Sam did an outstanding job replacing the heels of my dress, leather boots. When I picked them up, they had been polished and looked like new! His prices are reasonable and Sam is very personable and kind. I highly recommend Essex Shoe Service for your repair needs.

Really, really nice owner. The flavor of the old-school, less pretentious Montclair. Came in when they were about to close and spent a lot of time trying to figure out my shoe issue. He came up with a really affordable option to test out before I had to entertain the more expensive option. Would definitely recommend!!

I've been taking shoes here for over fifteen years - by far he's the best shoe-man ever. Not only do I take my personal shoes to him, I also take shoes there from my place of employment. I work at a major regional theater located locally and over the past fifteen or more years I have taken hundreds of shoes and other leather goods to Sam for work. You know I wouldn't be doing that if his work was bad! I don't understand the negative reviews I've read on here; he's a great cobbler and I've worked with a lot. I do know that I've been in his shop and other people have come in and I'm always shocked by how rude some people are. Everyone wants their work done right that minute, as if he didn't have other customers' shoes waiting to be done. And a lot of people seem to think he shouldn't charge more than a few bucks to repair their shoes, as if he doesn't have to pay for supplies and overhead and maybe make a living, too! Some people refuse to accept that a pair of shoes is dead and can't be resurrected. Others seem to think it is appropriate to treat him as if he were their personal servant. Probably those are the people who have bad things to say about him! I find his prices fair, his attitude very helpful and his work stellar. He even gets excited about special challenges I've brought to him and helps me figure out ways to solve some of the special problems we run into with theatrical needs.

Bottom line - I love his work, I think he's a great guy and I'll keep going back as long as he's in business.

While traveling, had a zipper break on a backpack. Other places said it would be a week or replace. When I got back home, called Essex Shoe Repair...fixed it in maybe ten minutes and great price. Won me over. Will come here next time I need anything.

I've now been to this shop 3 times and have been impressed every single time. His craftsmanship and attention to detail is amazing. The level of pride he takes on his work is noticed, and most definitely appreciated. I would highly recommend visiting his shop. He even makes key copies! Also his prices are great!

Great experience at Essex Shoe Services. Phone inquiry was answered quickly, accurately, and with utmost politeness. Repair to my boots was successful, timely, and very reasonably priced. Store location is very convenient. I would recommend this place without reservation.

I grew up here and now live in GA. Need new heels on my shoes and he did them while I waited. As I watched him work, I noticed how much care he gave my shoes. Walked away feeling like I just got a new pair of shoes. Will be back for Class Reunion next month and will bring my other pairs shoes with me. Expectations and customer service blew me away. Rare find and glad he is still in business.

You give him your worn shoes and he returns to you brand new shoes. My wife has recommended him to family and friends for woman shoes as well. He also carries shoe accessories. He down sized from his bigger place on Bloomfield and Park but he's still in Downtown Business District. Use him once and you will be back time and time again.

Best shoemaker ever. Sam has fixed zippers on jackets, belts, and countless pairs of shoes for my entire family for many years. He is an absolute wizard for all wardrobe needs.

Surprisingly very fast service! Needed the heels replaced on boots and was able to pick them up the next day! Very affordable and great customer service. I will be back for any future shoe repair needs.

This place is great. I've been bringing my shoes there for years and I have never had any issues with the service provided. This guy is extremely accommodating and very honest when it comes to any repairs.
