We brought our 17 yr old dog in late Saturday night for a medical emergency. The kindness, concern, professionalism, and empathy shown by Dr Mick and the rest of the staff was above and beyond what we could have hoped for. We'll be forever grateful for the compassion and love shown to Sadie, and us, in her final hours. We paid less than I expected for an ER visit in the middle of the night. The exam rooms are clean and comfortable and the comfort room we were in when we said our goodbyes was absolutely perfect.

Could not recommend this Emergency Vet more!! Had to come in close to midnight due to our old boy having a prolonged seizure. The staff is quick to act in an emergency and so incredible kind!! When the doctor came in he led with kindness, possible solutions, and didn’t harp on the negative. Was straight forward when answering question and empathetic when we decided to put him down. Again can’t say enough how kind and gentle the staff were. We got a private room to say goodbye ❤ a few days later we received this card in the mail. Such kind people work here and it shows how much they not only care about your pet but also you ❤

I hope the staff reads the reviews! I wish I could remember the names of the two nurses that helped with intake and the doctor. Thank you so much for your kindness in a time of fear and sadness. Your attitudes, actions, and reassurance made putting down our sweet 17 year old black lab down as easy as it could be ❤

I had a very good experience here last night! My dog, a chihuahua, got attacked by a neighbors pitbull that jumped over the fence in the afternoon while I was walking my dog on the leash. After the attack my dog seemed shocked but she wasn’t bleeding or anything. After I got back from work I realised she was in much pain and screaming everytime I lightly pet her. So I called an emergency vet at Mission, KS to ask for advise and the lady told me to come immediately which I did. After a 40 min drive around midnight now a rude lady at the front desk told me that my dog doesn’t need “immediat attention” and they won’t check on her at this time. I would have been fine to wait with a not bleeding dog although their waiting area was almost empty. But she pretty much kicked me out and told me to “try my luck” at the emergency vet in overland park, which I then did. She probably wasn’t seeing the big dollar signs since my dog is just a little chihuahua or something like that. After another 20 min drive I arrived at Overland park.

When I entered here, the 2 ladys at the front desk asked what brought me in. I explained what happened being absolutely exhausted and in tears, worrying about my dog Taffy. They took my case very serious and I handed Taffy over to a vet tech not even a minute later after I arrived. She was immediately taken to an exam room while I was filling out their papers with mine and my dogs information. Their location was way busier than the one in Missin. Of course I waited awhile but I really didn’t care I know Taffy was well taken care of in the exam room and I’m sure other dog owners that got there before me had worse cases. Thank the lord she didn’t have any fractures and they gave me some medicine for a probably pinched nerve that is causing her pain. Of course she is not absolutely fine a day later but this in non of their staffs fault. The price for this entire procedure was absolutely reasonable and my neighbor just paid me back for the vet costs that I had here. All in all they are very very caring and huge shoutout to the 2 ladys at the front desk working last night. They told me multiple times that it was good that I came, that a dog attack is 1 priority for them although she wasn’t bleeding. I really admire them for being sooooo friendly at 3 in the morning and I hope they will read this review and will know how thankful I am!

I would drive the extra miles anytime from now on and come to overland park instead of Mission incase of an emergency!

Thank you to the entire team!!!

AMAZING!! Thank you, thank you, thank you. Dr. Houghton and all of the medical and reception staff ARE AMAZING! My cat Oswald and I went for a visit bright and early Christmas morning and I am so very thankful and impressed. The level of care and compassion given is completely out of this world!! With active vomiting he was triaged and taken back within minutes. I knew he was a priority and felt so reassured that he was getting the best care possible. Thankfully he just needed a big drink and a really big poop (but ya know, blood tinged vomit on your pillow at 1 am can make you a little anxious). I appreciate all you have done to put my mind at ease. I am so grateful to have you all in the world taking care of all of the little Heartbeats that need you. ❤

Wednesday morning my poor baby had a stroke, we took her in right away and they immediately took her back. We waiting in a private room and the vet came in explaining what had happened. Her quality of life was declining so she helped us make the decision to euthanize. We took her home and for the next 24 hours we got to say goodbye to our sweet girl. We brought her in Thursday afternoon and we were shown to a little room. It was peaceful and quiet and we got to say goodbye in the best way possible. All of the staff members were extremely helpful and supportive through this difficult time. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Thank you.

