Sept 25: update: went back again and it was lovely. Suggest going after the noon rush hour. Good eats and excellent service!!!

Really solid food and service. However, don't expect a nice, intimate atmosphere. Very noisy, hurried and a bit uncomfortable. Don't plan to stay very long.

If you're a breakfast lover in Waukesha, you have to check out Sunset Family Restaurant. This place has some delicious egg benedicts, and their biscuits and sausage gravy are my go-to favorites. The portions are huge and very affordable, so you definitely won't leave hungry.

But what really makes this place special is the owners and staff - they're always so friendly and welcoming, and they make you feel like part of the family. It's a great feeling to be greeted with a smile and treated so well.

All in all, I can't recommend Sunset Family Restaurant enough. It's the perfect spot for a hearty, delicious breakfast that won't break the bank, with some of the friendliest folks around. Whether you're a regular or a first-timer, you're sure to leave happy and satisfied.

This was our first time visiting this restaurant though we’d driven past it many times. The morning after Christmas was definitely packed but oddly we didn’t wait more than 15 minutes to be seated! It was obvious the staff were trying to keep up with the influx of people but we understood that it was just due to the day after a holiday, everyone wants breakfast, etc. they did great given the circumstances. I got the Mediterranean skillet which was delicious and it came with the sauce for the gyro meat. I thought it was pretty good. My husband got the meat lovers skillet…he’s kind of picky so this wasn’t his favorite version of that skillet. But he still ate it and said if we came back he’d just try something else bc they have lots of breakfast options that look good. Overall I thought this was a good family restaurant. It was clean, staff was friendly and attentive, and I really liked my food.

We both had the sausage and biscuit breakfast ($9.95) which comes with 2 eggs (any style), hash browns, an open face biscuit with tasty sausage gravy plus your choice of bacon or sausage. I chose scrambled and bacon. The bacon is thick and perfectly cooked. Eggs were perfect, too (my partner had sunny side up which are sometimes not great at a restaurant). The hash browns are the shredded variety and were fine but not overly crispy or browned. The biscuit was fresh and delicious. The gravy was good and had plenty of sausage crumbles in it.

The food was prepared quickly and served with attention to detail. It wasn’t busy because it was mid morning (around 10am) when we were there but it seemed like the kitchen and wait staff knew their jobs and did them well and could handle a rush.

The website says the place is open from 6 am until 3 pm. Not sure if that is due to Covid or their regular schedule.

Delicious. So grateful they were open on Thanksgiving! Friendly, fast service, super-clean overall (nothing fancy, though), plentiful portions, reasonable prices. We ate biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, hash browns, a Vaquero skillet, and a short stack of fluffy pancakes. Everything was hot and cooked to perfection. Visited with the staff briefly and not one person had their nose out of joint because they had to work on a holiday. We have lived in Waukesha for just over a year now, but have never eaten here before. We'll be back, for certain, to try other items on their extensive menu!

It was a busy lunch. They had a large group. Reasonably priced. Great soup and bread. Fast and attentive servers.

Great family style restaurant. Food was yummy and priced ok. Comfortable seating. Great service including refills on beverage. A Great place to relax. Only issue is a bit limited on parking.

A regular stop for breakfast. Food and service are all good. Prices are reasonable. Two thumb's up.

Great little spot that kinda has that mom and pop shop feel mixed with a bit of a Perkins or Denny's. The food was fresh and great. Really good variety on the menu, and the service came with a smile.

They were pretty busy when we got there but we were in and out in a little over an hour.

If you are in Waukesha, make sure you visit Sunset Family Restaurant. The atmosphere was friendly. The service was top notch. I recommend the Wisconsin Burger.

What great food. The place is clean and the food was so good. Plenty of parking. The service was outstanding. There was road construction in front of the place and it was hard to get into the parking lot but it was well worth it. Prices were good as well.

Huge menu, good service, excellent food. Their fresh baked rolls are amazing.

Food was amazing, but it felt like our waitress forget about us and she didn't really know what we ordered. Asked us multiple times what we ordered for drinks and food, and when we got our food or was lukewarm, but still very good. Just felt unheard and unappreciated as customers.

By far my favorite family owned breakfast joint in the Milwaukee area. Very fast and friendly service. I always sit by the front door so I can talk to the staff while I eat. I highly recommend this place. They have really good Egg's Benedict and the prices are lower than any of the major breakfast chains

The food here is great and if you have not had the fish fry,it is good. Breakfast portions are enough for 2 people.

Very clean. Hot, well seasoned, very good food. Staff was really nice, and the menu is big enough for anyone to find something. Visiting from Kentucky and most definitely would recommend.

We were looking for a family restaurant and we found it! Yes, the interior is outdated, but my kids didn't mind. My teenagers actually enjoyed it more than the overly 'modernized' stuff they see everywhere now, as do I. Besides, the service was outstanding!! So even if you don't like the booths or decor, the service and food are totally worth it! The coffee alone is worth the trip! My daughter has since gone back for coffee to get her through her some college prep work. We have become fans, and this is now our favorite spot for burgers, breakfast, and coffee. We are looking forward to checking out what else the expansive menu tastes like!
