This is a beautiful, peaceful, and fairly easy hiking trail with history. There are still remnants of the old railroad bed and also the old factory that used to sit on the land. It's very unfortunate that someone has vandalized the history here with graffiti. The springs are beautiful, and this is a great place for bird watching! Years ago, I even spotted a river otter here! I do not believe dogs are allowed on this trail, but I have seen people walking them there.

A nice hike with mixed terrain, historical landmarks, and plenty of wildlife. If you're in the area camping or at Ottawa lake, this short hike is also worth your time!

Enjoyable little trail through the woods with a lot of different land marks. You can pick up a map at the beginning to see some of the history and scenic points along the trail. It is fascinating to watch the springs bubbling up in the ponds. The trail is on the shorter side, but still beautiful none the less.

One of the best nature trails in the Kettle Moraine. I've been here countless times to hike and birdwatch, as its diversity of terrain keeps it from ever getting old. It's pretty popular at all times of the day all year long, so not always the most quiet place to observe nature, but it's always good for a moderate hike.

A major problem of late is the vast number of people who blatantly ignore the NO PETS rule and bring their dogs - leashed and even often unleashed. It seems that nearly a quarter of visitors just ignore the rules since the DNR does nothing to enforce this rule. This is a state wildlife refuge, not a city park, LEAVE YOUR DOG AT HOME!

This has been one of my favorite places to hike since I was a kid. It's still so cool to get the southern end of the loop to find the big springs and old building.

The paths are wide and well maintained, but watch out for tree roots that can trip you. The beginning of the path is pretty flat and may be good for those needing accessibility for mobility equipment, but as you get farther in the path becomes a bit hilly and uneven.

On a recent hike, my daughter and I were startled by a big common watersnake crossing the path nearly under our feet. We stopped freaking out in time to watch it stop for a moment then slither into the brush and on its way - so cool!

Nature hike that will refresh your soul! We came in November when it was cold so there wasn’t much foliage but it was still beautiful. Natural springs of water, clear trail head, variety of meadows, forest, brush, boardwalk and more.

Love this trail, one of our favorites! Beautiful and scenic, relaxing. The trails are not strenuous. Some spots in the trail are very narrow though so even a bike stroller won't fit. If you have a little one, bring a wearable baby carrier. And check for ticks after you leave, we picked up A LOT of them on our last visit...

Lovely hike, mix of boardwalks, paths, hills, and a long, flat portion that can be walked in isolation suitable for any hiker.

The state park across the street provides facilities, but the trailhead has none.

Awesome and easy hike for beginners. Took an 8 year old and she had a blast leading us. The springs and views were great. Saw 2 other people total. No dogs or horses contrary to other reviews, but we saw someone with a dog. Yes we paid across the street and ended up buying the full year pass, $28 vs the single visit @ $8. We will be doing more hikes and are excited to see more of Wisconsin and get outdoors!

Haven't been hiking on the trails for approximately 8 years. Noticed that oak trees were starting to regrow in the area where the majority of oak trees had died off in the highest elevation area. It was very encouraging to see. But then I noticed along with my wife that later in the trail someone was obviously not knowledgeable about what a buckthorn looked like. Cutting down perfectly healthy oak trees. Please stop cutting down oak trees!

Beautiful place 😍 wild raspberries all over, an amazing prairie and gorgeous forest. I was hiking for hours and still didn't see all of it. Make sure to grab a trail map before you head on in! Bug spray is a must
