I have no idea how folks could rate this anything below a 4. This is a place to be respected. A remnant of the homes of scrub jays. Humans have taken over so much and this is one of the few places left for nature to thrive.

Great educational indoor area with live animals! The trails are clean and marked super easy to follow and they're dog friendly 🐕‍🦺

We took the trail in search of geos. We had a great time in the cool weather and finally found what we were looking for. 😀

The rest of the world disappears when you're out on the trails.

Great trail but they honestly need to do a better job on putting more signs showing where the trail is. Coming the from the parking lot of the library you get to a green pavilion and there's two directions you can go, left or right or back. The path on the right takes you to the trail but there's no sign there other than don't feed the scrub Jays. The left path however takes you on a path that let's you walk the border of the entire preserve. There's no signs showing you are not on the trail nor any signs showing you this way to the trail. There are some rights you can make but that's about it, no signs. So if you are like me and oblivious to the fact that you're not on the actual trail you'll end up walking up tons of giant steep hills through the path to a path leading behind residents homes and then it starts getting really wild cause they haven't dinwiddle maintance to the path in a while so vegetation starts to take over. Eventually it got so bad you couldn't walk any further because the vegitation was too high and deep and I had my daughter and wife with me and didn't want to risk running through high shrubs and weeds that ants, spiders and snakes could easily hide in. So we turned around after about an hour or more into it. It was hot and I was tired, I looked on Google maps and used the satellite view to see where we were and realized this wasn't the actual trail, about halfway on the way back I took a right and made it to the middle of the blue trail. At this point my party was exhausted, including myself so we went up to the red trail and made it back as fast as possible. We were delighted to see the actual trails had signs and markers all over, and some benches in between, but once we got back to the green pavilion we turned and confirmed there are no signs at all showing which is the opening to the white (rusty) lyonia trail and which is the wrong path.

The trail was nice but this blunder can really cost someone the trip. I'm lucky we turned around when we did cause we were halfway around the entire preserve and could barely make the trip back when we turned around due to the steep hills and the heat. Hopefully someone will read this before going and won't make the shame mistake unless you're up for the challenge and have a weed whacker and high boots on you.

Flooded in some spots, but mostly passable and enjoyable. Little shade though.

I agree with most of the reviews on here, it's beautiful and nice and open but poor directions and trail markings, take the wrong one and you'll walk around the place like I did, I walked around almost the whole plot and I went on a 70ish degree day and it was blazing hot because temps are 10% hotter in the preserve there is little shade and the sand makes it brighter and hotter and depending on where you are in it the library is far

This was an easy pleasant hike. Although the trails are somewhat marked they can be difficult to follow. There are some unmarked intersections making it hard to decide which path to take.

Went here to hike and train our service dog in training. Allegedly there are no dog signs, must have missed them though. Library Security kicked us out. Odd, because every other time we’ve been here with cub scouts, we see people with small dogs.

Suggestion- maybe say it’s not dog friendly on the webpage. Save folks a drive.
