The Nitty Gritty is my go-to spot for vintage clothing and costumes in Louisville! It has a constantly rotating selection of vintage formal wear, casual wear, and accessories.

One thing I will mention is that plus size vintage clothing is hard to come by here, but that is unfortunately just the nature of vintage clothing. However, the plus size costume selection is plentiful and changes regularly.

I visit a couple times each year, and every time I stop in to shop, the owner is welcoming and informative. She knows exactly where to direct me when I ask for a specific clothing piece or style. I have also sold some vintage clothing to the shop and the process was straightforward and quick.

This local shop is a gem, and I recommend it to all my friends looking for costume rentals or unique vintage pieces.

I enjoy going here & the store next it while I wait for my reservation at Big Bad Breakfast! This place has great prices for very special vintage clothing. All different types of styles & unique colors. They have an upper floor for men’s with all types of suits & button ups. Lots of hats as well. Downstairs, they have tons of dresses, blouses, pants etc. Really cool jewelry. Whoever fills the store & chooses what clothing to put inside both of the stores have very authentic taste. In my opinion, these stores are the most vintage & affordable it can get in Louisville.

I can’t believe I haven’t wandered into Nitty Gritty before now. I went yesterday and had a wonderful experience! The owner was so friendly and sweet! I purchased a gorgeous 1950s purse in PRISTINE condition! I will definitely be back in the future!! 10/10 recommend!! 😊

This is hands down my favorite (and also one of the best) vintage shops not only in Louisville, but that i’ve ever been to! The curated pieces are always in great condition, the variety of pieces they have is amazing, and the whole staff is so welcoming and knowledgeable. Literally over half of my wardrobe is from here and I always leave with something one of a kind when I stop by!

My go to spot for any costumes for themed parties. They offer rentals and consignment. I have been coming here for years! I have been able to sell them old prom dresses, get amazing top notch costumes for events, and even purchase some killer accessories. I highly recommend you check out the Nitty Gritty for any of your consignment, high end vintage, and costume needs. PSA they are not a thrift shop! ❤💖🥰

The nitty gritty is one of the coolest stores I’ve ever been to. It’s curated vintage, so they have lots of high quality items for reasonable prices. This store sells beautiful vintage clothing and accessories, they have a large collection of awesome, rentable costumes, which is such a sustainable and creative idea for a store to do! I’m so happy to have another lovely small business with kind owners and employees on Barret Avenue!

what a great shop with so many finds! an extensive men’s section, too, which i think often gets overlooked. the owner is very sweet and you can tell that the shop is carefully curated. i love that they do rentals, too! will definitely be back!

I have always loved this vintage store and whenever I have visitors it’s always on my list of go-tos in Louisville. I have purchased some of my favorite clothing pieces here. The owner is always so friendly and I always have a great experience whenever I visit!

Lots of treasures and super helpful staff. I picked up a gorgeous over-sized costume ring and it was very reasonably priced. Excited to go back for bday and Galentines gifts!

Actual vintage items so it's neat even just to look. Cool costume rentals. Neat building. A little pricey though.

They are like a retail store. High prices for used clothing and items. Fat Rabbit next door is much more reasonable.
