High Bridge Trail

Great views from the bridge which is 125 feet above the Appomattox. I recommend parking at the river road parking area if u want a shorter walking distance to the bridge and access to information center. The trail is an old railroad bed and good for bikes , horses and walking.

My first time here, the State of Virginia and those who donate to the trails for the high bridge are doing great, perserving the bridge and trails.

Beautiful trail for biking. Fairly easy and low grade incline. The packed gravel is great for biking and hiking. We started off in Farmville at the bike rental shop entrance and biked over the High Bridge through the high bridge state park area and over to Rice. Round trip was about 16 miles. We ended our trip with a frosty beer at Three Roads Brewery. Lovely place. Weather was 70 and perfect! Would definitely go again!

High Bridge Trail State park is truly unique experience. The crossing over the Appomattox river and the view from such a great height surrounded by trees all around. Post restoration trail is open for public after 147 years after the battle of High Bridge. Trail itself is some 30 miles long. These are from 2018 or so. Do check details on park opening. We haven’t seen the firefly festival there but I hear it’s amazing site. Be sure to pack enough water, food as it’s a good hike from parking spot where we were.

This is a great hike. Make sure you go under the bridge, too. If you are a railfan like I am then you should also plan to hike the Claudius Crozet Blue Ridge Tunnel in the same day.

Among many great rails-to-trails hikes, this is surely one of the best. The High Bridge is truly unique, with an incredible view of the surroundings. My wife and I went on a glorious fall day, with beautiful weather, clear sky and autumn color all around. A great afternoon experience. The trail is flat so that hikers of all abilities are able to enjoy it. Definitely worth the visit!

Absolutely magnificent. Incredible 125 feet up and 2,400 miles across. What a sensational bridge. The trail stretches 38 miles. Horse, cyclists, walkers have plenty to see & enjoy here.

We are happy there is a unique attraction in this area. They cut the grass along the trail. Yeah!
I hope they cut back the trees hanging down over the path on the path part behind the LOVE sign (near Green Front Furniture)

It is very well maintained with sightings of Rangers, clean bathrooms and not crowded.

Spectacular park. Nice walks and view from the bridge is great. Really good cycling routes too. You can get all the way from Farmsville.

Fantastic views! It's just under a mile from the 555 river road entrance. There is a five dollar parking fee at that site. Worth the trip if you're in Farmville

Great rail trail restoration. Beautifully done down town crossing and with cafes. Trail surface is graded well and several stopping areas. Also notice a new welcome center is being built. Virginians should be proud of all the bike trail your state has.

This trail is 31 miles long, but has many entrance points and restrooms. It is mostly rather flat. The high point of the trail (pun intended) is the bridge, of course. There are a few lookout areas on both sides along the length of the bridge. The bridge has railings that are about 5 or so feet tall and benches on which to rest. Horses, dogs, and bicycles are allowed on the path.

Bike, walk, or ride your horse on the High Bridge Trail! I can't wait to come back in the fall when the leaves are off the trees!

Beautiful bridge on a beautiful trail. The bridge is wide and accommodating to walkers and bicyclists. Magnificent views from the bridge. There are several places along the bridge to step out of regular 'traffic' and sit, take pictures, or just enjoy the day.

Great park, the bridge offers a beautiful view. The Rangers are friendly and knowledgeable and offer more depth.

Good trail. It a fine gravely trail. The high bridge is .5 mi long with great views. Farmville is the halfway point. 32 MI R/T in each direction.

Love it! Not far from where I live so it's amazing view from the High Bridge will leave you speechless! It starts in Burkeville , VA and continues West through the town of Farmville and ends in Pamplin , VA ( fairly long..to enjoy a walk or bike and horseback riding! Also you can rent kayaks and bikes in the town of Farmville located very close to the trail.. Enjoy

The bridge and overall trail design is awesome. This time of year there isn't much to see on the trail because the trees and vines are so dense. Great place for an easy flat ride!

One of our favorite local hikes. We are ready for the visitor center to be built. We went under the bridge on the trail. My second time in that area. It can be muddy, but it's an adventure.

Great place for walking and bike riding. Beautiful scenery along the trail. Very peaceful not strenuous. Family friendly ❤
