Elk Heart Outfitters Trail Rides

This outfitter is an awesome experience. The Wife and I did the two hour ride. You get to go through some nice wood areas and even up to a stream so the horse can drink if they want, you know the saying. My horse Smoke was quite a character who liked to try and eat but he was full of a funny attitude.

The guides are really down to Earth people who know what they are doing and the trails you go on. They are also really good with kids.

I highly recommend this place if you wanna go for a ride near Pagosa Springs. Also make sure to pack a rain jacket cause Colorado weather is highly unpredictable.

Wonderful experience! Took kids 9 to 14 years-old and they loved it! The adults did too. Was expecting the usual boring slug of horse rental rides and was so pleasantly surprised when they took us single track! The kids were thrilled! Horses in good shape. We had 3 guides for a group of 11. Safe and exciting at the same time. Highly recommend!

We had a great horse ride with Elk Heart Outfitters. The horses were well trained and the staff was knowledgeable. Lily did a wonderful job filling us in about the plant life, the views we were seeing and helped us all feel comfortable. I’m glad I was able to ride Utah (my horse on the trail!)

This was such an amazing idea experience. We were visiting Pagosa for the week for vacation. This was definitely a highlight of the trip.the horses were so sweet and we loved every bit of it. We booked them for an hour and they gave us an hour and a half without charging extra.

We had a group of 8 riders and each one of us had a great time!! The guides were so friendly and knowledgeable & the horses were perfect! I would highly recommend & we will definitely be back next year!!

Today, 5 of us enjoyed a 2-hour trail ride with Adam and Justin. The well behaved horses took us through the most beautiful mountains we have ever experienced. Up and down the trails we took pictures and heard stories from the guides. We were a mix of lifelong riders to newbies, and we all had a great day. We will be returning to do an all day ride in late summer!

Had a super good and fun time! relevant price for the other places around. The drive to get to the place was pretty and all around worth it. The horses did want to stop and eat a lot but nothing unmanageable.

We did the 2 hour trail ride with our family of 5 and it was incredible! This was by far the best trail ride we have done. The guides were knowledgeable, personable, patient and adjusted throughout the ride to accommodate my kids and make the entire experience amazing. From the horses to the scenery this is a must do!

Thank you Elk Heart Outfitters! The 4 of us (all adults) took the 2 hr ride which was the perfect length since we don’t ride on a regular basis (or at all). It took my legs a minute to figure it out when we got back to camp.😂 We’d recommend this outfit to anyone interested in a fun ride, lots of terrain, beautiful views and great company. We will be back.

Had a great trail ride with Mia & Finn!! They were so fun to be around and really made the trail ride. The horses all knew their jobs and we all felt super safe. 10/10 way to enjoy the National Forest. We will for sure do this again!

My family took a 2 hour ride with Mia and Finn and loved the whole experience! We try to include a trail ride on each vacation and the Elkheart was our favorite. The forest access is amazing and those two love their jobs. I will definitely join them again when I return to Pagosa Springs.

Very nice and informative staff! The horse are very sweet and well trained. We took the 2 hour trip and had a lot of fun plus we got to see some great views!

My friend and I went on the 1 hour tour with Lily as our trail guide. She was sweet, talkative and knowledgeable. They did their best to accommodate my short legs and find me a saddle that worked.

My boyfriend and I had the BEST experience horse back riding with Elk Heart Outfitters. Lilly and her dad, Shawn (our guides) were both very knowledgeable when it came to the horses and the land which we rode. The horses we rode were very gentle and laid back (Tito and Utah). We can’t wait to visit them again soon!

We have ridden with Elk Heart 3 times now and every time they are just amazing. Every ride from the 1 hour to the half day was just beautiful. This time we had Mia & Finn for guides and they were great, very nice and knowledgeable as is all the staff we've met. The horses are well trained and taken care of. We have made it a tradition to go horseback riding every time we visit Pagosa Springs and will continue to use Elk Heart Outfitters.

Had an awesome experience!! Horses were just as amazing as the owners and the trails were absolutely beautiful! Family owned for 20 plus years, and got to learn a lot about Pagosa from our leaders and hear cool stories about the horses training! The horses were incredibly skilled at maneuvering up and down the steep areas and there was never a worry of falling off:)
