Taqueria El Mercadito

I believe this taqueria is the best price for the amount of food you get. The price is great for the huge tacos you get! The service is fast.

They just do not open everyday of the week.

It was our first visit that solidified the fact that it most certainly won't be our last! The food was as authentic as it was DELICIOUS!!! And my wife had been "desperate" for REAL Mexican food!

Best overall experience as soon as you walk in! Everyone is so nice and the food is soo good and it’s quick! I love the tacos, quesadilla the steak is soft and tender not like other taco places where the meat is dry. You MUST try the flan!!! It is absolutely delicious (I tried it freshly made and they were warm and they were even better!) it reminds me of a taqueria I used to go to when I lived in California. A must try if your ever in Gainesville!

Great authentic Mexican spot. The tacos are much bigger than you would expect and great for the price. I can normally handle four but I had leftovers after three. They give you a lot of meat and a lot of different options than you would even find at other taco spots. Carnitas and al pastor were my favorite but make sure to ask about the other options.

Even the menu board is super well organized. It makes it easy to quickly decide what you want.

It's funny to see bad reviews from people claiming this isn't authentic. This is about as authentic as you can get outside of Mexico. The critics probably think an authentic taco is a crunchy corn tortilla, ground beef, lettuce, tomato, and shredded cheddar cheese.

I have one issue, and that is the "al pastor" isn't really "al pastor". It's marinated pork. Al pastor means it comes from a trompo, similar to doner kebab and shawarma. And I didn't see a trompo here. Regardless, their marinated pork tacos were quite good. As were the others. I got carnitas and carne asada.

And these tacos are restaurant-sized, not the little 3.5" street tacos.

An a huge fan of authentic tacos and this place is about as real as it gets.

The El pastor is to die for!!

They take cash and card, and the staff is friendly and welcoming.

10/10 will eat there again.

This place has the BEST tacos de carnitas in town. This place is great and the owner knows how to customize your food the way you prefer. Good vegetarian options too!! I go here 2-3 times a week.

If you are thinking on break the diet this the place to do it,the tacos are amazing and the flan is to die for it.

Okay this place top top notch. I have never received dry or tasteless food. I would recommend 100%. Sometimes the cashier is having an off day and gives you attitude which sucks but I will take the stink eye any day for some of their tacos.

Loved the food here. Tortillas taste freshly made. They make fresh salsa, with different heat levels. I had two steak tacos which was enough to make me full. The burritos are big. Good prices too.

This place is lit. I followed them from when they had a place on Atlanta Hwy. The tacos are addictive and the burrito is too. You can customize anything​on the menu too so there's an option for Veggie and Meat lovers. Five stars for great food, and service.

This is hands down the best burrito in town. I had the Burrito Supremo de pollo. I was going to order the quesadillas as well, but the cashier told me that I should not order both because the portions were so large. He could have just sold it to me, but he did not. It was refreshing to see someone who is not just greedy. I recommend everyone go to this place, especially if you like Mexican food. Taqueria El Mercadito is my new favorite place to eat. Authenticity matters!! Authentic cuisine and authentic people is what this place offers.

They make the best tortas in town (and I've tried them all!) Gabriel is friendly and the salsa bar is freshly made. It was rocking when we were in with lots of folks soaking up the good eats.

I love this place! If you're looking for simple food that is consistently good, well priced and made by people who care about each item- this is it. I've been three times and had a burrito, taco and torta- all carne asada- and they were great. The owner mistakenly hit a wrong button or something and a burrito I ordered was put in the register as three tacos. It was for my son so I asked them to change it. No problem, no attitude, no hurt feelings- just professional and courteous "Sorry we'll fix it." I was completely surprised when they brought out the burrito AND the $1.22 price difference in cash. The owner said they have another location or they had another location and this is an upgrade. I recommend this restaurant but also want to keep this as one of my "off the radar" spots. So, just keep this between us.... :-)
also- PRICE: this place has good prices. The burrito for five dollars is a bargain. The torta for five dollars is a bargain. The owner below defending his prices is being courteous but unnecessarily so. There is room for you to charge more and anyone who wants taco bell prices can find them at taco bell.

The moment I walked in the door I was greeted and they were very friendly and kind. I must say my experience here was fantastic best tacos I’ve ever had and they have all the toppings you need separate at a bar and at no cost unlike other places

Good place to have a quick bite. 2 dollar tacos and pretty big too. Don't forget they close on Wednesdays. The drinks are self served and they have a condiments bar where you get your onions, peppers,etc..
