The Velveteen Speakeasy

Our favorite speakeasy ever. A true gem tucked into the subterranean of Stillwater. My husband and I love it so much that we got married here and everything was perfect. The food, the drinks, the staff...EVERYTHING. It was such a special event and we will remember it always. The owner was incredible to work with and a real treasure of a person. Thank your for making our day truly magical!

Honestly a great little bar, tasty and strong cocktails. They do have some delicious snacks and desserts, but eat something more substantial before coming here. You do need to either have a reservation or show up at open- don't show up without a reservation if you have a party over four, you might be waiting for a while as there isn't a lot of seating but the atmosphere is fantastic. Just absolutely phenomenal.

This place is awesome! We came here after having dinner down the road. The cocktails were phenomenal and our waitress was so bubbly and kind! I especially liked how all the cocktails were clearly defined and explained. I am excited to come back to try the food - everything sounded amazing!

A nice little hideaway for drinking and relaxing. The stuff mushrooms were my favorite, well worth the price, and savor the flavor. Drinks were awesome!! Both myself and my wife enjoyed the wide variety of drinks. The mixed drinks had a very surprisingly pleasant kick to them.

What a unique and wonderful place.

We came to Velveteen for a late evening drink last night, having been advised to visit by a friend, and the entire visit was top-notch, from the dark and mysterious stairwell leading down to the basement level, to the classy brick and curtain decor. The atmosphere and ambiance make for an unforgettable experience.

The drinks were superb, and I was delighted to find that they serve several signature Mocktails for those of us who do not imbibe but enjoy the vibe.

Our server was above and beyond, offering excellent, attentive service and a friendly demeanor throughout the evening.

We would definitely recommend a visit if you find yourself in the area.

Excellent drinks, and good service. Great ambiance. Prices may be $1 too high for drinks, but everything is high quality. Rico Sauve and Bee's Knees were incredible (best I've had). Decent beer selection as well, including bottles and taps. Food options were plentiful (more than you would expect) but also were slightly overpriced. We definitely will be back for a special outing.

Through an unexpected door is one of the best hidden gems in Stillwater. Very cozy and well decorated atmosphere, a step back in time feel. Great for a date or anniversary or even a night out with a small group of friends. The charcuterie board is a FULL board, a rare find these days. Classic drinks presented very well. Overall a must check-out while in Stillwater.

Great place, very nice. Drinks were wonderful. Only thing i was hoping for was a puzzle or secret entrance to get in for a speakeasy. Not mad still 5☆ for the ambiance.

We love to drop in here whenever we're in town. Make a reservation, though, because it always seems packed, even in the winter.

There's a lot of seating for an intimate evening and even some larger tables for small gatherings.

Velveteen has a lot of fun crafted cocktails and the barkeeps do a fantastic job making these or any of the classic standby cocktails.

The food here is top-notch as well.

One of the best places I've ever been to. It was a special date night with my wife and we will defintely be back. The food was phenomenal, the well-crafted drinks were exceptional. The ambiance is romantic, hypnotic, enticing, and warm. The staff was very professional, yet friendly. I don't think it's possible to leave this place without a big smile on your face. Anytime my wife & I are in Stillwater, we will defintely come back. Thanks so much!

I've been to The Velveteen multiple times and they are always on point. With a great speakeasy feel, theme, and overall atmosphere they offer some wonderful drinks at a generally fair price. This is a great location for a date night, with a little added fun, and feels like a pleasant surprise once you find the door and feel transported to a swanky bar that doesn't match the outside. Sometimes it gets a little busy, but that's a sign of a great location.

Fun place to go. Making plans to go back! GET a reservation. Drinks are good, but I prefer an Old Fashion. It's not on the menu but they made me look one no problem. Food was ok. You go for the atmosphere.

Great ambience to share an evening chatting and laughing with friends! Really enjoyed their prohibition themed cocktails and the recommendations for our server. We unfortunately didn't try any food but really enjoyed our time. You get dark ambience while still comfortably chatting with your friends.

Service is phenomenal, bartender made us custom drinks based on what tastes we like and they were so delicious. Atmosphere is underground dark but classy. They have a nice variety of drinks and food. Just looking at the drunk picture makes my tastebuds awaken for more. Love that it’s a local family business who are very active in running it. Staff has also been consistent and there for longtime. Great little place to grab drinks and catch up with friends! Vintage speakeasy vibes with a cozy atmosphere that makes you want to stay and enjoy yourselves even longer.

Excellent selection of drinks and appetizers make it hard to leave as well! Tucked in the basement of the historic old shoe factory make it all the more charming. Well worth the hunt for this gem!!

Great bar, amazing drinks, even better service. We had a few cocktails, housemade fireball shots, cheese plate and stuffed mushrooms.

We stumbled upon this place when we attempted to do the escape room in the same building. This is off the beaten path - not on Main Street, but a couple blocks west.

It's in the basement of the building and has prohibition era vibe. The decor seemed classy and high end.

We went in a Saturday night around 7pm. It was busy - we couldn't get a table (reservations required seemingly on weekends) . But sitting at the bar was even better in my opinion! The bartenders are dressed on period attire and are true showmen!! They toast rosemary with a kitchen torch for the Bee's Knees cocktail.

I asked for a fun cocktail made with Tito's vodka since I have celiac and am gluten free! He made me a custom, gorgeous looking strawberry, mint, pineapple drink-- it was delicious and not too sweet!

We didn't eat here but the charcuterie boards looked impressive (gluten free options available)

Absolutely incredible speakeasy in the heart of Stillwater! Amazing cocktails, friendly staff and delicious small plates. The shrimp crostini hands down was the favorite!

Awesome artisan cocktails. The menu is more contemporary than some of the other speakeasies in the area. Great live music when I was there. The advantage to this speakeasy vs some of the others in the area is that there was no need for reservations and no time limits. Prices are higher than a normal bar, but well in line with other high-end establishments.
