Amazing experience from start to finish! A lovely woman took our reservation over the phone and was so friendly and lovely when we arrived. The bar is adorable- we could see a tom turkey walking in front of the windows right when we walked in! Our server was also so friendly and attentive! The food was absolutely amazing!!! We had bacon wrapped water chestnuts, ribs, salad (best ranch peppercorn ever), steaks, loaded potatoes, and the homemade chocolate silk pie!!! We can't wait to go back!

What a hidden gem... I have never been here before, but it was a 5 star experience!!!
I think literally every employee greeted us, asked us how our meal was, or had a short conversation with us. The bartender Bob was snarky & fun, Sara our server was attentive & helpful. Sue the hostess always had a smile on her face, & I was told the owner Steve was one of the chefs who was cooking our meals.

The entire staff was super friendly & THE FOOD..... it was AMAZING 😋😋

Do yourself a favor & order the bacon wrapped water chestnuts for an appetizer!!!

Great restaurant with reasonable pricing. The food quality is well worth the time and money. When you drive towards Alpine, it gives you a very "Up North" feel that gets you relaxed and ready for a get dinning experience. The building itself gives of a cozy vibe and nostalgic feel. The service is great, and the wildlife out back is always fun to see.

Mentally, I always assumed this spot was strictly German food. Wasted 5 years of not eating here on that silly thought…..

Great atmosphere. Simple layout…let the food speak for itself. Diverse menu of offerings for anyone to find something for in terms of tastes and price points. Our server Sara was on the ball and didn’t let us feel ignored or how the meal was coming in terms of timing each course.

We all love bacon wrapped water chestnuts and I must say, somehow they found a way to have the bacon crispy yet a tiny bit of pull on each bite without having the water chestnuts give up any of their crunch.

I splurged on the 16oz bone in filet which I find impossible to ever pass up when I encounter it on a menu. Seasoned simply with S&P, cooked to a perfect medium rare as asked for, and so soft and tender you could have cut it with a butter/table knife. Resting in natural juices….each bite was amazing till it was over. Even though it wasn’t paired up on the special, I added a lobster tail because it was a Monday. Super tender and not chewy like you find sometimes. I was giddy like a kid in a candy store.

The roulauden evidently meets with approval as it was said “I’d order this again without even thinking….” So take that how you want.

We split a strawberry Schaum torte was one of the best we have ever had. Height was a pint glass and a half. Crunch of the torte was loud but yet melted in your mouth each bite. The amount of strawberries and whip cream was enough to put me on a sugar overload.

I regret not coming in here before Valentine’s Day. Drove past that sign daily for 5 years. Don’t be like me. Don’t sleep on such a great place with great service and amazing food. I mean…..AMAZING food……

What a hidden gem! I have lived in the area for 20 years but had never visited. Drinks were great, service was phenomenal. Food was fantastic! My only disappointment is that I didn't go sooner! Can't wait to go back.

The food was fantastic and so was our server Michelle. We both had the steak and lobster combo with the eggplant strips to start. Will be back! Definitely recommend!!

Like stepping back in time ...German and Wisconsin supper club standards. It was hard to decide between jaegersnitztel or a perch fish fry, but certainly you'd want an old fashioned! Might be the best one in the Holy Hill area since another place down the road went down the shaft. Will come back again and again

Had a FANTASTIC first visit, a great birthday dinner. I had the surf & turf and was done absolutely perfectly, I wish I knew our servers name because she was super friendly and fast.

We go here frequently, we have never had a bad meal and the service is always great. It's not a large place but it's really lovely inside. We prefer to make reservations because of the size but they do have a nice bar to wait at.

After our original go to restraunt gave us substandard service the last couple of times we decided to try the Alpine Retreat. It was amazing! The food was excellent the service first rate and everyone was super nice. I had the Prime Rib and my wife ordered the off menu special of 18oz T Bone. Also order the Schaum Torte it is great. My only complaint was we were not offered more dinner rolls. We will be back and soon.

In a word? Stunning. The food is amazing and expertly prepared and you cannot beat the location. A classy establishment nestled in the hills surrounding Friess Lake makes the drive worth it no matter where in Wisconsin you're coming from.

Table of 12 and the waitress, I don't know her name because we were "fashionably late" and she was coy, was FANTASTIC!

We recently moved to the area and drove by the Alpine Retreat. I went home read some reviews and one person said this place was a hidden jem. It truly was. Walking in we were welcomed right away and seated. Our waitress was so attentive we need not ever flag her down. I had the stuffed pork chop, my husband and toddler had a burger and dad had sauerbraten. Everything was authentic and super delicious. We are so glad we decided to pop in for dinner.
