We took outdoor seating in literally the farthest corner and they still managed to take good care of us. I was expecting the food to be pricey, but it's actually well priced for the content and service that you get. Will be coming back, their burger is my boys favorite!

Delicious meal that is upscale but still reasonably priced considering the quantity and quality of food you're getting. Ordered a smattering of dishes from snails, oysters, cheese plate for appetizers. Each one was very light delicate, not large portion size but still filling and very flavorful.

The entrees on the other hand were the star of the show. Big portions, proteins executed to perfection and the 38 North Duck Breast is absolutely to die for. Huge whole duck breast, perfectly cooked medium rare, crispy crackling skin, soft tender meat but juicy despite the lean cut. Would come back solely for that dish.

Desserts were also impeccable with traditional French preparations. Croissant bread pudding, chocolate pudding, Apple tart. Each one very unique but well executed in preparation.

Service was very friendly and food came pretty quickly.

Was able to make a same day reservation without trouble for 4 people and the restaurant is quite large. Parking lot outside makes it easy to not have to hunt for parking in downtown San Jose but we did take the last parking spot so try to come a little early just in case.

Delicious food. Vegetarian friendly options available. Good portions for their small plates. Had the grilled mushroom entree, mussels and gnocchi small plates and the bread pudding for dessert that you see in the pictures. We both left very full.

Service was great. The only thing is the outside ambiance could be better to elevate the experience.

We were celebrating and they were kind enough to offer us some complimentary sparkling wine which we appreciated!

Favorites: Duck Breast and Buttermilk beignet.
It is an upscale restaurant but not too fancy or pricy. Food is delicious there.

Absolutely blown away by this experience. The food was truly exceptional. Every plate we tried was incredibly flavorful, well balanced and properly executed. We ordered the tasting menu and it was so worth it - the short rib was so soft it fell apart with a fork, the gnocchi was perfectly crisp on the outside but soft on the inside- never mind that truffle dressing. It made you want to pick up the plate and lock it if you could. The wine options were broad and the server was both knowledgeable about pairings and very attentive. Don’t miss this!

There were so many delicious options on the menu that we decided to try a little of everything and skip the entrees. Everything was delicious and would recommend. Only critique is that the beer tartare needed a little more salt to balance the richness of the double egg. Our server was also very attentive and really sweet - would go back!

Great restaurant with chill vibes, spacious interiors and a nice outdoor patio.
The wine selection is good and the food is excellent.
Don’t skip the panna cotta as dessert 🍮

We got steak, duck breast, cod and mushrooms for entrees. Have to be honest, the mushrooms dish is our favorite. Duck breast is also very delicious. The steak and cod are good but not impressive. Very cool vibe, family friendly.

Rustic French inspired cuisine restaurant tucked away in a quaint corner of San Jose (Willow Glen). Arrived after 8pm and there was still quite a wait, but luckily a couple of spots opened up at the bar. Others were not so fortunate. Recommendation: get reservations.

This place drips of quality. I like it.

Appetizers (goose liver mouse, snails), entrees (gnocchi, lamb shank), and dessert (bread pudding), kept me wanting more.

Craft brews were excellent. Service was tops.

Lively, personable, and enjoyable French Restaurant with great craft-cocktails, robust wine list, and great small and large plates. The Lincoln Avenue (cocktail), Butter Salad, Norwegian Halibut, and Bread Pudding were all excellent. A bit on the pricier side, but worth it!

Edit: Second visit just as enjoyable as the first! Mesquite Grilled Little Gem Lettuce (with Crispy Duck Confit), Tomato Bisque (soup of the week), and Hearth Roasted Hokkaido Scallops were all delicious! Crispy Manresa Baguette had an enjoyable crunch.

From cocktails, to appetizers, dinner and dessert, ingredient combinations were fantastic. Each sip/bite was savored. Our waiter, Reuben, was fascinating to speak with and even the hostess hurried to hold the door for my aging mother. Such great service and ambiance. Congrats to owners and team. We’ll be back again….

TL;DR: Cozy neighborhood spot serving yummy modern French fare.
Our reservation was on the patio, which had plenty of heaters and was well sheltered from the wind. The spacing between tables was enough to make me feel safe while still cozy.

