Dr. Jay L. Mackman, DDS

OMG! Dr. Mackman first came into our lives in 1999. My husband, Scott, was still teaching and coaching high school. A line drive caught him in the jaw; Scott was in constant pain for six months.

Our dentist sent Scott to Dr. Mackman, whom he called the 'real deal' in a field of charlatans.

Dr. Mackman proved him right. He was able to correct Scott's pain in short order. We switched to his office for Dentistry, which remained available until three years ago. The Virus took its toll, leaving the group of professionals to specialize in only TMJD and Sleep Disorders. Jay even invented a tool to assist in his work.

This highly professional man remains just a regular guy, helping me with the crosswords brought to pass time in his waiting room; proudly displaying huge photos of his two sons; greeting us at a live show and before lunch had arrived at a nearby soup restaurant. Dr. Mackman is smart, intuitive, personable, and FUNNY. We'd exchange family stories while our kids grew, albeit in other parts of the county. Traveling to Wauwatosa from the Airport is well worth the trip.

I, too, needed help when, in 2006, it was discovered that teeth grinding damaged my jaws. To evaluate my condition, the following took place: special X-rays of the jaws, the creation of a Splint, appointments with a wonderful professional and personable Pain Management professional (whose assistant diagnosed my Fibromyalgia), and appointments with a fantastic group of Physical Therapists. All in one location! BRILLIANT!!

Once I began treatment, I wore my Splint day and night, unless eating. Progress gradually followed. I'd practice singing a song from 'Mary Poppins' in order to be understood when answering the phone at work.

Regular progess check-ups and appointments, plus my practice and therapy, done frequently throughout the day, paid off. The Splint was returned to the lab, to be made into a Night Guard. I continued to wear it until it was misplaced last year.

At that point, Dr. Salm, who was referred to me by Dr. Mackman, told me that he had the ability to create simple Splints in his office; in my complex case, the Smiles for Miles dentist sent me back to Dr. Mackman.

It was a relief that Jay Mackman continued to practice. In December 2022, I again received a customized Splint.
I was told that I was "MICRONS away from a helluva lot of pain". Whew! Dodged that bullet! Scott may need another if he tests positive for Sleep Apnea.

This humble man, now a Grandfather, may soon leave his Life's work in the capable hands of others. Though they are fully qualified, the practice has grown through the use of 'Mackman's Method' of care. The 'real deal', indeed. The invented tool will be passed on.

Dr. Mackman treated not only us, but two of our daughters. Our entire family is so endebted to him. I would like to write his memoir. He's one of several professionals who have altered our Lives in positive ways. In fact, we'd be honored if he would attend our 50th Anniversary party next summer.
