I’m so glad we stopped here. I am also glad we did it on our last day of vacation. This little brew house is amazing. Run by real Friars that cook and tend the bar. My humongous lobster roll was a full pound of lobster. I have to say it was the best lobster roll I’ve ever had. It was also the first time I left a table for lobster and was truly full. The Mac and cheese dishes were delicious as well. I can’t wait to visit again next trip.

Amazing food! Great beer 🍺
The portions were incredibly large. We will definitely go again as there are so many items on the menu we’d like to try.

Had a short wait, but it was well worth it. We sat at the back corner table with a view of the water and a nice breeze. The hot shrimp dip was so amazing it had whole shimps, not just pieces of shrimp. I had the Tourtiere du Vieux- Quebec and my husband had the Baguette Banh Mi. Both were excellent. The portions were large and we had even had leftovers. We also got a nice serving of blueberry cobbler to go. The service was great and prices are reasonable. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

Amazing food, you get a lot of food that is prepared by the local friars. They also have an ever changing variety of beers that are also prepared by the frairs. I had a refreshing red cream ale!
And if you are brave, there is a huge lobster roll that has to be 2 feet long and weighing about 5 pounds!

It was an exceptional experience. We had to wait about 15 minutes to get a seat and we chose to sit over at the bar as the seating was full.If you wanna catch some great jokes from the friars, the bar is the best spot to be .The ambiance of the taproom was cozy and comfortable and had a relaxed vibe.
The attention to detail and the passion for creating exceptional seafood dishes were evident in every bite. The lobster roll itself was toasted to perfection, providing a nice crunch that complemented the softness of the lobster. The seafood chowder was equally exceptional. It was rich, creamy, and packed with an abundance of fresh seafood.

What a wonderful find! Hot shrimp dip and New England Flatbread were delicious. Took some cherry and blueberry cobbler home. Cobbler was delicious.

I cannot give a better recommendation than to say that my dinner here was the true highlight of my trip to Maine! This is such a wonderful restaurant. Brother Donald explained that the lobster in our lobster roll, which had at least a pound of lobster and was in about an 18 inch freshly baked baguette, had been in the water 8 hours earlier. It was so delicious. The seafood chowder was filled with a variety of seafood and was not overly thickened, but was very creamy. I enjoyed every minute of my time here. I highly recommend the Friars' Brewhouse and Taproom.

We love Friars! Kim, Brother Don and the rest of the staff is amazing! The food is truly exceptional. Best lobster roll, soups, meatloaf, etc. Whatever you get you will not be disappointed. Mac and Cheese, flatbreads everything is home made and so so good. The beer they make is the absolute best! We cannot say enough about how amazing this place is. We have become friends over the years and so look forward to seeing every one and patronizing their business.

Worth the wait. Unfortunately our large group did not have a table option with a view, except of the front door; but food made up for that. Extremely large portions and food was so good we all stuffed ourselves. Did not need dinner later.
Recommend saving appetizer plates to share with your companions.
Really enjoyed the flight of beers, helped decide what each of us wanted for 2nd glass.
Go in with patience and a friendly spirit and you will be glad you stopped in for food and or just a drink.

Friday lunch

Waitress Kimberly is awesome.

Food is so good and so much!

Had the Lobster Roll, flight of beer and individual pours, Baguette Bahn Mi, Hamburger, Pork Pie, Chowder, flight of beer - loved it all !! Fresh food ! Ordered a loaf of bread to go.

Everything was absolutely delicious. Be prepared to come and spend several hours. All of the food is made by hand, "from the ground up". You can't rush perfection.

Nothing is small.

If you are going around trying different places for lobster rolls, save this place for last, otherwise it will ruin your trip. It is the best in Maine hands down. The roll seems pricy, but it is enormous and can be shared by 2 or more people. Fresh baked bread for the roll you won't find at any other joint and brew their own beer. Incredible staff and atmosphere. If you are impatient, don't come here. They prepare the food with care and it takes some time, so need to relax and enjoy the experience as it much more than a meal. Amazing.

This was such an incredible meal.

DO NOT BE DETERRED BY THE ATMOSPHERE. What this place lacks in welcoming staff and atmosphere it 100% redeems itself with the food and beer.

I was immediately turned off by this place due to the decorations, religious themes and staff. However after a few min of settling in and understanding the waitresses humor, I warmed up quite a bit. I ordered the seafood chowder and my boyfriend got the lobster roll. Holy monastery were these both incredible. Brother don greeted us and chatted pleasantly as we finished our meal. We are really touched by the homeyness and charm that we left after enjoying this place for an early lunch. Definitely a highlight and DO go out of your way to enjoy this food. Obey the rules and don’t make any substitutes to your order. They know what’s best for you.

What an incredible menu. It's always the "hole in the wall" places with the best food and drink. Get the baguette Bahn mi. Trust me.

Amazing service and food! We enjoyed the clam chowder-this is a must have! As well as the lobster roll. Both were incredible. We split the roll and it was more than enough for the 2 of us! So glad we stopped in!

Best lobster roll we tried in Maine, and we had about 5 - big chunks of claw meat instead of shreds and served in a house baked brioche bun. Deserts were outstanding. Nice beer flight.

This unique nook in Bucksport is worth the trip even if you have no other reason to come to this town, though, there are plenty, considering the amazing bridge with its observatory, Fort Knox, and plenty of nearby hiking and beach opportunities.

That said, welcome to The Friar Brewhouse, a Mainstreet Americana style diner that is slightly unhinged from level parallels to make it more interesting but not enough to distress.

The staff is personal, with great character that is movie worthy, and complementary to the setting. Food choices may seem a bit bland in writing but, I assure you, are nothing but the best possible example of each.
I, for one, do not like to order pasta dishes, especially not Mac and Cheese, because I believe them to be of poor value for my money.
Well, I was here with my boys, gave in to Mac and Cheese, and loved every bite of it.

We also had a burger that disappeared before I could take a picture for a good reason and a sandwich that was also surprisingly delicious.
I will, 100%, come back for seconds.

The food portions were huge you can split the Mac and Cheese plate. Along with anything else. We had the hot shrimp dip and wings along with the Specialty Mike's Mac a Cheese. The food was amazing the service was spot on. The flight or four beers was tasty and the are brewed just up the road. We will be coming back to Bucksport for this again.

Very friendly atmosphere, and staff. The beer is definitely unique and delicious. The soup was like home-made and the bagette sandwiches reminded me of time spent in Europe. A very enjoyable experience.

What a treat! We had quite a wait but then figured out that if we sit down at the counter we can order a beer, making the wait a lot more fun. The food was worth the wait and the servers were lovely. The price was right and we look forward to going back.
