Really good sandwiches. I got the only vegetarian option on the menu, but I'd definitely come back for another. If New Deal Fruit is a 10/10 (which I think it is), I think the sandwiches here are like a 9/10. I'll definitely be back.

Great old school bakery and sandwich shop. All house made breads and pastries. Saint Joseph (Italian Sub/sandwich) was great. regular and Sicilian style pizza. Pastries are incredible also. Definitely worth a stop

Food was great! Staff was very personable and professional. Large aray of baked goods, deli goods and subs/ sandwiches. Very nostalgic shop. Like stepping into a piece of history. Interior is relatively small w/ limited outdoor seating. Parking of area can be hard to find, but food and service makes up for any inconvenience.

Perfect little Italian bakery & sub shop! It smelled of heavenly, fresh baked bread. It had beautiful Italian music playing in the he doorway so I had to stop in. We ordered two subs that were on perfect bread and full of flavor. My favorite thing they sell is the fresh bread candles by Rockport company that capture the smell of the bakery! Great stop in Gloucester!

I have a girlfriend who really loves cannolis. She has sworn that the ones she gets in the North End of Boston are the best, until she tried Virgilio’s. We now have a new favorite spot. Their whoopie pies are great too! Will try to branch out next time I am there.

This is the BEST ITALIAN BAKERY I have ever had the pleasure to enjoy! Staff is very friendly and helpful. They have delicious and decadent pastries and SUCCULENT Sandwiches. You GOTTA GO!!!!

Freshness, bakery or a sandwich I'm satisfied everytime I visit fir a lunch or afternoon sandwich. Canalis are my go to for a desert w/ a sandwich on a St. Joseph's roll you'll love it like I do.

Great little sandwich and soup place. One of several special places on Main St in Gloucester that we really enjoy. The eggplant parm is very good.

Great selection of subs. The main attraction for me are the pastries though: their custard cones are the best I've had in the US. Very fresh and really well made.

A Gloucester staple and the best sandwich shop anywhere.

You can get more or less any regular sub or sandwich you could elsewhere, but the real gems are those unique to Virgilio's. My all-time favorite is the St. Joseph sandwich, which I could eat forever, but the rest of the menu is not to be overlooked, especially the North Ender with balsamic vinegar or the Porky Joe for you pulled pork fans.

For you pastry fans, Virgilio's has a ton to choose from - more than I have had the chance to try. If you want a guaranteed satisfying after-sandwich treat, grab a cannoli.

Gloucester has a lot to choose from, but you should absolutely not pass up the chance to grab something from Virgilio's when you have the chance.

Caprese sub. Authentic Italian cookies. Cannoli. Napoleon. Sweet helpful counter girl. Quick walk to eat by the sea. You can not ask for more! This place is fantastic. Absolutely delicious, everything, the bread, pastries, selection. Stop by if you're in Gloucester!

When I walked through the door I knew I walked into a hidden jewel. All my dreams came true. The bread alone is the best I've ever had! I opted to try a sandwich on the most heavenly roll ever! The selections are almost overwhelming because there are so many hot and cold selections that are so good you will drool just thinking about it! Let me tell you that they are all amazing to taste. You can pick from several fresh baked breads to pile the deliciousness on! And pile high they do! While your waiting for your tasty treat you can mull over the incredible packaged pastas, homemade sauces, and other top knotch foods they offer there. The homemade sauce is to die for! Bravo! Once in awhile you find a real jewel and Virgilio's is it! I wish I had more than two thumbs to put up for this little quaint shop in the heart of Gloucester ma!

Great little bakery/sandwich shop. Super friendly staff and the food was absolutely delicious. We went with two of their signature sandwiches and they were exactly what we were looking for in the sense of classic Italian subs. We got the to counter and saw they had lobster tail pastries and had to try that. Also fantastic. Great shop and will be back.

Small shop on Main Street in Gloucester. They have pastries and some stuff to purchase in store, however we fo there for their sandwiches and subs! Delicious...

Delicious and HUGE sandwiches at a great price! It's a crowded and popular place but you won't be disappointed you waited a few minutes for one of their subs.

Omg the cannolis are delicious! Recommend if you are nearby to stop in and check them out. Lots of other tasty things and smells in there.

This is a prime destination for us living in Gloucester, MA. Incredible fresh italian stile bread. All kinds of pasta worlds best pasta sauce. And then there's there's the sandwiches! Oh my! Top it off with pastries to die for. The raspberry elephant ear. All wrapped in a store taking me directly to Italy. Now I'm hungry again! Btw, you can buy Virgillo's bread all over Gloucester in grocery and convenience stores.

Very good Italian sandwich. Don't forget to ask for hot peppers if you want them (and you do). As they say the bread makes the sandwich and it's a top notch hoagie/hero/sub bun.

But none of that matters. Get the lobster tail pastry. Get all of them. Perfectly crispy and flakey shell with the best custard filling anywhere. The other pastries are probably amazing too but we unfortunately only had one.

Have to say this reminds me of growing up. We had deli’s with fresh bread and delicious meats. Awesome job. We must come back soon!!!
