Happened by here after work and gave it a try as I had commercials on the radio focused on the live music. Got a great local IPA from a local brewery across the Potomac and an ice cold glass just the right size. Lots of house made specials from an owner who is very hands on. We shared an order of the Chesapeake pay fries smothered in she crab soup and parm. They were absolutely delish and while a surprising combination paired well together. Even though it’s an hour from home, I’m already planning my next trip. Reduced hours off season so check before you go.

I needed a day away and found Cole's Point Tavern. I had the best crab cake sandwich I might have ever eaten and a really nice conversation with the waitress, Jocelyn. Everyone was very friendly and the view was amazing. I will definitely make many future trips :)

What a wonderful little spot! Sunset views, excellent crab fries and crab cakes! Teresa, our server was truly outstanding! Definitely a dive in some ways, but my God the food, service, and views are unbeatable! A must go!

Update: do not order the cheese steak, really just don't do it.

Coles Point Tavern is located in Maryland and as you walk to the restaurant you cross a "red line" on the boardwalk (Virginia/Maryland) state line. The food is awesome, our sandwiches were large and packed with meat. My grandson had the double meat cheeseburger, which was also great. The chilis had great flavor and came in a pretty good sized bowl. We also got the "loaded" french fries, onion rings and fried pickles. The waitress was very nice and kept our drinks full. The view of the water outside was nice. Highly recommend this restaurant!!

Excellent !! My wife and I stopped in for lunch on a Thursday. We split the large salad, which was way different than expected, it included, cucumber, tomatoes, lettuce, onion, bell pepper, boiled egg, bacon strips, coleslaw, and potato salad!! I had the flounder basket that came with fries, wife got the steak and cheese sub which was huge, and we ordered onion rings which were good!! All while sitting on the outside dock overlooking the Potomac river that surrounds the indoor restaurant.

Amazing seafood and atmosphere. Seafood pizza is a must and the scallops are some of the best I've had.

We love Coles Point Tavern! We drive 28 miles one way to enjoy it! The food is made fresh on site, the atmosphere is coastal laid back, and the people are friendly. Pro tip: try the seafood pizza, it is not what you are imagining right now, imagine the best cheesy crab dip on top of the best pizza crust and you will be getting close... it is amazing! Also, the Tavern is over the water. Therefore, in MD, buy your booze there and play bar Keno and horse races from MD lottery. Cheers 🍻

Can’t beat the beautiful view, super friendly service and amazing food.
Our pup Skye had first class service with a bowl of ice water when we received our beverages .
My small crab cake was the size of a saucer, and so tasty.

ABSOLUTELY INSANE GOOD FOOD! The service was a little off because one waitress was just bringing stuff out to random tables. The seafood pizza was ridiculous. Huge scallops, crab meat, and shrimp loaded on top.

Fabulous seafood pizza and fun, relaxed atmosphere. Beer glasses come to the table nice and frosty. I can see where this would be a great place to hang out.
Pizza was a bit pricey (market price) but absolutely loaded with crab, shrimp and scallops and is huge. The 16 inch could easily feed 3-4. I feel it was a good value for both the quality and quantity.

The setting is beautiful, the food is shockingly good (try their version of a Big Mac, it's awesome), and because it is just across the border into Maryland, there is a liquor store!

I've been kicked out of this place more times than I can count and there is no better joint on the Redneck Rivierah to get kicked out of. The decor is non-pretentious as is the menu. The food will impress you, the crowd is friendly but at closing time you gotta go.

Chris's crab cake sandwiches are the best on the bay. Fresh, generous and very tasty. I order mine without the bun so that I can finish it without being overstuffed. Seafood pizza when available will knock your socks off. Fresh catch of the day is always great as are the fish tacos. Burgers and sandwiches on the menu as well. Nice cold beer selection.

The kitchen has been renovated and expanded so the wait time for food during crowded periods is much shorter than it used to be however if you have a big group and it's rush hour(s) the wait can impress you with it's tenacity.

The Tavern is built out over the Potomac River and is therefore located in Maryland. There are nice docking facilities however if you arrive by car or motorcycle, you have to do so from the Northern Neck of Virginia. The place is not really easy to get to from just about anywhere but the drive seems a lot shorter once you have made it.

Cole's Point Tavern isn't an Applebee's, Chili's or any chain style restaurant. It's a historic old bar/dance hall that is privately owned (one of these owners might be that guy sitting next to you with the hat on). The jukebox is a prominent feature both visually and at times sonically. Expect local character and charm. If you get looked at when you walk in the door it's because folks tend to know each other around Cole's Point and they want to welcome you back.

Last but not least: There is a package store (beer and liquor) that sells ice as well.

Fine waterside place with local seafood. Pleasant outside deck seating overlooking Potomac River. Need more staff, and sometimes run out of menu items.
