Walt's Hobby & Model Shop

Brought my 3 yr old in to Walt’s Hobby Shop today for the first time. It was a great experience! I brought in my late father’s Lionel engine and they were reassuring they could get it running again. Both gentlemen working were very kind and helpful. Super cool they had a large G gauge train running overhead and an HO running in the back. My son didn’t want to leave and we look forward to our return visit.

This is a nice hobby shop. Staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. They know where everything is. Do not hesitate to ask. Store reminds me of hobby stores that I went to as a kid. I hope maybe in the future they might have a closeout or sale section. I don't know how my parents afforded to buy me these things when I was a kid and somethings never change. A sale section or closeout section would be nice. Amazing array of engines. Nice line of kites rockets and models too.

They have a great selection of models, trains, remote control vehicles and all of the paints and accessories to go with them. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. It's a great place!

My son has started to get into trains and we wanted something to put out for the holiday season that he could play with or maybe put around the Christmas tree. We found a few Christmas-themed trains at big box stores, but they were all cheap and kept falling off the tracks. It was driving me nuts and making him very upset, so I decided to look at a real train set. I went into Walt's to see what was available and I was overwhelmed by their immense selection. Thankfully, the employee who was there was incredibly knowledgeable and I was given so much information about the different scales, brands, and all the possibilities of adding on to a set later. My son picked out a set and he couldn't be happier with it. What started as something seasonal might have become a new hobby, and we have the perfect place to go to add on to our set!

What a great selection of model railroad everything. Large hobby shop with a knowledgeable staff that has helped me rekindle my love of the hobby. Helpful with every project I am working on with great service and selection. The display of high power rockets is really cool as well. Full service hobby shop.

This is a great little Hobbie shop. People are super super nice and honest. I brought in an old lionel train in hope they could fix it.. and instead of saying yes and charging me an arm and leg. They said it is something they would want to tackle. The potential to do more harm was to great. Instead they showed me the train can still work. They oiled it up checked the transformer. Realy recommend this play for train stuff. Models and all kids of hobby needs

I'm 45 and this is a hobby shop like the ones I grew up with. The staff is very helpful and knowledge able. The selection of different hobbies are endless. I can go on forever of the quality accessories available for each project. Also this is a Mom and Pop shop not a box store. A good price for a great product with the proper information.

The people who were there were very helpful I was looking for a wheelie bar for my bandit 2wd but I had grabbed the wrong one for another type of Rc car model of the bandit they helped me find it.10/10 service!

Everything you could ever need here. I got my Athearn locomotive repaired here fairly quickly and at a good price. Highly recommend.

Solid paint supply selection, awesome Gundam and other modern model genres with a small selection of R/C to keep your attention. The true gem here is the amount of Train everything! Just go. Best hour spent buying a gift certificate ever.

Ive been coming to Walts for the past year. Im a Gundam model builder so this review focuses mostly on that.

Theres two aisles of gunpla here. None of it organized...which i honestly find to be the charm. Its a surprise each time to see whats there. When you find something you want its like fonding treasure. Ive found new kits and older ones, including some hard to find ones.

The prices are very reasonable and in many cases only a dollar or two over what you'd find at an online retailer. This more than makes up for shipping costs with the addition of supporting a local business.

Their paint selection is on par with most online retailers with full lines of Tamiya, Alclad, Mission Models, and Vallejo.

If youre in the area definitely stop by.

Great experience. Staff kinda rough around the edges, but really nice and treats customers well. I hope to shop again soon for RC parts for my new car.

Perhaps the best hobby shop in the Chicagoland area. Wide (and vast) variety of plastic models (military, automotive, aircraft), trains, and RC. Lots of paints and supplies as well. Something for every skill level.
