Peaks of Otter Recreation Area

Beautiful area. Been coming here ever since I was little. I recommend hiking to the summit of Flat Top, it’s a lot less crowded than Sharp Top.

Beautiful and relaxing atmosphere! Will return very soon. Highly recommend this place for couples to just enjoy being together surrounded by amazing views.

A so beautiful and peaceful small lake with stunning view in Autumn season. A mile trail around lake provide you with different view points of the lake. I’d highly recommend peaks of Otter lake one of the must stop spot of Blue Ridge Parkway

We wanted to start at the fallingwater parking, but the Parkway was closed. Totally understandable, but I got confused where the other trails and parking were since my plan had changed. Cell service was pretty bad down by the parking areas and lodge, so definitely either bring a saved copy or snag one by the visitor center because you might not be able to Google if you have to reorient! We went in January and got there early - we were one of the very first cars. Everything was locked up tight and closed. Unsure if it just opened later or was closed due to the season, but just heads up, even the bathrooms were locked.

My 7 year old managed the Flat Top trail up and down, although it is a little steep for the younger hikers. Not crowded at all. We throughly enjoyed ourselves and will absolutely be back when the Parkway is open again!

This is a great place to come and get away from the city for a bit. It's quiet and has a walking area that goes around the lake. It's pretty easy to practice social distancing here as well. The drive up is quite pretty since it is on the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. Lots of overlooks on the way for gorgeous views and great pictures. Definitely a nice escape during these strange times we find ourselves in.

Great day trip from Roanoke. If you like to hike a must go. There are several trails, some are a little challenging. Take plenty of water and pack a lunch or snack. Hike to the top of the peaks for an amazing view!! Allow several hours to hike, especially if it has been a while. Coming down is faster of course! Plenty of parking, restrooms available in the parking lot. Peaks of Otter Lodge and restaurant there as well and a campground. They do offer a shuttle service to the top of the epaks for a fee. Saw a lot of wildlife, White tail deer, skinks, birds. Amazing views. Great hike.

The weather & colorful leaves on the trees was truly awesome reflecting off the pond. Such a great place to enjoy.

Always such a beautiful place to visit. Quiet, friendly guests and sightseers. Love seeing all 4 seasons here and always amazing lunch and dinner at the restaurant. The walking trail is really nice and handicap accessible with many little hidden spots to stop, sit down and rest and take in all the natural beauty.

Can't get enough of this place. There's just something peaceful about it. Great hikes with beautiful views within footsteps from the lodge. Then after you're done you can enjoy good food and drinks lakeside at the lodge looking up at Sharp Top mountain. And if you keep your eyes open, you'll get to see the otters playing around the island of the lake - always a welcome sight.

This was a great place to stay. The area is peaceful and scenic. The room was bssic, but bed was comfortable. Loved sitting i. The balcony and looking out over the lake. Restaurant was good, super friendly servce. Lots of birds around the lake. Some turtles and tons of deer. This is a place I'm ready planning a return trip too.

This place is amazing! Pet friendly, 🐶 every room has a lake view. 😍 on site restaurant… food was delicious. Blackberry ice cream pie is a MUST. The summit hike view is worth every step.

There is a camp store here and picnic areas behind - you can hike the 1.5 hr to the top of Sharp Top mountain or pay $15 to take a bus/van almost to the top. The bus comes by every hour and a half, and there's still a bit of a walk to the top, so once you've gone up and back, you can catch the next bus down the mountain. I arrived at 10:40, at almost the same time as the bus, and I would have a return time of about 12:15, so it takes a bit of time, you can't just take the bus to the top and back.

A beautiful scenic jem hidden up in the hills of Bedford. Wonderful trails, cute looking lodging, was unable to see the visitors center due to the virus but plenty of trails and walkways to wander. Lovely hidden picnic tables along a lovely creek, perfect for an afternoon lunch.

This is a beautiful place alongside the Blue Ridge Parkway. Nice rooms with a view of the lake, comfy bed and a nice getaway from technology. Their Lodge has a nice bar and restaurant with good food. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They have great camping and picinic areas nearby. A nice walkway around the lake is great after breakfast. Also if you have the footware and endurance for it, you can hike up Sharp Top. We had a great time here.

My favorite relaxing place to go. On a scale of 1 to 10 I rate it 9. I find it a bit pricey considering there was no fridge, micro wave, hair dryer or telephone.

Great recreation area, hiking trails, Peaks of Otter Lodge and lake across the street, with gorgeous views. Highly recommend!

This was the best year for fall foliage so far. This area is beautiful for walking, relaxing, hiking and photography.

Peaks of Otter is beautiful and perfect for everyone. There's a lodge, a restaurant and a campground. You can walk around the lake or hike up to the peak. Or, just sit in one of the Adirondack chairs and relax.

Great location and a nice ride up on the parkway. It worth the trip. When the lodge is open you can go right in for a meal. They have good meat and vegetarian options.
