I love stopping by Millstream when I'm on Main St. Great beer 🍺 selection and the patio is dog 🐕 friendly. It's nice when they have a fire going.

Absolute VIBE to this place.
The under ground darkness… I loved the low ceilings, all of it fit. The room off to the side with the gates and the fire place tues it all in.

I’m not much of a beer drinker any more, but if you like craft and interesting foreign beers, this is a good place for you.

Also a decent selection of liquors. Great place, the outside looks wonderful when it gets warmer out

This is the best creole cuisine I've ever been in, loved the atmosphere, the service was great, and the food OMG!!! The pulled pork melts in your mouth and the gumbo is amazing, as a plus they have a humongous variety of beers, definitely this turned out a staple for us in St. Charles, love it! ❤

The service here is very personal. During Saturday and Christmas very busy but she still took great care in making everything perfect. Tried a new beer and it it the spot. The bread pudding with caramel sauce will become a new Christmas tradition. There brisket, pulled pork and dry chicken wings are better than some smoke houses I have been to.

Had an excellent time with my son and his friends. Great "bar" atmosphere.
Excellent outside seating.
If she is working the bar, get an Old Fasioned. One of the best I've had in St. Charles County!

A long time favorite place to grab a drink but now the new food concept is crazy good!! Old Millstream Inn has a fab shaded creek side patio and an old world basement pub space plus now Shay’s Creole Smokehouse is offering up a delicious menu of smoked meats and creole style dishes … we had the trio plus some okra and it was excellent!

Best pastrami I've eaten in a long time. The smoke level was just right. He makes his own Creole mustard. He ought to bottle it and sell it at Schnucks.

The Old Millstream Inn has arguably the best beer garden in St. Charles. The beer selection is large, offering many beers from around the world, especially German beers. They also mix up cocktails if that is more your style.

The patio is shaded and sits next to a creek. Plus, in the cooler months, they have outdoor fireplaces that only add to the relaxed, inviting atmosphere.

I should mention that basement pub space is equally inviting. It offers an old-world, cozy, "Ratskeller" feeling and is a perfect place to have a drink on cold day or night.

Lastly, the food is delicious! You can't go wrong with your selection.

Tip: try the Fried Okra!

If you are in the area, be sure to stop by and grab a drink and some food. You won't be disappointed.

I really want to rate this as a 4.75, but limited to whole values a 4 is far too low so a 5 it is.

I have been to the Old Mill Stream here and there over the past 16 or so years. This was my first time there after Shay’s took over the menu.

The Good: The food was good at the Old Millstream before, but Shay’s is so much better. I had the red beans and rice with andouille sausage and the side of coleslaw and both were by far the best I’ve had from any restaurant. Honestly, my wife was tired of hearing me talk about it. Our food was delivered promptly, and despite the bartender being responsible for serving the patio in addition to the basement bar/dining area his service was excellent. We had to wait a while for refills but there really is only so much one person can do with a full bar and full dining area to serve, and a solid wall preventing them from observing our table from inside.

The Bad: Mill fries are no longer an option as a side (but are a separate appetizer). That was one thing that really set the restaurant apart from others for me. Also the service model has changed from the previous one. Now you make your order at the bar if sitting on the patio instead of having a server who waits on guests outside. I much prefer the old model, although I can understand if this was driven by staffing issues, or if this is something that they implement for non-peak hours (we were there on a Thursday for a late lunch).

The food is smoked on a grill outside all day and is excellent. There's a restaurant upstairs and a bar and patio downstairs.
Highly recommend this place

This is a little restaurant with big flavors. I had the Bahn Mi, and let me tell you every bit of this is on purpose. The star is the BBQ pork. Sweet with smoky undertones and a very satisfying chew. The cucumber and pickled carrots take what would be a one note sweetness and punch it up with the right balance of sour and crunch. The jalapenos work with the Sriracha aoli to punch up the spiciness without going over the top. The bun is no afterthought here. Very nice crunch to the outside and smooth on the inside. It really makes the sandwich.

The Millfries also require mention. You might go with the regular fries like my wife. You'll regret it as much as she did. Don't get me wrong, the French fries are great. But these Millfries are little explosions of flavor that make fries seem pointless.

One other note. My son got the hot dog meal and loved it. The fruit offered was generous and the kid loved it. The hot dog came on a whole wheat bun. I appreciate the nod to health conciousness, but he just add the dog without the bun.

The staff were incredible and seemed generously concerned with making the experience great. All in all, this is very worth the trip if you're in St. Charles.

I met up with some friends to have a celebration of life get together for the passing of a friend. The environment was enchanting! The fire pit was going, the stream was peaceful, and the stars were out. The bartenders were spectacular and the food was excellent! This place is a must if you're looking for a nice night out.

Old Millstream Inn/ Shays Creole. My friend randomly picked this place and wow, it caught me off guard. Some of the best food I've had in St Louis. Authentic dishes. Everyone in my party loved every dish they ordered. Maps will take you behind the building. The front door is also easy to miss.
