Recently, I was at Peaks of Otter to do some hiking. While there myself along with several other people, were trying to find a restroom that was open. The one at Sharp Top was closed. The one at the visitor center was closed, so I thought I'd try the one at the lodge restaurant, and that was closed also. So the call of nature had to be answered in the woods. A port-a- john somewhere up there would have been nice. However, the lodge looks like it would be a great place to visit if it was open. There is a nice lake behind it. The scenery there is beautiful. I give the place 5 stars on the looks of it alone. Maybe it will be open the next time I'm in the area and I can check the place out. I bet they have nice restrooms also.

Peaks of Otter is a lovely area! The views from lake by the lodge of Sharp Top mountain are spectacular. The grounds around the lodge are always manicured. You don’t have to stay at the lodge to walk the grounds. However the lodge has nice rooms and the restaurant and bar are cozy. You can take a bus ride to up Sharp Top or a medium effort hike to the top for some awesome views! It’s easy to get to from the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia.

You absolutely can’t go wrong with the Peaks of Otter Lodge, especially in the Fall! Everything is naturally so beautiful and the food was delicious! It wasn’t too crowded at all, even with many rooms being filled, it was still very enjoyable. We came on a Friday and was told the food is extra good on the weekends, and it most certainly was! I got the Appalachian Grilled Cheese with Tomato Soup, and I’d get it 10 more times if I could. My grandfather got the brisket and said it was one of the best sandwiches he’d had! The lodge itself is beautiful, and the downstairs is a neat area to hang out before going outside to enjoy the activities there are to offer there. All of the staff we were so welcoming! We will definitely be back. It’s always our favorite place to visit!

The grounds are beautiful! We got a ground floor room and I could walk out and be at the lake in less than 200 feet! They had Adirondack chairs along the lake to sit and a nice outdoor fireplace at night. We went to the restaurant for dinner and it was really good!

Off the grid (electronic) and well worth the money. Get away from it all. The lodge is served with an exceptional local staff. This is the place where you go to get away from it all. Natural beauty in nature's wonderland. This is the type of lodge experience where you need to spend a week or more at with side trips to many different and interesting locations. Peak leaf change of seasons appears to be a very busy time for them. Plan accordingly.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at the lodge. The check-in process was a breeze, and the best part was that every room had a stunning view of the lake. The location is perfect for leisurely walks around the lake or more adventurous hikes to Sharp Top. Dinning at the lodge restaurant was a delight - delicious food accompanied by breathtaking lake views. Highly recommended.

The staff was amazingly helpful, from the front desk to the bar to the housekeeping, they were all very kind, knowledgeable and pleasant. Good help is hard to find these days, so to find such an amazing staff when the Lodge is shut down for the winter months is truly incredible. Keep up the quality service people, it’s working!

PS: If you are over 40 and in less than peak shape, consider taking the shuttle to the summit of Sharp Top! That climb in no joke😂😓😂

We loved the natural beauty and peacefulness of the lodge. Our room was large and very clean. The bed was wonderful! Breakfast was fabulous, lunch and dinner offered plenty of variety, and the bar was staffed by a very talented bartender! We enjoyed both the 1m trail walk around the lake as well as the more strenuous and longer mountain trail hikes. It’s a very relaxing place, bring a good book as well as your walking shoes. Evenings by the fire pit beside the lake were a wonderful end to our memorable days here. We will definitely come again!

Peaks of Otter is an excellent place to unwind and recharge your “battery”. Everything about the Lodge was excellent.
We were comfortable and able to relax. The views were very special and the food was perfect. There is a very nice gift shop as well. We encountered no problems and would recommend Peaks of Otter to anyone.

My husband and I just did a quick weekend getaway. We first went to natural bridge and then had a short drive south to peaks of otter. We ended up picking this place online due to the reviews. They didn't lie!

