Schneider Hardware

We are new to the are and use to going to Home Depot for any kind of home repair stuff. But not anymore. I drove by this store by accident and returned when I needed to pick up some caulk. I’m in love with this store. The owner is super knowledgeable and they have everything. I’m going to give them any business I can.

Gerald is always polite and helpful and of course knows his stuff cold.
The store is a fun throwback and always has what we need.
Parking is easy - coffee right across the street / next door and you'll never wind up wandering the aisles looking for someone in vain.
Schneider is always my first choice - keep up the good work!

Nothing like an old fashioned hardware store to get you just what you needed..
I needed to fix a chair and needed a precise nut for about I had.. they were spot on and so very friendly at the same time.

After wasting most of my Saturday at multiple Home Depot’s and Lowe’s looking for a 5 lb. mattock pick to dig up some stuff in my yard, an employee around the corner at the Orange Garden Center recommended Schneider Hardware because, “the gentleman who works there has and can find anything.” I went and was greeted and sure enough, he had the exact tool I was looking for! It is so refreshing to use a local hardware store and he also happens to sharpen “anything with a blade.” He is super professional and courteous. He went above and beyond because even though the store was supposed to close at 5:30pm, it was 5:40pm when I paid for my tools. That customer service is so hard to find. I am relieved to have found a reliable hardware store again and I highly recommend it if you live near this location - particularly for Glen Ridge and Montclair. Don’t waste your time at the Bloomfield Home Depot, which used to be my first stop. Schneider Hardware seemed to have everything and I can’t wait to go back during regular business hours!

Came in to buy a cement drill bit to install a mailbox, because it's the closest hardware store to the part of Montclair that I live in. Turns out the store has a huge variety of parts for old house. Gerald, the owner, helped me with a leather washer for a 100 year old toilet in our new house. It still had a brass fill valve. I thought I would be replacing, and he showed me how to take apart the plunger and replace the leather part. He ended up giving me the part for free. Feel lucky to have a place like this so close to home.

A wonderful gem of a hardware store. These fellows have everything and also provide GREAT service. Had knives and garden tools to sharpen. They turned my order around in less than 24 hours. You cannot beat that. And friendly and knowledgable. This place has character and is chock-a-block with EVERYTHING that one needs. They also repair window screens.
A wonderful GO-TO place instead of the big box places that are far away and awfully corporate.

I just came here to get a pair of long nosed pliers, but I must say this is the kind of hardware store I miss from the boroughs, but thankfully most towns in Jersey still have at least one of these treasures.

The owner (I think he was the owner) was pleasant and helpful and although it was a wet miserable day there was some good foot traffic.

When we can, we must support these kinds of businesses....

I always find what I need there. It is the old fashion hardware store where you find things from the past that you need.

Great place, especially if you have an old home and need unique pieces (knobs, screws, etc)
Friendly gentlemen who will spend as much time with you as needed. I wanted to refinish a wood table and they even took a piece of wood and showed me and gave me the wood that they demonstrated on.
Reminds me of the hardware store in Home Improvement. Definitely feel the affect of local business here. Always my first stop to try and avoid a trip to Home Depot.

Being the son and grandson of carpenters, I grew up around traditional old world European hardware stores, so much so that their smells of metal and wood are ingrained as a sweet childhood memory. Home centers don't have that. not even close. The first time I entered Schneider Hardware, that happy memory of my childhood came rushing in, and I felt that if I closed my eyes I could hear my grandfather's voice talking shop. This hardware store is amazing. It's like a time machine. Roger and Gerald, the owners, were welcoming and knowledgeable. And above all, extremely helpful. After the first visit, I know I would be a customer for life.

Best experience I have ever had at a hardware store!!! Came in with one random bolt from replacing my garage door springs... Before I could even say anything, Gerald took one look at it and knew exactly what it was… even helped me machine it a bit so the springs would fit. These guys know what they are talking about!!!

Friendly, knowledgeable, extremely helpful… Gerald, you sincerely saved my day, and turned a PITA into a quick and easy fix!!! I will highly recommend to all my neighbors and friends... and will certainly be back for any other hardware needs, in the future.

Its nice to see local hardware stores, a rarity where I come from. So far, this we kept store has had everything I've needed for a reasonable price, with very friendly people working there. I'd much sooner spend my money here than Home Depot or other big brand hardware stores.

This place is 100 years old and does a great service to this community. Always friendly!

Think about this. You know those times when you just hoped someone at the hardware store would actually help you figure out how to fix things or actually do home repair properly? Thats Schneider's. I think every single time I came in with a fairly ignorant question on how to do home improvement, I got schooled here properly. Not in a condescending way, but that 'This Old house' kinda way. The Schneider brothers, should be considered a Living treasure by West orange. I've avoided hundreds of dollars in outsourced repairs and remedies thanks to their knowledge and professionalism. Patronize the store please, to help them keep them our our homes healthy!

What a great place. Old style charm but 100% legit and well stockedw actual tools and parts. Super knowledgeable owner very friendly and personable too.

Awesome time talking track and field with the owners we always share stories about track..... Livingston High keeps good pole vaulters and when he pole vaulted they did not have mats...lol....his son Brian was a great runner a few years back for Livingston but more importantly they have anything you need.

Been here twice so far, I'm a new homeowner and the guy behind the counter has been really helpful, very knowledgeable and willing to help. Prices are comparable to the big box stores, maybe a couple dollars more on average but nobody at home depot would have taken the time to tech me how to use an auger as well as draw a very helpful diagram of a tub drain. Or explain the difference between rock salt and mag chloride. Current covid set up is no browsing, just a front counter and the staff goes and gets what you ask for. I think this will be my first stop next time I need anything hardware related!
