back. There was no way to not notice that happening. They had to have seen me. My kids and I walked out of Deb and Co and walked down to Bath and Body Works. After being there for a moment, I noticed Wendy’s father talking to an employee of Bath and Bodyworks, I turn my head and there’s Wendy. She told me there was an empty hanger in the dressing room I used and they “couldn’t find” the sweater I’d tried on. She asked if I’d show her where I put it. My kids and I walked back down to Deb and Co with her, I showed her where I put it(exactly where I found it). She said “o, thank you”. She never apologized! After that I was walking from Deb and Co towards bath and body works, also towards the door to leave. I see Wendy’s father walk up to a mall worker (he had a broom and a mall shirt on) and start talking. He was obviously talking about me. Because he was pointing towards deb and co and then bath and body works, he looked up and saw me looking at him, his facial expression said it all, he looks at the man sweeping and says something(looked like there she is or something along those lines), that man looks up at me and quickly looks away. (We all know how people act when trying not to be obvious when talking about someone) So I walked over and told him that the sweater was placed back where I found it. He replied, “yes mam”, no apology! So my take away is, the employee(s) at Deb and Co, ask their daddies to follow customers, because they did not do a good job of keeping an eye on stores dressing rooms(like checking them for hangers), or they would have known about the hanger. Then their daddies tell other mall employees about an innocent woman who they accused of stealing. I wonder if they went back and told all the people that I stole something that they where wrong. Now I (probably) have an employee at bath and body works who knows they accused me and a mall worker. After seeing him walk up to the mall worker and telling him about it, it’s a fair idea to think other people at other mall shops where told as well.
Adding, the woman told me her name was Windy. I call the older man her dad because I heard her call him daddy while I was shopping.
Dose this store have security cameras? Wouldn’t it be better to check the cameras before following someone out of the store? Had they checked, they would have seen me put the sweater back. I welcome the owner to contact me. I have no clue how to get in contact with her/him. If I’m not mistaken, the lady who owns it used to always help me. She was very nice. I used to buy back to school backpacks and lunch boxes from this store. Even when we moved to the other side of the state for a few years, I bought stuff when we came home.
Edited to add, I am being told it was the store owner and his daughter that acted this way. (I’m not 100% certain of this, just what I am being told).
