Dixie Kitchen and Bait Shop

Came on a Thursday afternoon when Dixie Kitchen wasn’t as busy compared to a weekend. The food was excellent, the service was fast and friendly! The food was fresh! I ordered the gumbo bowl, fried green tomatoes and pork chops it came out in a decent manner and the drinks got me lit!

The best dining experience I've had since I've been in Chicago. Food was delicious. Full of flavor. Service was impeccable. 10 out of 10. Don't miss this experience.

A delightful eating experience. Great helpful waitstaff who are there to make your dinner just superb. The food is authentic, tasty and so very good. Seafood cakes as appetizer was delish. I went with the crawfish etouffee which was a big portion and so delicious, layered flavoring so good. The dessert menu was tempting but we were sated. Love this place

4/2022: First time trying it. I was concerned with the recent reviews being so mixed but the wait was not bad (take-out) and the food was good. I am really critical of food so prepared myself for disappointment. Lol
The fried green tomatoes were so good that I forgot to take a picture until I was at the last one. The baked Mac n cheese was really good. Another review mentioned an odd flavor to it. That flavor is smoked cheddar. When I make it, I usually make a regular pan and a pan with some smoked cheddar. It is great but not for everyone, very strong and rich. I also had the smothered pork chops with mashed potatoes. I prefer mine fried but this baked chop was good too. The gravy was very good.
Other people in my house got the jerk catfish and seafood pasta (Alfredo I think) and they loved it. They both also got the gumbo and said it was amazing.

Updated 7/17/22: Decided to go in and eat. 30 minute wait on a Sunday so not bad at all. Our party had Jerk Chicken, Red Beans & Rice, Alfredo and loved them. I had the fried Catfish, greens, Mac n cheese, and Fried Green Tomatoes (again). Tomatoes were amazing again. Also ordered a Whiskey Sour. (They have a FULL bar). The drink was superb. They made a Boston Sour but I love those too and it was great. Exceptional service, pricing, and bartending.
Will definitely be back.

Update 1/21/24: I've been back many many times and get pickup orders at least once a week. The consistency of the food is phenomenal. It has stayed great. Today I finally tried the burger with the fried green tomatoes and fried jalapeños on it. Really really good. I don't usually eat burgers but will be buying it again.

This is one of the best restaurants in the Chicago area, and definitely the best Southern food restaurant in Chicagoland. The food was perfect, the service was outstanding. The restaurant was clean with lots of tables available. There was wonderful Cajun music playing on the PA system but not so loud that we couldn't hear each other talk. There was excellent fried green tomatoes, seafood cakes, catfish, gumbo, red beans and rice, blackeyed peas, collard greens, cornbread, and sweet potato pie. The sweet tea was perfect, just sweet enough but not too sweet. I highly recommend this restaurant!

We had a wonderful experience! The fried green tomatoes were lightly coated and delicious. The chicken with barbecue sauce was perfect! (Loved the sauce) The cobbler and coleslaw were delicious too! The server Thor was friendly and very knowledgeable regarding the menu. I will definitely be returning soon!

I enjoyed my meal. Normally it’s crowded but worth it. It’s kinda dark inside. But it was a good experience

If you haven't been you have to go. The name with "bait shop" at the end can throw you off about what to expect, so I'll tell you all of their New Orleans themed dishes taste better here than in New Orleans!!! Nice family, date night, or single atmosphere with excellent server staff. Management that comes out to talk to the customers and address any concerns. All A+

Took my mother here for her impromptu birthday dinner. They even quickly set up for our large party. Service was really great everyone was friendly and helpful. I have a small children and the space was even friendly to my small children. They had a great kids menu too.

Definitely reminds me of my childhood experience of eating at the old Dixie kitchen in Hyde Park. Large portions and everything is delicious. I had the double baby catfish w/ red beans and mashed potatoes and the Mrs had the 4 piece fried chicken with Mac and cheese and greens.

Let me say, "the food was simply AmaZzzzing" I had the baby catfish, and it definitely wasn't a baby. My husband's catfish filet was fried to perfection. Mac&cheese, was let me just say "Schmacking!" Portion sizes were well worth the fair price. My husband & I will for sure be back. Ask for the chef, and give a standing ovation after you get your meal and enjoy.

We went for dinner and enjoyed our southern style food. Service was good and so was the food. The Fried Green Tomatoes were the best!

The blackened and jerk catfish fillet was delicious. The macaroni and cheese take just like grandma made it. Stop by there for some good soul food you will not be disappointed.

Hands down one of the finest establishments I have ever visited they definitely capture the essence of Southern style cooking you can't go wrong from the fried green tomatoes The homemade Jimmy Cakes you can't go wrong with these two cocktails make sure you guys try them Blue bayou and the swap water you thank you later I would recommend for my number eaters to try their gumbo unfortunately I get to live for I curiously through my family because I have chill food allergies but they are the ones who told me that Dixie kitchens gumbo is great so I had the jerk salmon with a side order of veggies muscles delicious By the time I look down everything about plate was gone make sure you check this location out and don't take my word for it the proof is in them bread pudding hope you all enjoy reading my review

Was with a group of telephone company retirees. Enjoyable experience. Only had 1 server for about 20 of us. Christie handled her business. She was exceptional!! Will request her again when we revisit.

I've been coming here for years and they never disappoint me. Everything is always seasoned good, fresh and well proportioned. The drinks are good as well.

Very good food. The waiter was by himself but he did a wonderful job taking our order.

A friend suggested this place to me, and they didn't disappoint. The food was delicious. The servers' knowledge of the food was minde blowing. Will definitely be going back.

I am from Mississippi born and raised so I can be a bit picky when it comes to my soul food. The food here is really good. I will definitely come back here. Oh yeah and did I mention I live an hour away and I will still be coming back!
