Mid-East Cafe and Restaurant

I 1st had food from this place when I ordered from one of the food delivery apps. The restaurant itself was an old bar on the University of Akron Strip, which is now a distant memory. I have to tell you that if I had to order from here based on driving up to the restaurant that it would likely never happen. The street is under construction, which makes it difficult to access. The place needs some brightening. The outside needs some TLC. The inside was under-lit and dim. It was very bar like, but even then it's old time 70's bar like.
The food that I have had from here is really good and hold a strong value on quality and portions for the price. The New York City chicken dish is a treat. There is a ton of chicken. The chicken is grilled to perfection and well seasoned. There are onions, lettuce, tomatoes and seasoned rice, with a yogurt sauce drizzle. I was amazed by it the 1st time that I ordered, but then (I believe) someone substituted mayo for the yogurt sauce on the second time that I ordered and destroyed the balance. I didn't order for several years. I saw a food channel that covered the food trucks in NYC that served the Halal Chicken and it made me recall this place. Another thing that is missing is the ability to add or change meat from the food delivery apps. If I wanted to add or substitute Gyro meat on my Halal bowl I should be able to get it for a fee. My daughter took me here for lunch. The owner was great. It kind of reminds me of a north African open air restaurant. The location almost dictates a university student guest. The food was delicious. Flavors just popped in my mouth. There was a cre'me on my chicken and rice. The hot sauce was perfect.

Had lunch with a friend this past weekend. The owner/chef recommended a wonderful dish with rice and shrimp. My friend had a falafel wrap and was delighted that the chef used fava beans and making it. He was charming and helpful and I really hope that people patronize place m, as it suffering through road construction, which affects business.

Got the vegan chick’n on rice. Was ok, liked the char from the grill on the “meat” but was lacking in sauce im used to on plates like this. Maybe I should have checked or asked. Still was pretty good. Have had falafel from them before and it’s good ! Also got baklava and I don’t think I’ve seen one this big before. It was great after it warmed up in the car lol

We came in very late night with a large group, the food was phenomenal and the service was wonderful! They were so accommodating and friendly even with our rowdiness and the food omg. They came out with new sauces to try throughout. Highly recommend this restaurant and if you live garlic, get the garlic sauce. Us out of towners were very thankful for the great meal and great hospitality!

Obsessed with their dolmas...the delivery options are a bit weird...so I usually just pop in to order. The service has always been great though, also I asked them if they could help me with my antique hookah (finding a glass base for it)one of the proprietors was so kind and asked me to bring it in and show him the hookah and then quoted me an amazing price and told me to let him know when to order it! How great is that?!?!

Got the lamb gyro rice, grilled chicken rice, philly cheesesteak and cheeseburger. They do an amazing job with the food and service is good too. Spoke to the owner who also enjoys being the chef and he is an amazing person. Must visit!

A nice mix of meat and cucumber sauce.
Also loved the fries. Even with it being take out, the fries still had a crisp taste to them and were not soggy. Also, loved the seasoning on them.
Thoroughly enjoyed my experience!

Giving this restaurant 5⭐ because the food was amazing and the lady who served us was super kind. We had chicken and lamb with rice which tasted even better than some of the halal carts in nyc

One of my favorite lunch places now. The food is excellent, and the owner very nice to talk to. I've had the chicken shawarma wrap, falafel wrap, hummus, and baba ghanoush, and all were very good.

I went here to pick up food for my wife and I. We decided to try Mid East because it was somewhere new. I can honestly say from walking in to finishing the meal we were both very impressed. I am quite fond the Middle East, the culture and the food. Walking in I felt like I was taken right back to a cozy restaurant in the desert. The owner Mohammed was extremely friendly and was very gracious with me practicing my Arabic. The food is fantastic and the service is phenomenal. Shukran Mohammed, we'll be back!

The Guava juice was delicious. Could give 5 stars for that alone. Hummus was pretty standard, hard to go wrong with it. The wraps were also delicious. Thanks for being open so late! Definitely will be returning.

Very authentic middle eastern (Egyptian) vibe,delicious food, friendly staff and the owner (Mohamed) is a very welcoming person.
Definitely my everyday go-to chilling place

I door dash from here quite a bit since i work down the road at the hospital and i gotta say it just always hits the spot. Very good food. Highly recommend the New York City Finest Mid-East Halal Chicken Over Rice with White Sauce Special.

Three of us dined last night at the Mid-East Cafe after a trip to the Zoo. We wanted someplace close and felt lucky we chose the cafe.
Great waiter.
Amazing food. We loved each appetzer... vegetables, humus and OH the beans.
The entrees NYC Chicken and mixed fish were good. EXCELLENT. Really loved the rice pudding.
We'll be back. Worth the drive from the Youngstown area.

The food is absolutely amazing! I’ve been here 3 times now and wasn’t disappointed at all ! I’ve had the halal chicken over rice with salad, absolutely amazing!! And Everytime we order from here we get the baba ghanoush for appetizer, two days ago we got the falafel and shrimp po boys and I was soooo satisfied after eating both. Stop ordering boring Chinese food and try something from Mid East , you won’t be disappointed! The guys who work here are awesome and super friendly and they apologize for longer waits but the wait is worth the product! They gained 2 more customers!
