My husband and I just LOVE this little coffee shop!! Everyone is so friendly, the food is delicious, and we have to get at least one loaf of their homemade bread every visit! The coffee is fantastic. I usually get a cappuccino, and it has never disappointed!

This shop is a gem. This place does not have WiFi... which is exactly why it is so great. This is where you go to slow down, unplug, have face-to-face conversations, meet new people, or cozy up with your favorite book. And the coffee tastes even better than it looks

Absolutely my favorite coffee shop. There is great attention to perfection, from the freshly baked bread and scones, to the unique and flavorful menu items, to the robust and delicious cups of coffee or tea. The interior is welcoming and friendly, and the music is pleasant, but in the background, where it's supposed to be.. :-) I come here as often as possible. Love this place!

This place has a chill vibe. The guy that helped us knew his coffee, history and was very helpful. They were about to close when we strolled in and he didn't hesitate to accommodate us to the best of his ability. It was delicious. My son thinks their sourdough bread is amazing. Thankful we stopped in on a whim during our travels and you will be too

Wonderful atmosphere, delicious food, and great staff. Even the bread is home-baked by one of the monks. Its a wonderful place to comes and escape the stress of the outside world. You can watch people come and go and see how connected the community is to this lovely coffee spot. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

One of my favorite local coffee shops. I can always count on Mad Monks to have great coffee and baked goods. The mocha made with homemade chocolate sauce is one of the best drinks I've ever had. I've been visiting since they opened a couple years back and hope they stay open for many years to come.

At least once a week. Check out the wall hangings and the table tops. Best staff around. And if you don't like their usual coffee, they can offer you different blends. As to the farmer and the milk, the alternative was large glass containers the staff would have to run through boiling water - and plastic is better than glass if droppedon a kitchen floor. They do try to shop locally. Enjoy!

Everything I've had here is amazing! I usually place my blind trust in them and let them surprise me. My boyfriend is so in love with their chai that others are ruined for him. They also have delicious scones---the one I had was nutella!
Even though I was super excited about the new Starbucks in Charles Town, I still find myself coming here more because I know I can get unique, lovingly prepared coffee and treats you can't find anywhere else---made by real monks!

They offer an unexpected quiet and relaxed corner of Charles Town with fast service and friendly staff. Since they're a new business, I can see why their main focus is about providing great-tasting coffee; but for them to offer a wider drink menu in the future would be an awesome inclusion.

This coffee shop has a great atmosphere! It is cozy and welcoming. The coffee is very good...and so is the service. I highly recommend supporting this local small business.

Went here this past weekend with the wife and kids before hiking. I got an iced coffee, wife got a chai tea latte, and the kids each got a hot chocolate, and a few snacks. Each drink was fantastic. Will definitely make sure to stop here again our next visit to Harpers Ferry.

Mad Monks is putting humanity back into coffee, taking back the barista art from the mechinal science of industrialized coffee! I test my coffee shops by their cappuccini and what a great cappuccino Mad Monks makes!
The espresso grounds are sourced from local roasters and the milk from local dairy farmers (on the right days you’ll see the farmer himself drop it off). The milk is steam frothed perfectly by the barista ganging it (i.e. no Starbuck’s thermo-gage). The presentation is beautiful and clean. And to put the icing on top (or froth if you will) it’s all so much quicker than your average in-and-out coffee chain, but who would want to be out of this place quickly anyway!
The baked goods are made to perfection with very high ingredients. The breads are made by monks in town (real Catholic, hood-wearing, cool-haircut monks) and the pastries by a sister (again, a real veil-donning, wimple-wearing, long-robed nun) who are the nicest and most pious people you’ll meet.
The atmosphere is cozy and clean with enough decor to keep your eyes interested while not overwhelmed. With a comfy couch and even a nice selection of classical books you’ll find yourself wanting to make a morning of it. Again, to add to it all, in the bathroom (the wonder even extends to the lavatory!) there is artisan hand lotion, and the softest and most luxurious (while still disposable) hand towels I’ve ever seen in a coffee shop (or any shop for that matter). Let’s just say that they were nice enough to notice (which is saying a lot for paper towels)!
After talking with the barista and one of the monks, they admits it’s hard to keep this treasure up and running but they are convinced that people want truth and beauty (on the physical and spiritual levels) and so they will continue striving to produce beautiful goods with true ingredients in a beautiful atmosphere with honest people. Thank God for Mad Monks who only seem mad (i.e. crazy) because of the peace they bring which can seem so foreign to this frantic world!
Now...time work off this caffeine!

What a neat spot! I even saw the farmer bring in the fresh milk. Definitely not your big city coffee chain. Chill atmosphere. Looking forward to returning and trying some fresh pastries.

It's not a large food menu, but all of it is excellent. Cappuccino and Souffle sandwich, made with their own monks' bread, makes for an excellent breakfast or light brunch!

Always enjoy this unique little coffee shop in downtown Charles Town. Where else can you find a “monk brewed” coffee?

The drinks alone make this place notable, but the food and atmosphere bring it well above most other coffee shops, and it's definitely worth visiting for the chance to see the monks that roast the coffee.
