Inova Fairfax Hospital Emergency Room

I had outpatient surgery under general anesthesia, extraction of my left submandibular gland, on 02.27.24 @ the Inova Healthplex, Alexandria. Unfortunately, I developed a severe abscess by 03.04.24. These things happen, it's nobody's fault. But when my fever spiked over 104F I proceeded to my local ER @ SENTARA Hospital, Woodbridge. They ran the necessary tests, including 3 CTs with contrast of head, neck, and chest because the abscess spread through the throat into my chest cavity. They informed my ENT surgeon, Dr. Comstock, and in their tirelessly collaborative effort, had me transported to INOVA Hospital, Fairfax where Dr. Comstock immediately met me and performed emergency surgery to resolve the problem and had me admitted afterward. Everyone, and I mean everyone at INOVA hospital, Fairfax has gone above and beyond to make me feel as comfortable as possible. It started with my EMT transport, reception check in, janitorial and KP staff, transport aids who push you through endless hallways and still are kind and smile, nurses, techs, aids, clinicians, anesthesiology and their team, not to mention the awesome Dr. Comstock and his amazing team. Special shout-out to my nurses on the fourth floor of the women's ward. You all rock and I will always remember how dedicated you are to your patients! Yes, I did study some of the reviews for INOVA healthcare system and am, quite frankly, baffled. What is wrong with you unhappy complainers? Of course, there may be a legit complaint here and there, we are all humans, we make mistakes, but this hospital and their staff deserves more than KUDOS! They came to work when the world started falling apart during the pandemic and worked tirelessly to save everyone's life, all the while being faced with death all around them, even in their own circles. I have been treated with the utmost respect and compassion and continue to be cared for by these wonderful medical professionals, who clearly are not just seeing their profession as a means of income. They are the kind of people who take their patients serious and not act like businesses associates trying to make a quick buck like most doctors I have had the displeasure of meating in my 30 years in Dale City and who have forgotten about the hypocritical oath they once swore when becoming a doctor, promising to treat and help patients rather than harassing them and suggesting unnecessary procedures just for their profit. I truly can attest to the fact that every person working at Inova has the patient's interest at heart. Again, thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

I wanted to thank the E.R. at Fairfax INOVA for great care after an allergic reaction yesterday. Not only did they treat me with dignity, but they also listened and gave a quick, accurate solution.
Please note: Security personnel were unreasonably short and demeaning to teens in the secondary waiting room. Teens in crisis deserve expert, compassionate care from EVERYONE. It was obvious that this poor treatment from security personnel was triggering to the one patient, despite a nurse's intervention.

Shout out to PA Lindsay and Dr. Burr. These 2 and their team were amazing on a Friday night in this fricken zoo and still exhibited great knowledge and compassion to my friend who needed medical and mental health assistance.

Honestly I’ve never seen such a good set up at a hospital coming from someone who worked at 2 hospitals! I’m amazed at how efficient they are. The only con was I waited in the check in line for about 20 minutes, but it was worth the wait. As soon as I was done being checked in, a triage nurse called me in then was sent for a EKG and blood work. Shortly after that maybe like 10 minutes later they found a bed for me. The nurse was LOVELY. Super nice and had a lot of compassion. Doctor came to seem like 30 minutes after being in the room (which is great for being an very busy ER). The ER doc was nice as well.
Thank you for your care. I will definitely recommend my family and friends to come here in case of an emergency.

Excellent care. Great staff. I have gone many times for both my boys and daughter and they always take such good care of them. Special thanks to Helen who stitched up my daughter when she got cut deeply right near her eyebrow and it has healed excellent…u can’t even see the scar.
Also when my one son had pneumonia they all worked hard to get him better after a five day stay. Great doctors and nurses.

Superbly run and excellently staffed emergency room. Huge facility. Wait times depend on severity/urgency/triage. Highly recommended.

The staff at the ER are fantastic, particularly Ivy and Alex (brunette travel nurse). They were so caring and extremely knowledgeable. They made us feel so comfortable trusting them with my grandma’s care. Thank you to amazing nurses like Alex and Ivy!

We had a had a visit on this emergency room for my two years, the team here are amazing the doctors are keep coming very frequently to check on our child the nurses are extremely nice and caring as they are taking care of their own child especially VIVIAN LPN and SHANTEL RN PEDS Ed which are absolutely amazing and well knowledgeable people here I’m sure they are an asset for this emergency room! We are very happy with the services and care our child received today 👍

Intake staff were efficient and capable healthcare professionals. Wait time was longer than expected for broken bone, but many people use the ER when it may be better to go to an urgent care for minor issues or their regular doctor.

I went last year in October 2020 to the Emergency room, I can tell although they were super busy, all of them (from the receptionist to doctors and nurses) were professionals, they treat patients with compassion and a good attitude. Of course, you have to wait a long time in the common room because they have high demand, however, they treat immediately those patients who arrive very ill (I could tell the first hand because I saw it, I waited 2 hours in the common area.) I was really impressed with the excellent way they treat patients.

They took good care of me, although it took them a little bit time to have a look at my condition and make a decision about a treatment plan. But the employees, nurses, doctors, etc were really caring and helpful.

16,5 weeks pregnant I went to the ER. All the stuff was very polite, kind and supportive. Nurses were even saying sorry that we got to spend a Sunday in ER!

I had an emergency I was rushed in for and the emergency team got me in right away, the OR team was exceptionally attentive and overall it was a very positive experience! Thank you to all of the doctors and nurses who work so hard to take the best care of each patient!

Bashed my head a couple days and woke up with a terrible headache. Enter to exist was under 2 hours with a head CT - I got results in MyChart in real time (established Inova patient but never been to Inova ER). Very helpful, quick experience. Thank you to all the staff, especially CT, y’all were great.

Went in pediatric emergency for my child's unfortunate dog bite injury. Check in was a breeze - ID card and my benefits ID and a couple of signatures and we were in.. the rest of the paperwork later. Had great experience from a great staff - it seemed like they had the whole team working on my child the whole time - they dont mess around and they had tons of doctors. Plastic surgeons on quick on-call duty. Had to come in the second time for infection due to the nature of dog bites. Nurse Susan made sure our child had the best care possible - even went out of her way on her personal time to check up on our child. Very caring and accomodating environment. Well worth the extra travel distance.

My wife and I had the pleasure in having miss Brooks as our Nurse on Monday 11/31/20.
She genuinely treated my wife with the respect and kindness she deserved.

Fairfax hospital is very lucky to have Ms Brook in your establishment!!

I have, unfortunately, been to the ER in one capacity or another at least once per year for the last 5 years. Hoping to buck that trend soon. The staff are friendly, courteous and knowledgeable from the valet services, to check-in, to the visitor agents and finally the ER doctors and nurses. I know I'm in good hands when I'm here.

Fairfax ED and Heart and Vasular Institute SAVED MY LIFE 9/29. the doctors nurses techs and the non medical staff are OUTSTANDING. They are more than 5 stars.
