This is our favorite hike in Austin. Don’t miss it!! Our dog’s day is made any time we go (and mine). The trees, sounds, and water make for the perfect place to read a book.

We are careful about when we let him in the water (since never know about algae in Texas!) but on days when it’s rushing, he knows what to do!!

Paid parking zones around the trailhead, however, much safer area to park.

The greenbelt is a little to crowded with Covid because of the young & reckless, but you can maintain your 6 ft distance at least at the upper swimming holes, until the Bros take over late afternoon.

Note: there is absolutely no parking here at this entrance (see pics). Locals who live here have had no parking/tow away signs posted all along the entrance as well as along both sides of the street :/

Greenbelt Entrance - The Hill Of Life. Don't park in front of trail or in front of any houses. YOUR CAR WILL GET TOWED! The parking is on 'Scottish Woods Trail', the main road you turn on off of 360. Rope swing, 2 waterfalls, jogging and bike trail also..

One of my favorite places in Austin. It's not an easy hike though but that's one of the things I love about it.

You can park along the street and pay with a card at the pay station at the trailhead. You do not need to use the app. Parking is fairly expensive; I paid $14.75 for five hours. Note: you pay in advance by the hour, so you have to estimate how long you will be parked, similar to a parking meter.

The Hill of Life is right at the beginning of the trail. Unleashed dogs are common, so if that concerns you, be prepared.

The trail leads you to a beautiful view. However, the path is very rocky. Several of us slipped. That's why I gave it 4 stars out of 5. I would wear really good hiking shoes with a lot of grip. I would probably not go on this trail right after a heavy rain.
