The Varsity

We’ve been to the Varsity three times this week after appointments at Emory. We have had cashiers Comfort, Messiah, and Destiny. Each time we ate at the Varsity, it appeared to be clean and the food was good. Our order was correct every time, except for our last visit, but we had our family with us, so we had a total of 10 orders on one ticket. Even then, we were given the missing items with no problem.

I've not been here since I was 8 years old. With my parents in town for the weekend, we had to go! It doesn't disappoint. My chilidogs and onion rings were awesome, the fries were so delicious, and that sweet tea hit the spot!
They definitely live up to the hype and are a must visit on your list of you come to Atlanta!

Having never heard of this place, let alone been here, the sheer size of the area where you order threw me off guard. You immediately realize this place is "special" in the sense that it's been here a long time... and the cup confirms, since 1928.

I have no illusions that the food is the best ever created, but given it's price, it definitely delivers beyond my expectations. Don't come here expecting a culinary delicacy.

While the burger is really simple, it's still flavorful. The patties are pre-formed and likely seasoned with just salt and pepper. The hot dogs are also very simple... yet tasty - you'll end up going back for a second! Playstation

The onion rings are legit. They appear to be freshly chopped and battered onions instead of something out of a frozen bag. Same with the fries - they appear freshly cut and fried. Both are good. If you like onion rings you won't be disappointed.

The orange-icecream conction tastes straight up like an orange dreamsicle. Pro tip: A local place where I live has something similar and they put fruity pebbles in it. If you take one of these things home sprinkle some fruity pebbles in and you may find a new favorite dessert 🍦.

Overall, the word simple really defines this place. Simple menu, simple ingredients, simple flavors... there's nothing wrong with simple though! If I was local I would eat here regularly with the fam' 🤷‍♂

This place has been around for almost 100 years now and I’ve been going there for almost 50 of them. The atmosphere is unique in that you order at the long counter and take your food away on a tray, there are about 6 different ‘rooms’ you can choose to sit in. It’s an Atlanta staple and a must stop. The chili is like no other. I always get 2 chili dogs with mustard and onions, fries, and a world famous frosted orange shake. They also serve burgers and onion rings.

The Varsity is a place everyone should visit when Atlanta. The hot dogs are great and inexpensive. We both ate for under $20. The staff is friendly and fun and makes it a great experience.

The food was just as amazing as I had it years ago. Clean environment and friendly atmosphere for all ages. Awesome and forward customer service as well. Although the lines can get long, that's expected from a good restaurant such as The Varsity

The Varsity was on our list of places to try while visiting Atlanta. At first I thought it was going to be just another greasy burger spot. We ordered our food and it came out very quickly. It was hot and fresh. We had burgers, hotdogs, fries, & onion rings. The pimento cheese on the burger was amazing! We all loved the chili and slaw on the hotdogs. The kids had a frozen orange slushy type of ice cream desert thing that tasted like a dreamsicle. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a great burger and hotdog place. The atmosphere was super cool as well.

Gameday, Christmas Eve 2023, on the way to see the Falcons play the Colts. I decided to stop and eat here instead of eating at the Benz during the game. First time visiting because I heard of the history with this establishment. The service was extremely fast, with so many different people available to take your order. Clean restaurant, all the staff was very friendly and accommodating. In the photos you will see combos number 1 (Chilli Dog with onion rings) and 3 (Triple bacon cheese burger with fries). Great food and you get a sizeable portion. Next time I am in the area I plan on stopping to get a to go order because my food was that good!

I was born in Atlanta, and I have lived in Georgia all of my life but I haven't visited the Varsity in years. It was Nastalgic to have lunch here today with my sister, who eats here a couple of times a year, whenever she happens to be in Atlanta. Brought back childhood memories of ice skating at the Omni arena way back in the day and our mom taking us to the varsity afterwards. The food tasted just as delicious as it did when I was a child. Absolutely adore the Frosted Orange Shake and of course we had to get us a couple of the varsity hats as well.

A really cool place. It was packed when we got there. Heard about this place for a long time and finally made it here. I guess it's a huge spot for GT fans because the place was full of them getting ready for the game. The fries and onion rings were great and enjoyed the burgers. The staff was great and did a good job with all of the people there. Can definitely see why it's been here almost 100 years

How cool is this place. Plenty of parking. First time visit so I had the #4 Bacon Cheeseburger. Smallest bun on the planet, and you know what, delicious!! Kiara, with lovely red hair to complete the vibe recommended the fries, and she nailed it. Great experience, thanks to everyone that works here.

The food was great! The chili was the best, so tasty. The only complaint is that the hamburger was small. Other than that, everything was fresh and savory. The best meat. Great customer service. Awesome memorabilia all over the place. Nice view from the second floor

This place is just fun. It is gigantic for a burger/hot dog place and the building seems to have it's own pulse. Pretty standard fast food options but the vibe seems to elevate everything just a touch. Quick service even when packed. Decent pricing. Worth a visit.

A long time staple in my mixed family. I came my first time the week Hank Aaron beat the home run world record back in the 1970's . What great memories.

The Varsity is a really cool piece of Atlanta history that’s still serving up some good food. We got the chili dog, double cheeseburger, fries, rings, and a peach pie. All the food was good, but it was the history and atmosphere that really made it a great experience!

The lines were long but super fast. It was everything I expected and more. The fried and orange slush drink were fantastic!

Stopped in for lunch with a group of 37 people, everyone really enjoyed the atmosphere and nostalgia. Definitely recommend this for a group lunch.

We stopped here because it was close to an event. I needed a simple burger joint for my boys and that's what we got. Nothing fancy here. Everything was slightly overcooked, the place looks like a high school cafeteria...i would go back but it was crowded so people clearly love it

It's a classic historic place in downtown ATLANTA. The food is greasy and fried, but great if you're up for that! I love the onion rings & frosted orange. I have taken several people there for their 1st time, and they love it. On this trip I had to buy this 1st timer and I t-shirts. Lol
