Celtic Ray Public House

Having recently returned from our first trip to the UK, Celtic Ray was a fantastic reminder of our vacation. It definitely scratched the British Pub itch, even though it’s technically an Irish Pub. I had the fish and chips and while not quite as good as it is across the pond, Celtic Ray does a great job at getting pretty close and the generous portion size definitely helps. My wife ordered the Breton Chicken. The menu says it’s chicken breast pieces in a rosemary Chardonnay cream sauce but I’m fairly certain they left out that it was made by angels. Everything about this dish was perfect…and has been consistent each of the times we’ve been back since tasting it…it’s been 2 weeks and we’ve gone 3 times. We might have a problem. I wish they had actual malt vinegar for the chips instead of the malt vinegar substitute, but it’s a small issue I’m more than willing to look past.
For dessert we had the strawberry pouffe which was very good. Puff pastry with strawberries and real whipped cream. Simple but tasty. The star of the dessert show was the Dublin Tart, though. Chocolate, smooth, deliciousness. But try to order it early, one time we went they had sold out of it. It was a travesty. I guess we’ll have to go back.

Like a traditional British pub, you find your table then order at the bar and they’ll bring you the food.
If you like live music, they seem to always have it starting at 9:00, I believe.

I’ve always had such a great experience here! The staff are the heart and soul of this place – they're incredibly friendly and welcoming, easily the best in a 20-mile radius.

Now, about the drinks – you're in for a treat! They serve them just right, making sure you get a great deal for what you pay. It's a refreshing change from other places around town.

And the food – simply delicious! If you're not super hungry, check out the kid's menu. The kids fish and chips and kids chicken strips are a steal at $11 each. Definitely add a side of curry for an extra $3 – it's a small addition that makes a big difference. It's all about enjoying good food in a great atmosphere!

My husband and I were here after a show. Live music was great. Due to cold weather, we went inside to eat. Atmosphere is so much like an Irish Pub. So many great choices are available. I chose Guinness, of course. I tried the scotch egg small plate which was very good. It included a generous slice of buttered soda bread, grapes, coleslaw and mustard sauce. Then the authentic fish and chips was ordered. It was delicious. Prices were good. However, there were no wait staff available. We had to go to the bar to order. It was a Saturday night. Overall, it was good but ordering was weird. We'll most likely return. When the weather is better, we'll look forward to enjoying the Live music more. 🎶

Update: I didn't know 🙃 a traditional Irish Pub has "order at the bar" service. What I felt weird about is now quaint. We'll be back sooner.

Great place to visit if you like genuine Irish pub fare. The food really never disappoints, and the selection of beers is hard to beat in Punta Gorda. Have been here several times and the service is always pleasant and straight to the point. (No waitresses bar order only, at least outside) plenty of space, good atmosphere (especially inside) you'll love it!! Don't forget to get the fish and chips.

Our favorite Irish Pub and grill in Florida. The food has always been superb and staff friendly. Beautifully decorated and a more authentic Irish establishment you won't find in Florida.

Now this is one serious Irish Pub.

Great place! Fun authentic atmosphere with lots of days that include live music. Excellent selection of beers both domestic and imported. Sumptuous Irish food served hot and fresh.

I've been to Ireland many times, and this is the closest to an Irish pub that I've been to in the USA. The bartenders are real Irishmen. The beer selection is genuine and varied, as is the food selection. You go to the bar to make your choices, as is the case in Irish pubs.

There is inside and outside seating. The outside seating is better for later in the day since it is mostly exposed to the hot sun. Parking is available behind the restaurant.

We met friends and had a great time.

We absolutely love The Celtic Ray! What a combination: Great food, Guinness is the perfect temp, and a great atmosphere. You couldn’t ask for a better pub!!

Great fish! Not dry. Has a smooth batter. Goes great with tartar and vinegar. The coleslaw is sweet, yummy yummy. French fries seem home cut. seating is wrapped around the bar, not a typical restraunt. It's has cut nooks and crannies for a single person or a couple to squeeze into. Lots of cute pictures, signs, and writing on the walls. Much more seating outside, there are sun covers. Loved the potato and leek soup, very dense like a broccoli and cheese soup. Large potato chunks. Tried a guest beer blueberry wheat flavor, tasted like a dessert, incredible. The Irish soda bread was to die for. Its thick but soft and excellent for dipping. The people running it seemed nice. The only issues we had were they do NOT have sweet tea and they initially forgot our soup. Good service, will come back. Hoping they get a pumch card for those fish and chips haha. We all 3 left very full and waddling.

Went here for their St. Patrick's Day event, my second time. Considering how slammed it was with people, including the street next to it that was closed off, the efficiency of service and quality of product was outstanding. Plenty of places to go for drinks and food, wait time was not that bad for such a large event. The bartenders and food servers were friendly and pretty quick. One price for all drink types made it easier, and besides traditional Irish fair they had food trucks with a variety of other choices.

My wife and I made our first trip to the Celtic Ray a few days ago and the overall experience was top notch! Fantastic atmosphere, super friendly bartenders and the food was outstanding and believe me, we’re pretty tough critics. We had the potato leek soup, fish & chips and Guinness stew. We were greeted at the bar by the owner and had a wonderful conversation, can’t wait to go back!

My Irish eyes are smilin', love this place!! 5 stars all the way. Live music every week with no cover. Check them out, you will not be disappointed! 🍀

Such a great place to go for a snack, drink or meal. Food is always fresh and hot. Staff are super friendly and make you feel at home. Location is excellent with out-door seating plus an out-door stage. There is also seating on the roof top patio. Love the fries and cheese.

Was there for the first time. The two couples we were with have been coming here for about 8 years. Excellent atmosphere. You have to go up to the bar if you're sitting outside to order your food and drink, but the staff is accommodating. I had the Guinness stew with a Strongbow, and the wife had fish and chips. Both were excellent.

This place has 3 separate areas that can be enjoyed; outside with the band, inside and inside original. We had the pleasure of eating inside at a booth in the original portion that reminded us so much of a pub we visited in Galway. Service was awesome! Food was great, albeit a limited menu.