Everything was well balanced, from the drinks through the dessert. We had a half dozen oysters and burgundy snails to start. Unfortunately, the liver mousse had run out. Entrees were the duck breast and branzino.

Duck breast was juicy and enhanced by citrus on the plate. Seems like the golden beets were reduced in citrus; whatever it was, it was delicious with the duck. The jus wasn't salty, and I wished I had some of that Manresa bread to sop it up.

Branzino was the favorite, despite being roasted instead of grilled. Grill had a mishap, but I didn't miss it.

When struggling to decide which side to get, Veronique raved about the brussel sprouts. Rightfully so. My date could barely resist inhaling the dish. Roasted well with just enough acidity and sweetness to keep you coming back for more.

We ordered the yogurt panna cotta for dessert, which was nicely dense yet light. The strawberry sauce with fruit bits and mint were exactly what I was looking for in a refreshing dessert.

My date had the French 75 cocktail (or something like that). I hate gin, because I've always found the juniper taste to be overwhelming. This cocktail changed my mind about gin. Delicious. I had the Au Revoir, which was exactly what I wanted... Until I tried the French 75. I'd never had lavender bitters. The unique taste lifted my cocktail from good to great.

Veronique is lovely - her warm and attentive service was perfect. We didn't mention that we were celebrating an occasion, but she noticed and asked. She brought an additional 2 beignets with caramel sauce at the same time as the panna cotta. A sweet surprise. The caramel sauce was sweet for me, but I like that it's served on the side. I was able to barely touch the sauce to adjust the amount of sweetness to my liking. Beignets themselves were fried perfectly.

I'm usually hesitant with French cuisine, because my experiences have been too salty. I also don't like to review places based on one visit, but Black Sheep Brasserie impressed me that much. I look forward to returning and trying more dishes. I may even try the French onion soup, a dish I've never enjoyed due to excessive saltiness.

Food was great and service was awesome. Easy to get to and they have parking right next door which is convenient and for me boosts it a star. Wine list is ok but cocktails are well made. We ordered the lamb shank, butter lettuce salad, French onion soup, beef tartare, gnocchi, scallops, and our two desserts were the bread pudding and beignet. All of the dishes were great, though the lamb shank was a little heavy and had a goat cheese taste to it, party due to it braising in whey but overall not bad.

We had a wonderful dinner at the black sheep. First, our waitress, Veronique, was one of the friendliest and attentive interactions we have had in a long time. She made us feel so welcome and even gave us a glass of bubbly at the start of dinner to celebrate our honeymoon!
The food and drinks were also delicious. Everything was thoughtfully planned out and cooked extremely well. We had a few small plates and for entrees, my husband had the filet mignon and I had the duck, which was the best I had ever tested. We felt overall, it was well worth the price!

A lovely little French bistro tucked away in the heart of downtown willow glen. Next time you talk a walk through here, take a slower pace so you don’t miss it! They have a richly flavorful and exotic menu with some surprising ingredients. They definitely have strong knowledge of flavor profiles and how they pair with others.

They’re also not stingy with portions. I didn’t order it but they serve a 24oz ribeye on occasion. My wife and I walked in expecting a modest tasting menu and walked out stuffed!

Wait staff are very quick and polite. A big plus in my opinion. I didn’t feel like I was waiting forever for my server to stop by.

Black sheep is worth a visit

How does this place not have michelin stars yet?
They have the best staff, spectacular food and drinks, and a great ambiance. The presentation of the food was tastefully artistic and pleasantly plated.

I highly recommend the duck, it wasn't gamy at all; was the best I've ever had. The bread pudding and buttermilk beignets were both amazing desserts to finish off the night.

This is my new favorite restaurant in the bay area, we'll be coming back for sure!

This is among my favorite restaurants in San Jose, and probably my favorite in Willow Glen area. I've tried just about everything on the menu, and I have never been disappointed. Everything I've sampled or ordered has been practically perfect. The oysters are so fresh. The duck liver mousse is rich, smooth, and creamy. The charcuterie board is a meal in and of itself. The grilled trumpet mushrooms are earthy and smoky. The salmon skin was perfectly crispy while the salmon itself flaked off with just a touch of the fork. And the cocktails were perfect. I like mine on the sweet side, and the bartender gave me a small glass of simple syrup so I could sweeten to my taste. The service is always top notch.
