La Chata Mexican Cuisine.

For the longest time we wanted to tryout this restaurant but didn’t get the chance till tonight. They were short handed and we knew it upon arrival.
Everything was great and we enjoyed our food and dessert.

If you have not had the pleasure of trying the food at La Chata, you are missing out. Normally my go to is the carnitas. However, they recently added birria to the menu and it it definitely a must try. You can get it as a taco or as a platter (Birria de Res). The platter is served with birria in consomme with tortillas, beans, onion, cilantro and lime on the side. The meat is tender and the consomme is flavorful and warming.

We finished off dinner with the sweet corn cake (Torta de Elote). It is served warm with a scoop of ice cream. The cake and ice cream are topped with chocolate sauce and a spicy honey drizzle. It has been some time since I have had a desert so pleasantly hit so many flavor profiles while remaining balanced.

After desert we moved to the bar and enjoyed a pleasant conversation with the owner and some other guests. I asked the owner to suggest a nice sipping tequila and was referred CaliFino Extra Anejo. Once again this tequila hit the spot in ways I didn't know I needed. It was a smooth but full bodied tequila with a woody finish. Well worth the price.

We always enjoy ourselves and each trip we grow a bit fonder. The atmosphere paired with the Friday night piano and the geniune care of the staff make this place truly special. This isn't your local tex mex with bottomless chips, but that gives you the chance to fully enjoy your meal without overeating before you are served.

Its more than just a meal. La Chata is an experience that will leave you wanting to come back for more.

Great quality Mexican restaurant. Unlike so many other "Mexican" restaurants in the St Louis area. The food is very high quality. Very nice dining atmosphere.

My husband and I tried La Chata for the first time and we were very impressed. Service was excellent and the food was great. I love their margaritas! I also really love all of the beautiful plants decorating the restaurant. It feels like you are in an oasis. We will definitely be back.

Authentic Mexican cuisine, not run of the mill Americanified food. Try everything! Special tequila pairing dinners are not to be missed!

Loved finding this gem. If you want a cozy, delicious, high quality food experience with live piano music, this is the place for you! Come take a load off and enjoy this unique high quality Mexican style restaurant. Everything is made from scratch. Don’t expect the greasy fried food you find at so many local restaurants. The price is worth the quality and the love served behind the dishes.

We ate here with my family and cousins since it was my uncle's birthday the next day. The people were friendly and we enjoyed our dinner. I even got to sit with my bestie, Randy, who is 12 years old. Since it's Christmas time, we saw Frosty the snowman on the tv! Who doesn't like Frosty the snowman? There was one minor con, and it was in the bathroom: there were two stalls and one of them was out of order. Other than that, it was a great little place to eat at.

Love this place. There were lots of gluten free choices for my friend. The torta de elote was fantastic. Never had that dessert before. Just the right sweetness. Will be coming here again sooner than later.

Tried somewhere different to us for lunch today and it was amazing! Can't wait to go back to La Chata Mexican Restaurant in Cottleville real soon! Chef and Owner Leticia took great care of us, and Axel too! Unique, top notch, gourmet fresh food...not your average Mexican place(around here). 100+ tequilas and the drinks are as wonderful as the food. Beautiful atmosphere and patio. We've been missing out. She's been here for 26 years(was on K until 5yrs ago)! How did we not know???

Great place for dinner! The staff was very friendly and constantly checked on us. We came right when the man started playing the piano which was a beautiful touch. He then came around to all the tables, taking requests and chatting with the guests. Very wonderful experience and atmosphere. The portions are fairly large and the prices reasonable. Will be returning!

Every weekend, My boyfriend and I either have pizza or Mexican. Tonight was Mexican and we don't normally try new places but we both wanted to try this one. Best decision of our restaurant Mexican food life!!! Staff was very attentive and nice. One of the families owner talked to us about their menu and how fresh it is all made and how they keep it authentic. She was spot on. Our food came quickly and hot. When we got our food and had our first bit, we both looked at each other and knew this was our New weekend Mexican spot! Amazing doesn't even touch how wonderful our experience was! Give them a try. We have been dining here for the past 20 years—including at their former location in O’Fallon. If you want authentic Mexican food, a great atmosphere, and an amazing owner (Leticia), look no further than La Chata. We also love the pianist who takes requests. The margaritas are delicious, too!

The mole was sooo good. It had a great flavor and complimented the chicken very well. Everyone is so nice too. My daughter loved listening to the piano man in the back.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area by far! La Chata is where you go if you want authentic Mexican food. No Tex Mex or chimichangas here! It’s owned and ran by a wonderful Mexican family and the food really shows it. Everything is hand made and delicious. I hear their drinks are good but I’m not a big drinker so can’t confirm that one. They have fancy tequila tasting dinners periodically too if that’s your thing.

This place is amazing! The food is delicious, the staff are friendly and provide excellent service (the man who took us to our table even pulled out my chair for me, and we never had to ask for drink refills, etc), and the interior is beautiful and comfortable. It's well worth the price. I got the Chipotle shrimp, and it was the best Mexican shrimp dish I've ever had. Can't recommend this place enough.

Authentic and delicious. Atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, with a super friendly staff.

This is a great place to experience a real taste of Mexico. Expect to have the owner Leticia stop by your table to check on you. But the food is the star here. I lived most of my life in southern California, so I really know good, authentic Mexican food, and this is that. Treat yourself to something special and very hard to find here in Missouri.

Beyond grateful for The Owner and making the menu over half gluten free as I have Celiac disease and have not been able to have Mexican food for a long long time. They take cross contamination seriously! Thank you so much!

Fantastic, authentic Mexican food and excellent Margaritas. The owner, Letisha has been featured on the television series, "Food is Love." Her tequila tastings are fun and highlight incredible, authentic, Mexican gormet.

True authentic Mexican food! I have had real Mexican food from New Mexico, Texas, and Mexico and La Chata is the most authentic I’ve ever had in the Midwest. My whole family enjoyed it. I love the decor and vibe of the restaurant. I will definitely be spreading news to friends about how good their food is.

I've been back to La Chata many times since my last review and always have a pleasant experience with great conversation, authentic food and top-notch drinks (their margaritas are my favorite in the area).

Tonight, I got to try the featured entree Birria de Res which is beef served in a well-seasoned stew broth, tortillas, beans, cilantro, and lime meant to create your own tacos. The meat was tender and delicious and the beans are the only beans I've ever liked! It was the perfect meal on a cold winter night.

For dessert, my husband and I shared the Torta de Elote which is a warm corn cake topped with spicy honey and dark chocolate and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Dessert is always a favorite of mine. Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the unique combination of sweet and spicy.

To finish off the evening, we moved to the bar where we were able to have a nice conversation with the owner and a couple others dining and tried some new tequila called CaliFino Extra Anejo. The tequila was aromatic and full bodies but surprisingly smooth.

Although La Chata isn't like your typical Mexican restaurants in the area with unlimated chips and salsa, they offer much more in the experience. From the time you walk in the door, you get wonderful service with an at-home feel, like you're part of the family. On Friday nights, they even have a piano player adding a romantic ambiance to the evening. If you have not yet had the pleasure of an evening at La Chata, I would highly recommend making the trip.