This was an awesome spot to stay. It is so peaceful, right on the lake, pet friendly, and had its own restaurant. The burger with pimento cheese, according to my husband was amazing!!! I had the chicken and it was equally delicious. We had a king suite w it's own balcony and it faced the lake. Very clean and had great water temperature. It is right next to the sharp top mountain trail to give you great views if you are up to a tough climb. We didn't end up making the full trail but still enjoyed our stay. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The views of the lake and beautiful night stars and happy deer around the property made it a great location. We hope to come back to soon! The lake has a trail all the way around it too. Not to mention to get here you take 43, the Blue Ridge Parkway which had beautiful views and places to pull off and have a great photo opportunity.

We cannot say more positive things about our stay. We cannot wait to go back! 5 stars 🌟

The location is amazing, right along the Blue Ridge Parkway, the room rates reasonable, especially considering the location, the property has a pretty decent restaurant. The views are gorgeous, the fire pit was a delight to hang out around, and chat with other guests, I just wish I had s'mores ingredients. Star gazing once you get a few steps away from the building is some of the best night skies I've ever seen.

This place is a hidden gem for sure! I took my family there over the past weekend and POO did not disappoint. The only constructive criticism I could offer is to step up the quality of the dinners. The service was excellent, the view was nothing short of amazing, the drink selection was great, BUT, the food wasn't up to par with pricing. All in all, our experience was amazing and we plan on making this a yearly trip before the little one goes to school every year.

The lodge is situated on a beautiful lake. The staff are friendly. I think Monday - Friday is buffet only breakfast and grab and go lunches. The weekends have full menus. They are closed during the winter but it's a great place to eat and stay. If you are driving up the Blue Ridge parkway it's a must stop. Bonus tip. On the other side of the dam is a pathway along the stream that goes for about 15 minutes or so down and is really pretty. There are a couple of places where you have to actually walk on the road where the trail is really overgrown but you can pick it back up below the vehicle entrance road.

Views are unbelievable! We were there for four nights. Enjoyed walking around the lake. Jake, our shuttle driver to Sharp Top Mountain, was friendly and knowledgeable. It was so relaxing and looking forward to returning.

I go up to walk the lake with my girls. It's beautiful up there. Plus there is Sharp Top and Flat Top you can hike. Plus there are trails ypu can walk as well. The picnic area is great as well. I've never camped or stayed at the lodge or eaten at the restaurant. They do have a nice little gift shop I've visited several times. I only live 30 minutes away. I just love going up there to get out of the city.

Just happened upon this place during our trip to Virginia. Amazingly beautiful. The rooms have a window unit unit a/c which struggled a bit to cool the room. The room was large, the bed was comfortable, and the view was perfect. Took the shuttle to Sharp Top Mountain. Thank you Cindy for a great ride. We didn't realize you would be dropped off and expected to hike the remaining 1500 feet to the top. Luckily we were prepared (for a spur of the moment decision to go). The hike was good and the reward was GREAT. Highly recommend doing this!!! Can't wait to visit again!!

The stay was awesome, the beautiful night view of the lake mountain and sky is one of the best I’ve seen.
The lodge staff were very friendly. The rooms clean and neat, easy parking.
Love the trails.
Food was great.
Tough lake to fish. Quit challenging.
The grounds were extremely clean and neat.

The Peaks of Otter Lodge is a beautiful place to stay. It is a very peaceful and relaxing place to spend some time and the scenery is stunning! Our room was very comfortable, though not fancy. The folks were very friendly and helpful. The only drawback for us was that the restaurant in the lodge was too overpriced. We ate one dinner and one breakfast there but after that, we drove into Bedford for supper and ate muffins with coffee in our room for breakfast. Besides that, we loved it there and had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay.

The rooms are OK. But you're not going for the rooms, you're going for the scenery and the peacefulness of the property, and you won't be disappointed there. Enjoying dinner with a lake and mountain view followed by a short walk around the lake during a sunset is a perfect way to spend an evening. If you're in the area or driving the parkway, I would highly recommend staying a night, maybe two.
