The Southern Cafe

Enjoyed a great breakfast. Our server was very friendly and engaging. The food was delicious, and the portion sizes were just right, at least for the french toast. Ok...the lumberjack portion was huge. Look at the size of the pancakes.
The atmosphere is very nice, definitely a southern feel.
If you haven't been here, give it a try.

Home of the Nasty Biscuit! The restaurant is huge! Lots of seating and the waiting area is large. You can even order a coffee while waiting for your table. The staff was nice and the food was excellent! I especially liked the chicken fried chicken and gravy.

Really nice atmosphere. An old building converted into a restaurant. Loved the multiple levels, rustic ceiling, and walls made of brick. Went for lunch and had gumbo lya, but after seeing some of the breakfast dishes coming out was thinking I should have had breakfast. They looked wonderful. My server Sandra was awesome. Very attentive but not over bearing.

My overall grade for Southern Cafe is: A-

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and we decided to finally try Southern Cafe as we pass by the place frequently. It's a gloomy, rainy Sunday and we arrived at 9:30 AM, thinking, it would be almost empty and we'd get right in. Well, there was a wait, it was about 25 minutes and we received one of those vibrating beeper things. Huge upside while you wait, besides perusing the menu to see what we'd like to order, you can walk up to their "bar" area and order some mimosas to help you wait. The drink was delicious and apparently, (see photo) there are many, many different flavors of mimosa you can order. Blood Orange for me next time.

The menu is big and there are lots of great items to choose from. I chose to go with what they seem to be famous for, the B, G & E. Biscuits, gravy & eggs. My wife wanted to order the chicken and waffles which seems to be a big draw, but was told it would be a 30-minute wait (just like when you order an apple pancake at other places).

My only "beef" here is that the chicken & waffles, does not have (30-minute dish) on the menu, and since we waited 15-25 minutes for our tables, it would be amazing if we could "pre-order" this 30-minute dish so that it'll be ready when you sit down.

Other than this, the food was great, service was exceptional and the atmosphere is great. There are multiple floors and the place can seat a ton of people.

The next time, we'll try to pre-order the chicken & waffles and I'll make it a point to order the pancakes which for me are a make or break item for a great breakfast place.

We didn't try their coffee, but it seems to be a better than the regular breakfast restaurant coffee.

If you don't mind waiting for a table, I highly recommend this restaurant. They're opened for lunch as well.

Unique interior space and vibe.. it was a slow Wednesday weekday morning 9am few people in there...food was plentiful.. and delicious.

Great breakfast place! Their biscuits are huge and their plates are so filling and good portions. I ordered the country fried steak and it came on top of a biscuit with delicious gravy and wow it was the best I ever had. I also got a coffee with liquor which was yummy! My husband and daughter liked the food and drinks as well. Their menu is pretty big so plenty of dishes to choose from. We got seated on the upstairs level which was cool, very spacious and not too close to others. Would definitely visit again.

This place has very large servings. A single order of eggs Benedict has four poached eggs.
I tried an item called the "nasty biscuit".
A biscuit with fried chicken breast, over hash browns and covered with sausage gravy.
It was quite an experience.
They serve pancakes about the size of a dinner plate.
This place is worth visiting at least once.
I have been here twice, and I'll be back soon.

This place was our first time. We was very pleased, with our food, very huge portions!! The food is tasty, biscuits was good, with that strawberry jam.
The waitress Jasmine was excellent, professional, friendly, pleasant. This is a sure place to check out. 😊

Come hungry. The food is great and the portions massive. The staff is hit or miss. Two times we were there we they waitstaff was amazing, friendly and very professional. The other time I think our waiter was new and the couple of times we asked one of the other waiters for something they were totally hands off.

We were very pleased with the service and value/quality of food both times we have been here! The coffee was decent, but a little overpriced for the quality of it. The iced teas are amazing!

The food came out super fast and hot! Great flavor and taste! The nasty biscuit has the chicken in it and the breading on it, is just amazing! This is definitely a must see!

Excellent food and great atmosphere. Clean, and multi-level seating breaks up noise level and adds a level of intimacy/privacy to your experience. Pics are biscuits and gravy and a stacked and loaded Greek bread french toast.

Friendly waitstaff and delicious food. The restaurant was not too busy and had lots of room for sit in service. They serve really good coffee of varying types and are fully equipped as a cafe. I had the dark raspberry chocolate coffee and it was fantastic. They have "eggs your way" on the menu so some things you may see in the pictures are not on the menu and do not have a name.

Oh My SUPERsized meal! There is a ton of food for your money! You are set for the day after you place an order at Southern Cafe! Biscuits were Ginormous! Food was phenomenal. Fresh, tasty and hot out of the kitchen. Our server was so very sweet and attentive. She did an outstanding job! Clean and new. Kinda a cross between Buttermilk and Cracker Barrel. There is a small store area with preserves and other items. Our first visit. We will be back.

I must relay the WONDERFUL experience I had recently at Southern Cafe. This past Saturday, I had invited various friends to lunch after a meeting. I thought about 10-12 would join. Turned out 29 responded! So here we all come around 1-1:15pm(they close at 3). SC rose to the occasion with swiftness, poise, and professionalism! EVERYONE left delighted, full, and pleased. And with bags…because of the massive portions of food!! I would like to say Southern Cafe is one of my favorites! Thank you and we WILL be seeing you again! And a shout out to Ms. Grace, our table’s waitress, who showed what it looks like to do your job skillfully and GRACEfully(no pun intended ha-ha)! She was EXCELLENT!

What a lovely breakfast spot!
Fun, upbeat vibe and great decor. Makes you feel at home and relaxed.
Good was plentiful and main breakfast dishes very tasty and no problem adding or taking away ingredients when ordering.
Have to say tho, the biscuits, tho huge were somewhat dry and flavorless. Kind of reminded me of Bisquick drop biscuits.
We'd go back to try more breakfast options. Great place to gather. Mimosas too!

Oh my!!! The Nasty Baby was perfect. I wished we lived closer.

We were in town for a wedding and ended up eating here for breakfast two days in a row! The interior was an adorable farmhouse style, very bright and inviting. The mimosas were TO DIE FOR (get the blueberry lavender, you won't regret it!) and everything we ate was incredible. I had the Chicken Fried Chicken the first time, and it was huge. The meat was juicy and the gravy was delicious smothered over the biscuit. (And cheesy grits on the side? Yes Please!) Our server, Madalyn, was an absolute doll and she took great care of us. She was so kind and welcoming we had to go back and see her again! (I got the French Toast Extreme the second day and holy cow it was awesome) thank you Madalyn and the Southern Cafe for such a filling, delicious, and lovely breakfast experience. We are looking for another reason to come to St Charles just so we can try more of this spectacular menu!

This is a great place to eat. Original menu. GREAT food! The biscuits are awesome and the cinnamon pancakes!!! Just get them. The service was fantastic. I can not say enough good things about this place!!

Yummy! We enjoyed our breakfast. Everything came out exactly the way we ordered it. Food was warm/hot upon making it to our table. The spinach and feta omelette was tasty - added tomatoes. Fruit was fresh. Biscuit was warm. The chicken fried chicken was packed with flavor, served hot, and plenty to bring home. Coffee was flavorful and also hot. Thoroughly impressed. I’d like to come back soon.
