Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center

I have to applaud Maryview! This was by far the best hospital experience I have ever had!!! I had a knee replacement and they were kind, had great bedside manners and were professional! I truly felt like they cared AND were caring toward me. They got it right y’all!

I have received the best service for 4 different procedures in the last 4 months. I had labs drawn, 2 outpatient procedures one requiring anesthesia, and a surgery that required an overnight stay. I was treated by the most caring and professional caregivers I have ever experienced in my 65 years. Everyone from the security guards at the information desk, the staff at registration, the nurses, anesthesiologists, and surgeon were kind, answered all my questions and concerns, and spent all the time I needed to be confident in my health decisions. I highly recommend the Bon Secours Maryview team and don’t understand the low ratings.

My husband had two knee replacement surgeries at Maryview recently. The medical staff were amazing... They were caring and so accommodating to help make the visits as comfortable as possible. Specifically the Orthopedic staff and Dr Benjamin Westcott. Dr Westcott and his medical team treated us like we were the only patients there. They provided thorough answers to our questions during the stay and after going home they followed up with us to make sure everything was okay. We would highly recommend Dr Westcott and his staff and Maryview Medical Center for any orthopedic needs or services.

This review is for the marview surgery department. I went to the ER before and had an awful experience, and I was nervous when my doctor had me scheduled for surgery at Maryview. Honestly, from beginning to end, I had the BEST care I've ever had with a hospital. Every staff member was so kind, caring, Informative, and a joy to be around. Me being a nurse, I feel that I notice a lot of things others may not, but I couldn't pick out one thing that was done wrong. All the nurses, surgeons, OR team, medical assistants, chaplain, etc were AMAZING. I highly recommend Maryview for any surgical procedure! Thank you so much everyone!

I was hesitant about being transferred here after a severe heart incident. I was always told it was nicknamed "murderview" well I can wholeheartedly say I received the best care. My nurses Rayna and Jon were exceptional. The nurse practitioner Desiree was TOP-NOTCH!!!! The cardiologist I had was OUTSTANDING! His name was Dr. Callaghan. He put me at ease the moment I met him. He gave me great care. I felt I was taken great care of and I have zero complaints or negative remarks.

My experiences as a patient at Maryview have been exceptional. The hospital has a pretty lobby. The halls are very shiny and clean. Now there may be some nasty patients who do nasty things in their rooms but I think the hospital staff work hard to clean those up when they see them, because everywhere you look theirs someone cleaning, even base boards. Everyone is very friendly and helpful, and work hard to do what they can to help the patients. They are busy like every hospital but I was pleasantly surprised they got me in and out for procedures quickly. I think in general no hospital is perfect, but the old view of Maryview is very much dead and gone. There’s a new view at Maryview and it looks pretty good! Thank you Maryview for the care you gave to me, the care you offer your patients and turning Maryview around for the community! Which by the way thank you for all the volunteer work and donations you give to the Portsmouth community!

I had a great experience; during an out patient procedure. Yes, there is construction ongoing and the hospital seems more basic/older than others; but it is clean, well appointed and best of all it has a compassionate, pleasant, engaging and highly competent staff. Tia at registration was great. Brittanie in the prep room was terrific. Eva, Suzanna, and Christi were just as good. It was fun/interesting to watch team work. And of course, I was in great hands with Dr Wong and Dr Iyer.

Was admitted to Maryview Hospital over the past 2 days and just released a few hours ago. I was terrified not only about knowing I had to be admitted, but then learning I had to be transferred to what locals call “Murderview” (due to all the various death stories discussed about that place). However, to my surprise, I received GREAT, if not EXCEPTIONAL care. We may not take the time to Acknowledge how important good care is at hospitals, but I definitely would like to pay my respect to the staff at Maryview Hospital in Portsmouth, VA. Everyone was very kind and understanding. Nurse Joyce went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and I pray one day that I get the chance to do do something special for this God Filled woman that prayed over me during my visit, she is truly amazing. The other Nurses (Wilma, Precious, Melissa, Lizzie & anyone I may have forgot) were also respectful, very kind, knowledgeable and attentive. Not sure what experience anyone else has had while receiving care at Maryview, my stay was full of people, I feel, truly cared about my well being. Now, the kitchen staff can use a bit of work with their hospitality, but the nurses were alright with me. Shout out to the 2nd Floor Cardiac Unit at Maryview Hospital.

