This is a surprisingly large museum on a large piece of beautiful lakeside property where James Fenimore Cooper once lived. The exhibits of American art are first class. And when you’re done be sure to walk around the beautiful grounds and spend some time along the lake.

A small museum with an excellent Native American collection. The grounds are stunning, so save some time to stroll around out back.

Amazing art museum with a renowned flagship exhibit of Native American artwork. There are also several rotating exhibits in the museum, as well as a small cafe and gift shop. If you’re passing through, I’d highly recommend visiting it especially if you’re interested in indigenous history.

Amazing midsized museum in Central New York. The museum places a great importance on community involvement with a story walking path near the lake for children and even some baseball memorabilia for purchase in the gift shop. The exhibits halls are midsized and very well organized. The building itself is beautiful and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Definitely recommend if you're in town for the Baseball Hall of Fame, have an interest in art or just have a few hours to contemplate beautiful works.

This is a beautiful art museum to visit. I've been many times in the summer but this was my first visit for the holidays. The exquisite architecture is enhanced by many tasteful holiday displays. If you have the opportunity, I strongly recommend a visit to the Fenimore to get into the holiday spirit.

This is a very cool smaller museum. Each portion is well considered, and the staff is quite nice. The artwork associated with James Fenimore Cooper is almost the cherry on top of the overall experience.

We spent about two hours, perusing the Fenimore art museums collections. We were very impressed with your collections of folk art and fine art along with their exhibition of Randi Johnson's photography and a cabinet of curious matters. The staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful. It was our first time visiting the Fenimore Art Museum, but we will make an appoint to return.

Terrific museum with so much to see! The museum's collections are displayed over three floors in a neoclassical mansion that overlooks Lake Otsego They have wonderful displays of traditional folk art and Native American art and artifacts. Grandma Moses, Gilbert Stuart, and Thomas Cole are amongst prominent artists whose works are featured.
The museum also displays traveling exhibits. Currently, one of the traveling displays features former MLB pitcher Randy Johnson's photographs. They also had a nice display of psychedelic rock and roll art from the 1960's.
The museum also has tours that you can join while visiting. The tours are informational and the guide did a great job explaining the works of art in the museum.
Didn't see a place to purchase tickets online so they have to be purchased at the museum. There is a gift shop and small café located in the museum as well. Be sure to take a stroll on the grounds surrounding the museum. There are some nice exhibits, a garden, and a nice view of the lake.

We visited on Labor Day for the last day of the M. C. Escher exhibit. The Escher exhibit was extensive and information was posted on nearly every piece. There was also a Native American exhibit that we enjoyed as well. The building is beautifully restored with large, clean bathrooms, a gift shop and a small beverage and snack shop (we did not partake). Parking is free and admission is very reasonable. We did not take the thruway and the drive from central New York was lovely.

Incredible how many types of different artwork can fit into a relatively small space. All current exhibits are stunning, many are thought-provoking and unexpected. Unfortunately, we had only a couple of hours to spend there. The fact that there was no admission charge for kids made our decision easy. Will try to come back soon.

Incredible art museum with many varied exhibits. We spent an hour here, and could've stayed longer if we hadn't been hungry 😊
I highly recommend this to any art or history lovers!
And the ladies bathroom was very fancy! ✨

Manageable little museum. Friendly staff. Modest crowds. Beautiful exhibit on Keith Haring is what brought my lady and I to the door, but she found more contemporary art to capture her imagination. Arthur exhibit was a bit underwhelming. We also enjoyed the American wing. Easy drive. Easy (free) parking. Worth a return trip sometime.

Beautiful grounds supporting a lovely showcase of modern and local artists. I appreciated the broad styles of art represented. There is truly something for everyone on display without the collection becoming overwhelming.

Wonderful museum with a focus on folk and Native American art. There have been new, interesting pieces and fabulous special exhibits every time we've visited. The labels are informative and several pieces have curator interpretations recorded on a phone-in service. There is a museum cafe, though we didn't visit it, and a well-stocked museum store. Definitely worth a visit.

Great, beautiful museum. Fantastic American artists plus world class folk art collection. Also a beautiful setting right next to Otsego Lake. They're right across the street from the Farmers Museum.

What a delightful surprise this museum was in a town overflowing with everything baseball. The permanent collection of Native American art is beautifully displayed, and the American art has some jewels (metaphorically). Temporary exhibits were wonderful and varied. The mansion itself is lovely and the grounds, on the lake, are gorgeous. A very enjoyable experience.

We had an amazing visit here and the admission price was great with students being free. There was great variety in the displays and some that the kids enjoyed including Spotting Elephant and Piggy. We took the short walk around the grounds and checked out the fishing house. The MC Escher was what brought us but the Thaw collection was incredible. Only took about 1.5 hours for us.

Exquisite museum on the shores of Lake Otsego. Beautiful grounds and architecture. I was fortunate enough to see the Thomas Cole’s In the Garden of Eden and Edward Weston photographs. An exceptional visit.
