Incredible area and the lodging is wonderful. The staff is very kind. They took in abandoned medical care laborers who couldn't return home because of ice storm yet needed to get back to work downtown. As one of those medical care laborers, I was very appreciative for their graciousness and accommodation to assist with getting us out of the virus. My family will be back and I prescribe it to anybody who comes to townThe staff are excellent and attentive. Free continental breakfast is available in the top floor of the hotel..

A beautiful, old hotel in the downtown core! The staff are friendly, accommodating and very professional. The Valet service staff go above & beyond when checking in/checking out guests and their vehicles. Vince & Chris are young men who are top notch, courteous and very helpful to the guests of the hotel. From the time we arrived early for check in on Friday afternoon to the time we checked out on a very busy Sunday morning my husband & I were taken care of!

Great location and the hotel is beautiful. The staff is extremely kind. They took in stranded healthcare workers who could not get home due to ice storm but had to return to work downtown. As one of those healthcare workers, I was extremely grateful for their kindness and hospitality to help get us out of the cold. My family will be back and I recommend it to anyone who comes to town.

Emily at the front desk, and (I believe) Jarrod (Valet) are very pleasant and accommodating. Really nice lobby. No pool. You must valet. Mini fridge and microwave in the king suite. The furniture in the common area of the suite needs to be renovation/updated. Cute park across the street and a skate park down the street. A Jamaican Restaurant is scheduled to open (a block away) in early 2024.

This was a great hotel to stay in. Everything we needed was within a few blocks from hotel. Our only issues in room 422 were ..
1.The refrigerator was leaning and dirty in back of it.
2. Very very rusty hinges behind the bathroom door.
3. Shower water pressure was weak and tub water went out so slow, that I was standing in water while showering.
This hotel was so interesting and beautiful! Staff was wonderful! Wish I knew about the “Valet parking Only” before we got there. Our grandsons actually loved the views. Thank you for a great stay!

Only down fall I booked my room 4 months in advance and paid $70 more than if I would have walked in and paid that night. Was told that once booked they could do nothing. I got the lowest grade king size room for $278 for 1.night. the higher glass room was only$210 if I would have walked in and said I need a room.

The Tutwiler continues to be an outstanding hotel in Birmingham. The rooms are very comfortable , and clean with friendly, helpful staff. Our family and friends stayed there for a recent family wedding. The presidential suite was perfect for the wedding party getting ready and the couple’s wedding night. We highly recommend a Tutwiler ,a Hampton Inn.

My wife and I spent our wedding night here 29 years ago. The hotel is still very beautiful. The only disappointment was now the balcony room was corporate. Not as a romantic getaway as before.

Vincent & jacquice are the best ever. They are so helpful and attentive and made sure we didn’t have to wait. Made the process smooth and welcoming. 10/10 will never stay anywhere else.

The gentlemen that are working as valets and the front desk staff are fantastic. Customer service was absolutely stellar here! The only improvement I could even think of is maybe a small fridge in the rooms would be nice. I will 100% be staying here again when in Birmingham.

The hotel was built in 1919, all the stone and wood work in the building are original. The staff is amazing, and so is the 24 hour valet. Complimentary breakfast was extensive and delicious. The hotel has been updated with all the modern amenities but still holds that old world charm that a 1919 building should. Hilton hotel group made the right choice in maintaining this hotel's charm. I really wish they would have chosen more turn of the century furnishing for the rooms. Really leaned into that. But overall that is my only criticism. It is in a quiet part of downtown Birmingham next to a magnificent Episcopal church. Linn Park, and my husband, our three Children and I choose to walk to where all the food venues are located. It was a lovely walk. And only a seven minute drive to the children's hospital, our destination for the following day. Overall an excellent experience!!

We had no idea how wonderful this hotel would be when we booked it. We were just looking for a place close to the Lyric Theater. But it was a fantastic place to stay. I would absolutely recommend it.

We were traveling on a holiday but I was able to book the room with short notice for a reasonable rate. It’s an historic property but modernized. Centrally located downtown and we heard from a friend that it has a fantastic bar, but since it was a holiday it was closed. Every single team member was friendly and helpful. Bed was comfortable and room was quiet. It would be great if a mini fridge was standard - I didn’t think to request one as I assumed there would already be one in the room. I’d definitely stay here again.

Traveled from Nashville to Birmingham for ArtWalk & was able to book a room at the Tutwiler the day I got into town~very convenient. Staff was uniformly EXCELLENT; special shout-out to Devon, the valet, who was amazing! Gorgeous views in Room 608. Pillows were extremely soft and comfortable.
Plan on returning to Birmingham this coming weekend for the orchid show & sale at the Botanical Gardens and will most definitely stay here again. Enjoyed it very much.

[Visited July 10-16] In the heart of downtown Birmingham is the Tutwiler hotel operated by Hampton Inn. This hotel has been a landmark in B’ham for over 100 years. It’s only 5 blocks from the Birmingham Civil Rights institute and right across from the Public Library, city hall and on the historic Walk to Freedom route.

There are many stories associated with this hotel, (some good, some not so good), but that is history, we learn and we move forward.

The halls are adorned with beautiful black and white photos depicting the rich and complex history of Birmingham. From coal mining to civil rights, I felt it was very tasteful and respectful.

There is a large front porch with lots of seating as well as a little sitting garden. The rooms were well appointed and the staff was amazing. Mrs Jay and the others at the front desk made sure any issues were dealt with and our stay was awesome. The gentleman at valet were always friendly and did a great job all week long.

Check out my review on the Hotel Restaurant & Bar, 6/Sixteen. It is attached, but separately owned and operated from the hotel. They were awesome too and deserve a separate review.

I look forward to staying at this storied hotel again.

I will definitely stay at the Hampton Inn & Suites Birmingham Downtown Tutwiler when returning to that area. Every employee there with whom I came into contact was friendly and helpful and happy to give restaurant and area suggesetions. While the rooms may be small, they are well appointed and extremely clean and comfortable. They truly make you feel at home!

I’m not sure what her name was, I wish I had remembered to get it but whoever was working at the front desk in the morning of August 26th was an absolute godsend for me. She was incredibly patient and helpful when my truck wouldn’t start and I had no charge to my phone. She gave me a power brick to charge my phone and I was able to call a mechanic to help me. The guy said he wouldn’t be there for another 45 minutes and I had checked out early, around 9:30ish and she offered to let me go back into my room and wait until he got there so I’d atleast be comfortable. She was so incredibly kind to me during a situation that stressed me out to the max! She was absolutely wonderful and I hope she knows that!

Awesome hotel with a lot of history. It’s not the original Tutwiler but it’s still cool. Every staff member from front desk to restaurant and bar has been awesome. Hotel has a lot character. Wi-Fi is trash though.

We arrived late and my parents had booked the wrong hotel. The staff was very kind and helpful in securing a second room for us and making sure my parents were able to stay here with us. The location is nice and the hotel has a lot of character and history.

Had a wonderful 3 day stay for our wedding. The staff was very accommodating, the rooms were gorgeous, and the beds were comfortable. The historic look of the hotel did wonders for our photos, and was simply beautiful. If we ever need to stay at another hotel, we will definitely look here again. But heads up, parking is a little skim so there is a valet. Honestly it was worth it for our stay!