Overall, good. Not happy with the results of the visit, but that's far from the employees or facility's fault(s). It just means the predicted greatly shortened time to have BOTH of my girls with me will be used to the absolute fullest. Never thought the asthmatic one would outlive her sister, but it's likely. Anyway. As for pricing goes, it's cheaper than I thought it would be. Higher than my local rural vet? Naturally, as my local rural vet does not have all of the capabilities of a "big city" emergency vet. The reception and care shown to my Posie was deeply appreciated. Again, not happy to come away with a not-great answer to this morning's situation that prompted an hour 30/45 one way trip, but I am also glad to at least HAVE an answer and a plan. Dr. Richard was very good and straightforward, which I prefer, but also very personable. Knowledgeable as well. Waiting room is spacious and pleasant, vending machines & coffee maker, the remembrance candles on the counter a thoughtful touch. The bathrooms left a little bit to be desired, but A) It's a Sunday and B) I'd rather time be spent working with patients and their humans, and C) There's extra supplies in the cabinet of at least one of the 2. The whole plan is to NOT have to use an emergency vet, but thankful this one exists and it will be my "go-to" for whenever the need arises.

Brought my best friend in at 10:30PM on a Chief’s AFC championship game day. Got great service after a slight wait, which should be expected anywhere. Was back home and comfortably in bed with my dog at 2:30AM, with all the medication and direction I needed to put my mind at ease; for a good price, nonetheless. Thank you for all that you do.

It's taken me a month to make this post, but I wanted to leave a review on here and thank the wonderful team at this vet. Little Man was seen immediately and we were given all the time needed to make decisions about what to do for him. They made sure he had a catheter so he wouldn't be in pain while in their care. They let me spend as much time as I needed with him before he passed peacefully. They told me how sorry they were, and they were so kind to my fiancé, myself, and my cat most importantly. They made sure he was taken care of and treated with respect especially after he was gone. I can't thank them enough for being there on one of the hardest days of my life. Please continue to give this amazing care to others who need it. Again, thank you for everything.

All staff from the front desk to the assistants and the veterinarian were so helpful. You could tell they all cared about animals. They explained options of treatment to us so we could make an informed decision. I felt the prices were reasonable considering it was emergency care. I would definitely return if needed.

Huge thank you to the caring and considerate staff that helped my cat, Gojo, rest easy. The doctor, tech and receptionist were all very empathetic and I’m glad that I got to share my final moments with my old boy in such a safe space.

Drove almost an hour at 11 pm to get my sweet 10 year old cat seen after discovering an open wound on her. The staff was so kind and understanding. The doctor explained everything well and took the time to let me know that the diagnosis was different than what we initially though. Everyone was so sweet to my girl and are still very helpful if/when I call with questions.

Saturday night our sweet, German shepherd gave us quite a scare, and we made an emergency visit to our primary veterinarian. Our veterinarian diagnosed our German Shepherd with GDV and let us know that if surgery was not done within a few hours he would not make it and referred us to Overland Park Veterinary Emergency and Specialty. Our primary vet called Overland Park Veterinary Emergency and Specialty clinic and let them know what was going on as well as we were on our way. As soon as we arrived at the clinic they rushed out to our car to get our sweet boy back to check vitals and start him on fluids. They then called us back to let us know what was going on and what would happen during the procedure they did let us see him before he going into surgery. After surgery, the doctor did come out and explain what she had done during the procedure. It was a very scary day for my husband and I and as soon as we walked in the door, they made us feel welcome. From the front staff to the surgical team everyone was very friendly. I would highly recommend this clinic for any emergency vet visits you may need!

