Stopped in for lunch and We Had the swordfish kabobs and salmon. They give you a smoked cod dip and crackers in substitute of table bread which is unique and flavorful. The meals were both awesome and would highly recommend. Great cocktails too!

A beautiful spot right by the shore, it is very lovely. The price is reasonable and the waitress, food and ambiance is a unique one of a kind experience. The waitress, so kind and taught us about the city, and the impact it had on her family. The food was 10/10, the clam chowder was perfection, and the food was made with so much love. Each of us had a different plate and it was amazing, with no complaints. Lastly the ambiance is amazing, locals were having a grand time and we genuinely loved it. I’ve never experienced such a perfect restaurant.

I have dined here a total of few times, each dining experience was enjoyable. Though last night (10/12/23) was crowded it was the first time our party felt tight/a little suffocated sitting at our table, there wasn’t much spacing between tables + extremely noisy, but besides that the food and service was excellent! Added we celebrated a birthday and ordered their oysters which were extremely fresh along with a few sushi rolls, fisherman’s platter, stuffed lobster and finally a dessert - strawberry shortcake was amazing! Totally recommend dining here!

We visited this restaurant for a date night. Located right by the water, it offered really fresh seafood. They brought out salmon dip and crackers while we looked through the menu. To start, we ordered sake and oysters. I enjoyed a cup of Portuguese soup while my boyfriend had the hamachi crudo.

For main courses, I chose the lobster Thermidor, and he had the sushi sampler with truffle fries. Our server, Lisa, was very courteous, and we experienced quick service even though the restaurant was fully booked. We left extremely satisfied and will definitely return to the Black Whale again!

The place does care about their food and customers service. The people that works here is friendly and attentive, and they know how to recommend a good meal of their menu.
The Latin salmon was delicious and it is well combined with greens, avocado, pickled onions and sweet potatoes mash. All the flavours were incredible but this last one was the winner after the salmon. The sweet potatoes mash had an amazing creamy texture, it felt more like a dessert than a side, that’s why I had it ate it last.

Upscale fresh catch fine dining establishment. Amazing lobster dishes, great value on specials, tasty mixed drinks.
Raw bar and sushi also very strong; overall very versatile high-quality menu with good prices and great specials.

A great seafood restaurant situated at a seaport with probably the highest dollar value of fish per year in the US.

I had a fish and chips and I cannot cite anything negative about it. The portion was fairly large. My only suggestion could be to make it smaller and perhaps cheaper?

There is plenty of outdoors and indoors seating available. The outdoors has a gigantic umbrella which protects from sun and rain.

Everything was amazing! They serve complimentary fish dip with crackers. Delicious!

I recommend making a reservation as they do get busy.

Loved this place!! The lobster was amazing as well as the stuffing and the sides (green beans and potatoes) Definitely would recommend getting the lobster thermador. The lobster meat was sweet and tender and was the perfect size for dinner. The stuffing was filling and had nice pieces of shrimp and fish in it. Our waitress was Kimbra and she was extremely friendly. You can dine inside or out, depending on the weather, they have tons of parking spaces in their lot. You will also appreciate the ambience with all the fishing boats to see when you park definitely a fishing community at its best. The lobster Thermidor was reasonably priced at $44 per person can’t comment on dessert because we were too full. Three of us got the lobster Thermidor +3 drinks came to about $180.

Follow-up visit to the Black Whale. Carbon copy food order from my last visit. Food was excellent again. 11 months simce my last visit. Previously headed over to the Black Whale for some long overdue seafood fresh from the boat. Cold winter day, so started off with some award winning chowder. Yep, it's still delicious. Got calamari as an appetizer and was blown away by how fresh and quick it came out. Some of the best calamari I've eaten in awhile. They brought over some crackers with a smoked salmon spread that was really good. Stayed nautical for the main dish and went with beer battered fish and chips. Nice chunk of fish, cooked well. A little bit of grease, not too bad. Comes with fries and coleslaw. By thus time I was stuffed again and still not overly impressed with the fries or coleslaw. The coleslaw was a little better this time around. Sounds like award winning chef Joe Rego has moved on. Great overall experience. Previous Service from Rebecca was excellent. Last server was good, not great.

First time eating and we cant say enough about this place.
Wonderful food, drinks and service.
Food was fresh and plenty of it.
The Cod Dip/spread that came with crackers was so good.
Couldn't stop eating it.
Scallops were lightly breaded and melted in your mouth.
The waitress was a delight. Checked on us a few times. Never over bearing.
We cant say enough about this wonderful place.
We'll be back.

Updating my original review:
Excellent food, location and exceptional service. Highly recommend!

Great outdoor seating area. Server was excellent. Food delicious, but sushi could be tastier. Very fresh just lacking some flavor. Pricey but as expected for a waterfront dine.

I recently wrote the review below a few days ago. Management was so kind and responsive I changed my rating from a four to a five. As I mention below I had a wonderful experience and now very much look forward to going back.

This was my first time here after hearing many great things. The fried calamari was perfect, crunchy, fresh and tasty. The scallops wrapped in bacon was so fresh they melted in your mouth with oodles of flavor.

The reason I gave four out of five is the halibut was dry and flavorless although fresh as expected. The dish was supposed to come with couscous but got barley instead. Which was great because the barley, carrots and asparagus were smothered in lemon gremolata and the flavor was light, creamy and just the right amount of lemony tang. My disappointment was that the veggies and cous-cous were the stars of the dish and not the halibut.
Or should I say the lemon gremolata was the star.

Dessert was amazing peanut butter, vanilla ice cream heaven with whipped cream, Oreo cookie crunch, hot caramel and chocolate syrup. The dessert was huge and three of us could not finish it. We did get a nice sugar high.

The staff, Lisa and others were extremely friendly, helpful and overall wonderful.

The Best Lobster Roll I’ve ever had. I have never had such fresh lobster before and the amount of lobster that was in the roll was perfect. I have tried lobster rolls from many places The Black Whale is definitely the best. Good service and nice atmosphere.
