Outstanding BBQ with great customer service! Family friendly. The smoked turkey, brisket were amazing! I had brisket dirty rice and Mac & Cheese, both were tasty. Definitely worth checking out! Banana pudding was delicious!

I grew up in TX and moved away for a decade. My memory of TX BBQ was better than my experience after moving back -- everything just "fine", standard-fair, Rudy's level. Not bad. Not great.

Bar-A not only exceeds expectations, it has an "it" factor because of the family running it and the culture they're creating. If you're lucky enough to get there before they sell out, you won't be disappointed. Everything is on point and above. This is TX BBQ.

I wish I could give this place more than five stars. My friends and I found this lovely spot from Ant's BBQ YouTube channel and we knew it was a place we had to visit ASAP. We swung by this past weekend and it was amazing. It was relatively busy but it wasn't an hour long wait like Killen's, Truth, Pinkerton, etc. We were able to get in and get out withing 15-20 mins max. We were treated like family and was offered samples of the brisket and I was offered a free link when I ordered the jalapeno cheddar sausage. We ordered the moist brisket, pork ribs, beef sausage, jalapeno cheddar sausage, beef rib, casserole, dirty rice w/ brisket, and the banana pudding. I honestly loved everything. The moist brisket was perfectly cooked - it was soft and tender but it wasn't overcooked and the bark was nice and thick. The sausages had a nice snap and it tasted and felt like they were really densely packed. The banana pudding was honestly the best I've had in Texas so far. Would definitely come back again - easily in my top 3 favorite BBQ places.

We came here because I saw the "Eater" YouTube video about this joint. Recently ranked #1 by Texas Monthly for 2024. This place is the bomb 💣

Get the turkey, garlic sausage, and burnt ends, with ribs. Holy moly! This place is highly worth it! Will come again.

The food was amazing. We wanted a grazing-style dinner for a friend's bachelorette/bridal dinner and they delivered the BBQ we ordered and set it up so nicely. 10/10 food and service.

I saw them on YouTube and drove an hour and a half to try this place and let me tell you, they didn't disappoint! Everything was amazing. They customer service was excellent and the food was fantastic! I will definitely be returning with my family to try them again!

From watching a YouTube video on Bar-A-BBQ on our couch in Amsterdam to experiencing their food in person, it’s safe to say it was worth the trip up there. We’re fortunate enough to have family in the Houston area and convinced them, as well as their extended family to join us on an adventure to Montgomery. Highly recommended for all

This was our first time at Bar-A BBQ. We thought it was great! The pork ribs were fall off the bone fantastic. The brisket was delicious, as was the pulled pork. We had brisket dirty rice, cucumber salad, and tater casserole as sides, and they were all very tasty. We will definitely be back!

Best bbq in Texas for a reason. They had me at free beer while you wait. A wonderful hometown atmosphere while not being to far from the city. Definitely worth the drive out.

Such a great/fun experience. Love the new kids in the block. Friendly staff, great & welcoming to talk to and tour their smokers. A must when in the area! Brisket sandwich was amazing with/without sauce!!!

My wife and I travel around and eat BBQ as often as we can. Bar-A is definitely near the top that we have had. They were unfortunately out of ribs but that made us try the jalapeño cheese sausage. It was top notch. Definitely recommend trying this place if you are in the area. The free beer or can of soda is a nice touch. Also the tallow cookie was worth the price!

Great BBQ and great staff but let’s discuss the issue before I get to the review. Friendly staff but didn’t pay attention to their first customers!!! We went for breakfast. Got there about 9.45am and they told us “they just sold out of breakfast and changing over for lunch. Grab a drink, grab a seat and we’ll be right with you!” Great. So we sat for almost 40 min while they cut over. No problem. Another family came in around 10 and sat next to us as did a few more people. Then about 10.30 people come in and start stacking up in line. They never announced they were ready or come on up. Nor did they address the family that parked themselves in front of the cash register to tell them there were about a dozen people ahead of her that had been waiting a while…. FYI. Same comment out of the others we had been waiting with. They were curiously waiting to see how customer service player out… oh well. Now for the review.
The brisket is great!! Good smoke, good bark. Super tender. The ribs were good with a great bark, but a little dry. The Texan sausage had good flavor with a great snap however needs more fat or something to be more juicy. Cornbread Pudding and the Cheesy Taters are off the charts!! I could munch on their pickles all day.
Green bean casserole isn’t a casserole. It’s green bean with crispy onion bits on top… I’ll skip that one next time.
The staff is super friendly.

Y’all. I’m one of the biggest BBQ snobs I know and this is the best I’ve had in a restaurant. Period. Brisket is king in Texas and their’s wears the crown. The sausage had a great texture and the cheesy potatoes were outstanding. Lastly the people were amazing. Personable and helpful. Please go try it. You will not be disappointed.

Went to Austin for my honeymoon to check out central Texas bbq because my wife and I love bbq. We first heard of this place from YouTube. We were trying to decide between Bar A and Goldess and I am glad we chose here. Even though it was a 2.5 hr drive from Austin I am glad we went! The brisket, the dirty rice and the corn bread were all amazing. Way better than Terry Black’s. Brisket was right on par with Franklin’s which is the best I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to go back someday. I predict this will be a top bbq restaurant in Texas soon. Keep up the great work!

Traveled here from Germany on a BBQ roadtrip through Texas. Goldee's, Snow's, Terry Black's... all terrifyingly good.
But Bar-A-BBQ tops them all.

Very rarely do regular people get to find a place where the food leaves you in utter silence and only find yourself laughing and giggling over what you’re eating. If you’re a proud Texan like me, this place will have you falling in love with Texas all over again. Not just because of the food but because of the people who make it all come together. The pork ribs is undeniably delicious and the jalapeño sausages was unexpectedly a wonderful surprise. We drove an hour to get here and ~20 minutes after we left, we turned around because we wanted to try the banana pudding. And I did it happily. Thank you to everyone here for their hard work and Texas kindness. I can’t wait to come back for more…

We are first timers at the restaurant but had visited them previously when they were in the food truck. Absolutely fantastic food. The meat falls off the bone on the pork ribs and the smoke ring on it is perfect. The brisket had a nice chart of the outside it was so soft you didn't need teeth to eat it. I highly recommend the dirty rice and banana pudding.

I love what they're done with the inside and the outside of the restaurant. Great ambiance perfect music and you can't ever go wrong with dead animals on the wall :-)

They also give a military discount which is very appreciated.

We went on a Saturday, there was a line to get in, I'm glad we waited!! The food was amazing! We loved every single thing we tried today!! We will definitely be back to try other things!! 😋
