This place is a treat! The food is great. Ive never been to Afghanistan, but something tells me this food is spot on. You are greeted with warm smiles as soon as you enter. The place is spacious and has great lighting. The food comes out pretty quickly. My favorites have to include the bread, the Balani, and the eggplant (not pictured). The custard dessert is refreshing and tasty. I love this place. I wish they would offer cups of water.

Sami's Kebab House offers a delightful array of Afghan cuisine, featuring traditional dishes bursting with flavor. Their kebabs, grilled to perfection and seasoned with a blend of spices, are tender and succulent, offering a taste of authenticity with every bite. The menu also includes classics like Mantu, savory dumplings filled with seasoned meat and topped with a tangy yogurt sauce, creating a harmonious balance of flavors. Don't miss their aromatic Kabuli Pulao, a fragrant rice dish infused with spices and topped with tender meat, carrots, and raisins, showcasing the rich and diverse flavors of Afghan cuisine.
The owner’s (Sami) personal touch extends beyond the menu, as he takes the time to recommend dishes based on each diner’s preferences, ensuring a truly personalized dining experience. Their passion for Afghan cuisine shines through in every dish, making Sami’s Kebab House a destination worth revisiting time and time again.

Lovely staff and amazing service! Came with a group of 6 and we placed quite a large order. We got our food quickly as well as an extra appetizer and desserts on the house! The afghan rice pudding was so creamy. It was my second time here and first time for a few of my friends and everyone loved it! The afghan naan had the perfect golden crust on the outside and very nicely soft inside. Their hummus was also very smooth and combined greatly with the afghan naan! The lamb was slow cooked well with lots of flavor and melted in your mouth! So tender and literally fell of the bone with minimal effort. Portion sizes were large as well and half of the group did not finish their food. The prices match the amount and quality of food given, though there is an automatic service charge of 20%. I did not mind it though as my friends and I enjoyed our time there and it was definitely worth it. We even added a tip on top because we were very happy with the service.

It was an overall great time with friends alongside amazing food and hospitality.
8/10 would recommend and definitely coming again.

First time trying afgan food, it was delicious. The raisin mixed with the rice, gives it a sweet taste, add the white sauce and ohh my gosh bellissimo.

We came here for an after wedding event. The food was delicious. Once we all got seated the manager was bringing out food on time and hot. It was so efficient and most importantly, so delicious. We were a mix of Pakistani and Bosnian families and the Afghani food was so delicious. I definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for halal food for a family event or gathering.

I don't even know where to begin. As I stepped in the restaurant, I was welcomed by the owner as well as aromas of Afgan cuisine. The food was amazing not to mention the owner was very generous ensuring we were satisfied with our meal. Every dish I had here was a trip to "flavortown". I would highly recommend this place to anyone whose looking to try new flavors with a warm comfortable ambience.

Not sure what they marinate the skewers of meat with, but the flavor of their meat and seafood never disappoint. A great place to share a meal with friends and family. It is always nice to be greeted by Sami who is excited to share his Afghan food and makes guests feel like family right away!

Food was excellent. We all had lamb shank with qabuli polao and lamb chops. Meat was perfectly cooked and was literally falling off of the bone. It was juicy and succulent and very flavorful. Food portion was adequate. But we didn't like the hummus that much, it was little watery and thin.
Service needs to be little bit better and attentive towards table. There was little bit of mix-up but no complaints.

I loved this place! Just a few subways stops away and I was transported across the world. My first time trying Afghan food but there are some similarities to Uzbek food. Had a mixed kebab, eggplant and hummus and it was all delicious! The kebab was very tender and well seasoned. The restaurant itself is warm and inviting and the service was excellent.

Simply the best Afghan food in the entire tristate area. The highlight of Sami's is the Mantu dumplings. The dough wrap is super soft and thin, with lamb filling cooked to perfection, juicy and tender. Dumplings are decorated with yogurt and a hint of herbs including fried mint, served as a platter of six. I can eat these dumplings everyday as the main course and still want more.

The mixed kebab platter, is perfect for anyone curious to try a varieties of options. The tandoori chicken is mild but very tender, and the beef kebabs are cooked to perfection with a nice bed of fluffy, sour sweet Kaboli pulaw. Yum...

Finally for desert the Firnee is a must. Similar to rice pudding but much more fregnant with a subtle hint of cardamom and rose water. I take one extra home for the next day breakfast and eat it as slow as possible to last me the entire week. That's how good it is.

Sami's is definitely one of my first restaurant choices, except it's more than a restaurant, it smells, tastes and feels like home.

Popped into Sami's Kabab House on a whim during a Friday trip out to Astoria. Perfectly situated between the Noguchi Museum and the Museum of the Moving Image, if you're trying to visit both in the same day as I was.

We enjoyed a leisurely lunch in the dining room lined with vintage movie posters and tasteful nods to Afghanistan and the Middle East. Our food came out quick, and the two servers handling our table were attentive and genuinely interested in our enjoyment of the food. They even threw in a free desert when we said it was our first time!

Overall, we all had a great experience and I would definitely be back next time I'm in the area!

Amazing staple of a restaurant. The food is truly good and fulfillig. The portion sizes are large and we always leave with leftovers. You know it’s a good restaurant when there is no parking on a random Wednesday.

We always order the mantu (dumplings)!
And we ordered a kabob mix plate.

They honored us as as dine-in guests even though we came in 30 minutes before closing and they gave us extra baklava & an eggplant dipping. The food tasted great and the owner was delightful. A beautiful combination between great good and great service, try it out!
