The Sombrero Restaurant - South of the Border

I would have to say this was a nice little restaurant to stop at for a quick meal. It's very nice looking inside. The decor was awesome. Very clean in the dining area. Girlfriend and I had two specials for the day, which were two beef tacos with a side. I thought the meal was very good. Service was absolutely on point. She was very polite and very informative about the specials. So glad that we stopped in for a meal. I know it is off-season right now. The only thing I would have to say is do something to make it known you are open.

The waitresses that we had for both dinner and breakfast were so kind and just great overall. My husband had the burger which he said really good and I had the BLT on rye (which surprisingly tasted like pumpernickel which I LOVE 😅) which was also delicious. Our 11 month old loved the French fries too which were just crispy enough and not dried out at all. For breakfast I had scrambled eggs and corned beef which was NOT overly salty, thank god. We both loved that everything came with a choice of tater tots for breakfast 🤣 You don't usually see tater tots as an option for breakfast in NY, guess its the equivalent to hashbrowns? My husband had the Mexican omelet with salsa and said it was amazing! The coffee was good, not anything to ring home about coffee but still pretty good and it came in this cute little pot that held a lot more coffee than I expected so you didn't have to bother anyone for more which was so nice. Overall we had the best experience and will definitely be returning when we're heading back to NY!

Out of all of my visits to South Of The Border I have only ever eaten at the ice cream place, and the Hot Tamale building, so I decided to pop in here for the first time ever.

It's a real surprise they don't serve Mexican food here, despite the whole Mexican theme in the entire place, but the food they do serve here is very much worth it nonetheless!

I highly recommend you get the chili as well!

I practically had the whole restaurant to myself, so my service was quick! There does appear to be some sort of private room for bigger groups too.

The potato soup was very tasty &hearty enough for a full meal with ham & cheese in it. The Fried chicken was delicious as well. We had a very friendly waitress.

We were surprised that this place was so good after seeing the ratings. The food was absolutely delicious. The family was super pleased with the food.

I got the steakburger and I truly thought it was one of the best burgers I had in awhile. Definitely would suggest this place for a burger, maybe I'll see you there because I will be going back. Full liquor bar so sit and have a drink while you wait for your food or browse one of the stores. There's plenty to do. Right off 95 in Rowland NC, SOUTH OF THE BORDER

This restaurant used to serve Mexican food but has changed to American since our last visit. The menu is fairly good. They serve hamburgers, steaks, sandwiches, salads, and a few southern dishes. I tried the fried chicken and it was outstanding. My wife tried the BBQ ribs and they were better than she expected. Prices are fair for the type of food. Our waitress was attentive without being overbearing.

I ordered hamburger and onion rings. It was one of the best burgers I have eaten in a long time. Fresh food prepared as you like it.

Good food, great service, clean tables. Granted, they don't serve Mexican food here! We had delicious strawberry margaritas, salad, fried chicken. No complaints whatsoever! Waitress was great, too - everyone here has been super-friendly. Would come back here.

This restaurant doesn’t do takeout. But we decided to eat here anyway and I’m so glad we did. The pulled pork barbecue sandwich is outstanding. My burger was good the french fries are awesome. And the server Amy is very attentive and a very good server. I would recommend eating here if you visit South of the border.

we have stayed here many times over the years on our trip to Florida and this time in 2019 of May the hotel room was not as pleasant and the hotel seems to be getting worse every year that we stay here the pool is a very nice saltwater pool the bathrooms are quite a ways away from the pool down the hall. I think this year swimming in the pool I think I saw mold in the pool filter and there was a hole in the ceiling that somebody threw a shirt up there and I was kind of hanging down. the Kitty play area behind the back hotel 700 hundreds...is very out of dated and kind of dangerous to play on kids could get hurt. salad bar in the sombrero restaurant was kind of empty some dishes at the salad bar we're empty, had to ask for straws and napkins several times had to ask for my drinks to be refilled several times. Bacon bits we're kinda strange they were all clumped and stuck together. based on the money that you pay for the room it was $75 you get what you pay for. It could be better.

The food was delicious and the staff were truly amazing! Such kind hearted people to their customers and each other. I loved the decor as well. Just fascinating!

Had lunch here today and it was incredibly clean! Food was American and Mexican, everything was really good. Our waitress did a great job which surprised me because she was pretty busy but didn't miss a trick. Probably our favorite restaurant in the area.

South of the border has come a long way from when I was a kid. Great food they revamped their bar into an elegant place really nice

The chopped steah and mashed potatoes were excellent, but the green beans had mo seasoning.

Food was great, The restaurant itself looked great, and our waitress Mrs. Amy was absolutely fantastic. Also if you have never had it, the fried ice cream was amazing.

Yummy! Ate the blackened salmon with baked potato and black eye peas with a side salad. Hubby had salmon as well. Kids ate burritos and "Miguel's". Took a bit of time for food to come out of the kitchen but it was well worth it. Delicious food! Salad was simple but like the rest of the food served, very fresh. Ordered an extra salmon for the road. Amy, our waitress, was busy, attentive, all smiles and calm energy. She was even considerate enough to bring my take-out salmon to me in the gift shop next door so I could begin shopping!!! Come in!!! Above and beyond service. When next I pass by, I will stop for a smile and salmon again. Thanks. Sorry, no entree pics. We devoured the delightful food. Did capture my son's ice cream sundae.

Wow, a great place to walk n see alot of things if not in a rush 😆, my first time , feeling like a kid in the park so many things to see 👀 😀 the food 👌 nice simple place n clean ... funny 😁 things

My family of three stopped here Saturday at about 6:00pm for dinner. My daughter had a cheeseburger, which she said was very good. My husband had the rib and chicken platter, and I had the Mexicana Combo, both of which we're actually a lot of food! It tasted great, and the prices seemed reasonable. The waitress, Alisa, was friendly and attentive. For a Saturday evening, it was a shame that it was not busier than it was. The decor was an obvious Mexicana theme, quite beautiful. For whatever reason, I took pics of the beautiful sink basins but not the food, duh!

A very quiet low key environment. Fun decor, even down to the cute small touches like painted bathroom sinks. The food service was quick. The waitress may have been new and didn't check on us often. Which is okay!
