Hua Yang

I chose this place because they are one of the few places left that have the dough 水饺/ Steamed Pork Dumplings (6) , these are my favorite and I will always choose the places that have these. The 葱油饼 / Scallion Pancake (1) were really good, though I wish they came with the dipping sauce like the dumplings. The hot and sour soup had more vinegar in it than I'm used to buy still ok. The 芝麻鸡 / Sesame Chicken lunch was large and really good.

Crazy good authentic Chinese Szechuan food. We had the boiled fish with chili sauce and eggplant with garlic chili sauce for the main dishes, and they were on point. The scallion pancakes were not oily, hold to their form, and like home made.
The owner was really friendly too.
A real hidden gem.

Chinese food or ethnic food reviewers will state you want a place that is 3.6 to 3.9 stars because it is rated low by people who don't like authentic and rated very high with people who like authentic = 3.9 stars. This place definitely follows that rule!

I ordered the Sichuan dishes recommended and it was amazing. I can't believe this gem is so close to me. Loved it.

I have eaten their Mongolian beef once, and it was so tasty. So, I ordered it again today! Besides, I also order the sesame chicken which surprisingly has ten chicken balls. So wonderful to the restaurant!

My family has been coming here for years and I never thought to rate it because we are normally inhaling the food as soon as we get home.

Best Asian takeout I've ever had. The owner is so friendly and sweet as well!! The classic American Hunan dishes are good and you can't go wrong but the szechuan dishes are where the real amazing food is. I'm not a huge fan of spicy but these aren't too hot. My partner orders them extra spicy and LOVES them so much. Even our grandmother who is very picky about food loves this place.

Best Szechuan in Twin Cities! This place is truly a hidden gem, run by masters. The owner comes from a popular Szechuan place in Minneapolis and she struck out on her own to take over a failing takeout joint in a strip mall. And thank goodness!

The menu is full of authentic Szechuan specialties. On this visit we tried:

Bamboo shoots in chili oil (cold salad with scallions - fresh, crunchy and wonderful)
Juicy buns (classic soup dumplings done right)
Dan-dan noodles (perfectly prepared top to bottom)
Boiled fish Szechuan style (the oily broth was rich and delicious, with tons of cabbage, sprouts and tofu to make a wonderfully balanced dish)
Cumin lamb (velvety and deeply flavorful, contrasted with crunchy shredded lettuce).
Eggplant stir-fried with garlic and pork (drop-dead delicious)

I cannot wait to go back and dive deeper into the menu.

Service was super sweet and friendly, food came out plenty fast and perfectly prepared, dish after incredible dish.

They also have the classic Hunan dishes that the American palate is more familiar with, and I'm sure they do a great job with those items, but if you crave amazing Szechuan, this is it. If you are a fan of Teahouse, Szechuan Spice, Grand Szechuan, etc., this will be your new favorite.

It's small with only a handful of tables but super clean and freshly painted, simple but pleasant decor - great for dining in or take out.

FINDING IT: Remember that I called it a hidden gem? It actually is - the old "#1" sign still hangs on the facade of the strip mall above their storefront, only a small sign on the door says, "Hua Yang" - embrace the adventure and seek it out - if you know what good Szechuan food is, you'll be delighted!

Best egg rolls in Minnesota! I drive 30 minutes out of my way just to get food from this restaurant. I’m a Chinese food snob and I have yet to find another restaurant that comes anywhere close to this one in quality and taste. Food is always made fresh and is prepared in a very timely manner. Couldn’t ask for a better combination when it comes to take out.

got my favorite eggplant from Hua Yang Chinese restaurant today! we are four people and ordered two vegetables, one fish and one pork, they serving white rice with every order. great food!

Despite being in a Minneapolis suburb, this Szechuan restaurant is a hidden gem. The one catch is that you have to order as if you’re not a Minnesotan: ask for it to be spicy/very spicy!

I wasn’t excited about this place the first time I ordered given how mild it was, but then I ordered an extra spicy Ma Po Tofu and was very happy with it!

So, branch out a little and order a Szechuan dish instead of your normal Chinese-American fare and get it spicy!

I am a drain cleaner and they had some drain issues. We solved that and they offered me a free meal. Let me tell you hands down best Dinner I have had in a long time it was absolutely wonderful. Great people I can not say enough good things about them.

got the Sichuan spicy dumplings from Hua Yang today. love this spicy flavor so much, and this chicken salad was good too.

The Sesame Chicken is extremely delicious and so tasty that I really want to order again!

it is my third time order my family's dinner from Hua Yang restaurant this week. they had homemade special menu and we all love to try the different dished everytime!

Had the best Beef and Broccoli here. Broccoli wasn't soggy and beef was amazingly tender with great taste. Beef Lo Mein was also delicious, I could eat it all week and I'd be happy. Great serving sizes! The service was also amazing and the staff was very friendly. Will definitely be back.

New Yorker here that misses good Chinese/Szechuan food. I just ate here for the first time: general Tso
Chicken dine in. Wow. Probably the best Chinese/Szechuan I’ve had since leaving ny 14 years ago. Big hunks of chicken instead of little bits of fried breading mixed in with larger pieces. Sauce was really good too. It was a good size single meal vs a ton of leftovers but seriously surprised!

We stopped and dined-in on a busy school night. The staff was so sweet and welcoming. The interior is clean. The food was prepared quickly and it was all delicious. This will be our new go-to!

Authentic Szechuan taste but greasy. Eggplant with garlic sauce was the best! Spicy Szechuan Pork belly was good.

New ownership in February 2021, and from what we experienced, this is a change for the better! The ingredients were fresh, and made to order. The mini juicy buns were homemade and the pork filling was tender. Super nummy and great to find! The shrimp and veggie stir fry and spicy stir fry were delicious and full of fresh veggies. We will be back!

The new owners have done an outstanding job. They are the nicest people in the world. My wife is Chinese and they personally cooked her a special diet throughout her entire pregnancy and delivered it every few days. I really can't say enough good things about them or the food.
