Out on a Whimsey Toys

I love the selection at the store, and I see all the reviews about rude owners etc etc, and I've never felt like my daughter couldn't touch things...

I see that there are some new associates there and it'd be great to get a gentle suggestion of toys etc sometimes (not like I NEED it, but sometimes buying gifts it's hard to know what's in for that age). The game selection is great here as well! I have found a number of family games here that I couldn't at the other local game store.

I would definitely recommend, will absolutely be back.

Great children’s toy store with very friendly employees. One employee in particular was incredibly nice and funny, I think he may have been the owner. They also had a box in the front labels “Free”, I inquired about it and sure enough they were giving away some brand new toys for free. The store is nice and has a large variety for its size. If you have children 2-12, I think they will surely enjoy coming.

One of the best shops in Maine! Tons of fun to poke around. Fantastic selection, great customer service. What ever you can imagine they probably have it!

Cute shop, very nostalgic. Staff was super friendly. Only down side was it was all incredibly expensive.

Fun toy store with "all the good toys" we've come to expect from small, independent toy stores. It had all the stuffies a child could want, fun inexpensive trinkets to satisfy all the kids, and larger more gift worthy items. A nice game selection as well for kids of all ages. My one complaint was the customer service. The woman running the register was not friendly and interacting with her has left quite a bad taste in my mouth. But their stock is fantastic should you need a gift.

My friend wanted to go in so I did also. I walked to the back and sure I saw a bathroom so I used it. Mind you I'm 63 and had to go. He didn't find anything that tricked his trigger ,but on the way out the lady said thanks for coming to use the bathroom 🙄 oh my gosh how rude!

I never leave negative reviews, especially for small locally owned shops but the owner of this particular shop traumatized my children by yelling at them the entire time we were there and putting her hands on my daughter several times even after I asked her not too.

As soon as we entered the shop she immediately starting following us around the store and reprimanding my child for touching a stuffed animal, taking a packet of markers from the shelf to look at them, and for wanting to wind up a music box to hear what song it would play. I was so flustered by her anger, I didn’t know what to do. I had to take my youngest daughter to the restroom and when I came out she was holding my six year old daughters wrists, restraining her. I asked what the problem was and she angrily told me my daughter had taken a music box from a bottom shelf and had set down on the floor to play with it. The owner was screaming that the floor was dirty and my daughter should know better. To be fair, the floor was filthy but it was no reason to restrain a six year old and reprimand them to the point of tears. My three year old was playing with a broken music box (the hinge was broken but it still played music). It was being used as a display and clearly had been for quite some time. I stepped to the counter to try and check out as quickly as possible but then the owner started SCREAMING at my three year old. Mind you, all of my children were in my eyesight and doing nothing wrong. She then told me I needed to pay for the broken item or she would call the police. I thought she was joking, but she was not. I was appalled and my 10 year old son then began crying since this monster was threatening to call the police on us over a tattered display toy. I promptly gathered my three crying children (who had been complimented for their behavior at previous stores we had visited) and we left. I called to see if that was a store employee or the owner and it turns out is was the owner and she began screaming that she was going to send the police to my house.

I would not bring children into this store. The owner is horrendous and abusive. I wouldn’t even give this experience one star but I had no choice. Do not support this business.
