Timothy Albers, MD

This rating reflects an experience I had with Dr. Albers about 7 years ago but remains to this day both my worst experience with a medical professional and my most shining example of gross incompetence from a doctor.

I went in with an obvious bacterial infection of my tonsils aiming to get an antibiotic prescription. Dr. Albers told me that the white exudate on my tonsils was indicative of a viral infection and that it would go away on its own. Despite knowing a basic Google image search of “bacterial vs viral throat infections” would yield hundreds of diagrams showing tonsils with viral infections to be red and swollen and tonsils with bacterial infections to be covered in white gunk, I succumbed to a regrettable lapse in confidence given my position as a patient and his seeming certainty. As a result, I did not get any medication.

The next day, I left the state to visit my long distance partner, which was a trip I had been looking forward to for months. Two days after visiting Dr. Albers and being diagnosed with a “viral infection that would go away on its own,” my tonsils were so swollen they were rubbing against each other, I could barely swallow (it was excruciating), and I couldn’t speak at all. I wrote down my predicament and visited a clinic in Little Rock. I ended up taking TWO five-day courses of clindamycin to clear up my SEVERE bacterial infection and paid $250 out of pocket as my insurance did not cover out of state medical care.

I had had unsatisfactory visits to Med Serve prior to this but since this instance I have avoided them altogether.
