Last week, I swung by Alchemist's Refuge for the first time. I'm new to Magic the Gathering. I was looking for a few specific cards to upgrade my new Commander deck, and they were the only local place that had them all. The store is located on the second floor inside the strip mall amongst some office spaces. The storefront itself is modest. It's just a counter and a few displays. Individual cards are hand-picked by employees, but you can go online and look up their inventory, place an order, and then swing by to pick it up. And, their inventory is the best that I've found in the area so far by a mile. The employee working the counter was super nice and helpful. The owner poked his head out to check in, was also super nice, and he's the person who went and pulled my cards. The prices were very reasonable, comparable to anything you might find online. While I was waiting for my cards, the employee working the front counter asked what formats I played. I told her I was just getting started on Arena, but building a Commander deck to try to find a game where a beginner would be welcome. She told me about Taco Tuesdays, one of the store's weekly events where several tables are playing Commander and there's a group order of (delicious) tacos from a nearby restaurant. I decided to show up yesterday and I couldn't have felt more welcomed. The table I was playing with (Matt, Alex, and Nick) were experienced players who were helpful and accommodating, and I had a great time playing my first games of Commander with them. I tried getting into Magic in the past a few times, but sitting at a table with competitive players can be intimidating and even pointless if they're just wiping you out in four turns. That wasn't the case at Alchemist's Refuge. They gave me pointers and didn't get remotely annoyed when I screwed something up or needed help. It was just... fun. As it should be. I learned more in two hours than in weeks of playing Arena. The owner is deeply invested in Magic himself, seems like a font of knowledge, and is creating a space where new and experienced players are appreciated, and where the game is respected. It's more than just a place to buy cards. It's an awesome, little hideaway with a treasure trove of MTG inventory and a gamer's vibe. I'm looking forward to going back.

I was in town briefly and had some time to stop by a couple game stores. I regret not going straight to this one! Their magic selection is amazing! They have SO much inventory of new and old Magic cards. Everyone was incredibly friendly and invited me to play commander with them (I absolutely would have if I had more time) they do commander nights on Friday and Saturday. Cannot recommend them enough. If I'm ever in town again I will absolutely stop by!

Jonathan the owner is a super nice guy and really involved with his patrons. Small shop but a nice play area and a lot of inventory singles wise. Good selection of sealed product. Something that puts this shop above and beyond is the online singles inventory. This is something that makes a shop stand out. I drove about 45 min to get here and it was worth the trip. Will definitely be returning and plus, where else can you dig through boxes of old MtG cards at!?

My friends and I found this place over break from school and I couldn't believe how great it was. The owner is awesome, they have good inventory and fair prices for singles and an inviting EDH community.

An awesome new game store, focusing on collectible card games. If you are into Flesh and Blood, Magic the Gathering or Pokemon do yourself a favor and check this place out! The community they are building here is knowledgable, but not leetist. John, the owner, welcomes you with open arms, like you are friends from back in the day. From the moment you step in the door, you can tell this a place to call home and you will want to return. Happy to call Alchemist's Refuge my new LGS.

Jonathan runs the best LGS in town for commander nights—it doesn’t hurt that he’s about the friendliest LGS owner you will ever meet. You will have an awesome time with a fun, casual crowd that just feels good to be around. I’ve been going once a month for a few months and I’ve played with different people every time. Last time I brought my 10-year-old because the vibe is so chill here. This is the shop for you!

This store is run by one of the greatest guys I know! So I may be a bit biased, but I also don't say that about just anyone. Medina (the owner) conducts his business in a very professional manner, but he is also very gracious as well. One can tell a lot by the atmosphere of a place, and you can always tell the store is open and inviting to all, with much fun to be had. If you are in the area be sure to stop in and play some games!