I had a bariatric procedure done here on 6/22/22. Despite of all the rumors I heard about this place I didn’t experience none of it. Since walking in to register from the security desk, the nurses who prepped me for surgery, the anesthesia team, my surgeon Dr.Kudav, and my nurses with after care everyone was truly angels. The bedside manner was so awesome. No attitudes, no rude staff no flaws. And the hospital was clean and neat. I’ve read some horrible comments about this place but I experienced none of it. I would like to thank everyone I came in contact with during my procedure and stay. God bless you all. Truly Angels

I recently had outpatient orthopedic surgery at Maryview and can’t say enough positive things about the experience. From the preop interview to the recovery unit, the staff were professional, thorough, kind, and caring. The facility was clean and I was impressed at the steps taken to provide a safe and pleasant experience. Most importantly, I had a positive outcome.

Tonight my mom and I brought my 81 year old grandmother to the ER. The staff at check in was pleasant and nurturing toward my grandmother and it only got better from there. Sherri was the nurse assigned to my grandmother and she was so polite, gentle, understanding, and wonderful. Dr. Taylor then came in - he was able to explain to us and my grandmother what was going on and was extremely kind and compassionate.
Way to go Maryview - I’m beyond impressed. This goes to show how valuable and caring employees can change perceptions of a facility.

This hospital is wonderful and is really taking great care of me! Tracy and all off my nurses and staff are incredible. Very clean. Shout out to a awesome hospital. Bon Secour Maryview Hospital I will come back here for all my testing and procedures!!!!

I came here for an ultrasound on my legs. Very confusing to find your way around but the building was nice and clean and my nurse was extremely friendly.

I recently had back surgery during the current pandemic at Maryview Hospital in Portsmouth. I was very pleased with my entire experience.
Everyone worked very hard to give me the best care. I was taken to the new surgical wing which is just beautiful and well done. My nurses were very caring and knowledgeable. My surgeon Dr. Kerner is just the best anyone could want.

After hearing horror stories about this hospital my loved one ended up in the ICU where he couldn’t have received better care anywhere. He came off the vent after the first full day with Pneumonia in both lungs (non Covid related). I would like to thank the staff for being so on point, caring and compassionate. They s literally saved his life.

I came through the emergency room. Everyone I came in contact with were exceptional from the emergency room doctors and nurses to the stepdown nurses. All the staff were pleasant and made my stay a pleasant one.

I understand with COVID 19 protocols my wife was not able to visit me in my room. However, with cellphones I was able to keep her up to date.

The only negative experience was how long I had to wait in the emergency before a bed was available for me (COVID19 again). I entered the emergency room at 12:30 PM on Sunday and did not get assigned a room until Monday evening at 10:00 PM. However the emergency room staff tried to make me as comfortable as possible.

Was in real pain not able to eat for days! Walked in to the ER and was treated very respectful and professional. The entire staff from admission to release was exceptional. Being far from home (Arkansas) They made me feel as comfortable as possible and I wish ever hospital was as this one! Kudos to the entire ER staff and thank you ! Your all golden values in my eyes!

My most recent experiences with the staff at Maryview have been vastly better than prior years. Thank you to the professional staff who worked on my case. Keep up your great work. I do ask that personal conversations be cancelled and kept in staff lounges. Quiet is necessary.

When I was sent their from Mary Immaculate back in August I was a patient for 4 days. The morning I arrived sadly my sister received her wings. Everyone was so supportive and kind. My only issue is how hot the elevators were.

The center itself is well taken care of and the staff are friendly. You definitely see different kinds of people with all types of medical issues coming in and begin to feel safe and comfortable knowing that the staff care. The doctor I had was friendly and cared about my ins and outs on my first visit. Look forward to making her my regular doctor.