Arrived a bit before 10am and was out about 11:30! We were lucky they weren’t busy. Both receptionists did not greet or look at us and I had to speak first…twice. Once I had their attention, a tech came out and took our dog back to assess and I was shown into a room. Vet came in about 30 minutes later to let me know what was wrong and offer options. Very helpful and not pushy with options. Very much appreciated. We opted for X-rays, fluids and
An anti nausea shot. Pricy, yes, but the tech and vet were great. I watched other techs and a different vet interact with owners and was impressed. Very genuine. Highly recommend this emergency clinic.

I called OPVES before I brought my dog in. They were very upfront and honest about the expected wait and process. I really appreciated knowing this before I came in. Everyone was professional, compassionate and friendly. They treated everyone that was in the facility that night with respect and empathy. Dr Thorn saw my dog. She was extremely professional and kind. She delivered difficult news with empathy and kindness. The entire staff was excellent.

I am so grateful for the wonderful care and compassion we received at your hospital. Dr Melissa Allen and Dr Grigsby were amazing. We knew our dog was in the best of hands. Whenever I called to check on our sweet boy, the front desk was always quick to connect us with someone who could provide an update. We are devastated at the diagnosis but find comfort in knowing that we had a team of vet techs and doctors who were giving our fur baby the best care possible.

Very comforting, professional, and gently instructive staff helped our family navigate through the painful process of losing our first pet, and not being sure how to move forward with the resulting tough decisions. Thank you for providing a pleasant experience during a difficult time!

This clinic was recommended by our previous vet and friend and we were not disappointed. The wait was long which is to be expected at an emergency clinic. When we were seen we felt the care was very good. We were also pleased with the communication/updates as we had to leave our cat for the treatment he required. I would highly recommend. They clearly care very much about good treatment. We thank you! 🐾

On March 03, 2023 I brought my dog here because her abdomen became swollen, she could barely stand, and was very lethargic. She was not able to get out of the car, so a tech brought out a gurney and gently placed her on it, wheeled her back to the exam room (where she was examined immediately), and I was escorted to a private consultation room.

Following an ultrasound I received devastating news that she had a cancerous tumor on her spleen that ruptured, causing internal bleeding (hemangiosarcoma). The veternarian gave me two options, including surgery with follow up chemo and radiation, or euthanasia, which she recommended, as she might not survive the surgery; additionally, the chemo and radiation might give her another few weeks of life, with no quality of life. Rather than put my baby through such an invasive surgery I elected to have her euthanised at the clinic.

I appreciate the compassionate honesty the vet and their entire staff showed during this traumatic time in my life. Since everything happened so fast and I did not have time to mentally digest what was happening, they easily could have preyed on my weakness and insisted on expensive surgery that would have benefitted them, rather than my dog. Nobody at the facility rushed me into making a decision, letting me have all the time I needed to cry, call family, or otherwise deliberate what to do next.

The final bill came out to around $450.00 including the exam, ultrasound, euthanasia, and group cremation, which I felt was reasonable given the circumstances. I therefore would not hesitate to recommend this facility for emergency treatment.

The staff at OVES are the most caring and compassionate people I have ever met. We were out of town and my mother-in-law had to take our Milly (10-year-old long hair Chihuahua) in for an emergency and they were so kind to keep us updated on her status almost hourly. They never seemed bothered if I called to check on her yet again and I could really tell that they cared about her and took the very best care of her. I spoke with many doctors and techs and they all seemed to know Milly and told me how much they loved it. Just really put me at ease knowing she was in such wonderful hands.

I highly recommend OVES and while I hope we never have to go back, I am glad to know there are such talented vet specialist teams close by. Thank you for everything OVES team and thank you for loving our baby which such care! Milly is now home and is doing great!
